AFTER GM PUT THIS SMALL BLOCK CHEVY INTO PRODUCTION. EVERYBODY IN THE CORPORATE OFFICE WAS RUNNING AROUND SAYING THEY WERE GOING TO KICK FORD'S ASS. ZORA ARKUS DUNTOV WAS HEARING IT EVERYWHERE. SO HE DECIDED TO PAY THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT A VISIT AND WENT UP TO THEIR OFFICES. ZORA SAID THESE EXACT WORDS TO BOTH OF THEM: YOU HAVE A NICE LITTLE MOTOR HERE BUT I WILL TELL YOU ONE THING. HE TOLD THEM: I TOOK A BASE 85HP FLATHEAD FORD AND PUT MY ARDUN HEMI HEADS ON IT AND I MADE CLOSE TO 500HP AND THE LOWER BLOCK TOOK IT LIKE NOTHING. HE THEN TOLD THEM: "DON'T PUSH FORD THEY WILL BURY YOU". IN THE COMING YEARS GM ALONG WITH THE NHRA THEIR HENCHMEN. HAD TO USE RULE BOOKS AND RULES UNWRITTEN TO STOP FORD FROM DOMINATING DRAG RACING.
I absolutely love the new C7 Corvette. But just calling it a Sting Ray does not make it a Sting Ray. The original Sting Ray was a styling design used to rebody the Corvette SS. That design was modified for production Corvettes from 1963 thru 1967. You can put lipstick on a pig, but no matter how pretty it looks, it's still a pig. The C7 is arguably the prettiest Corvette in years (and certainly not a pig) but there will only ever be one body style that is a Sting Ray.
There is the Sting Ray 63-67 Not a C-2 but a MIDYEAR, Then there is the Stingray 69-76 Not a C-3 but a Shark! and last of all the C-7 Great performance, fantastic interior but other than that....the UGLIEST Vette Yet! Can't wait for the great C-8!
