Johnny Mathis is a legend! One of the greats! I love him and my mom loved him! He is still handsome at eighty years old! Also what incredible taste in music he has!
I grew up listening to Johnny's album, "Christmas Eve With Johnny Mathis" (1986) every Christmas on vinyl. His voice....the memories.....

I'm enjoying these Johnny Mathis interviews I'm just now finding. He's such a sweet man. I loved his music since the 50's but never heard him talk until now. What a charming personality he has.
Despite the fact that he's sold dozens of millions of records I feel that his music and voice are very underrated.
You can certainly say that! In fact the man has NEVER really gotten his due. If you listen to all, most of, his music you can EASILY make a case for Johnny being.....the best singer ever, period! A damn nice man too.

Mathis attended the same junior high school and high school that I attended. My string orchestra teacher in junior high was a violist in the Circle Star Theater and every spring, she would take the class on a field trip to the Circle Star to watch Johnny Mathis rehearse. After he finished a set, he would come down to the audience area where we sat and greet us.

Joāo Gilberto means John Gilbert in Portuguese. And in Spanish is Juan Gilberto, not to be confused with the announcer, Johnny Gilbert.

He may have been there replacing cd's lost, when his house recently burned down, or those may be recent cd's, of artists he likes. He has always listened to a lot, of music - not his own!
