    You know what’s crazy? The emperor NEVER entertained Jia’s kids for the throne seriously. He praised them and favored them, but would never seriously consider putting a foreign prince next for the throne. The whole time Jia was playing checkers, the emperor was playing 3D chess. It’s sad, really.

      In this case, the emperor was hurt in a hunting accident. 4th’s easy taming of the horse demonstrates that he probably had enough foresight and knowledge to send the wild horse off along a treacherous path that led to the emperor’s harm. He knew beforehand that the emperor would get hurt and possibly die; he planned it that way. High in favor and poised to inherit the throne, he would have met all of his mother’s aspirations and more.

      Of course many officials had families but they lived outside the palace. And I guess guards also could have sex with prostitutes outside in the city or whatever or they wifes if they had any. But definitely not with any of the women who lived on the palace grounds....
      The main reason for this to ensure children are actually emperors....They didn't have a DNA test back then.

      @electroandcake6658 Před 3 lety +5

      Most of them were from distinguished families....not orphans and certainly had a great reputations or they simply wouldn't not be admitted into a palace. But yeah their life was quite shitty and they had pretty much 0 rights....
      But it was struck not only for the emperor. They had not much more rights even if they lived in normal families.

    • @opheliamaples
      @opheliamaples Před 3 lety +3

      @ embraced chimera. The majority of the women in the imperial harem are daughters of powerful or distinguished families. The emperor doesn't just choose women for lust but mostly for the political and military power they can bring him by forming alliances with their families. All of these women are under pressure to be favoured by the emperor and produce a male heir who will inherit the throne and thus bring greater power and prestige to their clans. Thus so much in-fighting and scheming and also why the emperor is often times reluctant to punish the women from more prominent families unless their crime is very serious and obvious.
      Apart from the advantages their families can bring to the emperor, these poor women only have their sexual allure as a bargaining chip. Women were rarely valued for their minds in those day and ages.
      And most of the men they are exposed to are eunuchs (castrated men). Every man is forbidden to touch the emperor's women for an obvious reason. As for the maids, the higher ranking ones have the protection of their mistresses so they are less likely to be molested by palace men, other than the emperor himself.
      Women of the palace had to go through purity tests as they must be virgins for the emperor, so it's unlikely that any with less than perfect chaste reputations will even be considered. Even the maids are forbidden to be sexually active while serving their ladies. They are usually given a chance to leave the palace to marry once they reach a certain age. Dowries were also provided for them, especially if they have pleased their owners during their time.
      Former palace maids are very coveted as not only do them come with decent dowries, they are also considered "well trained". Mistresses will often times set up marriages for their favoured maids. So working in the palace has its own perks, even if it was risky.
      Human rights, especially women's rights have come a long way since then.

    • @VampireSultana
      @VampireSultana Před 3 lety +41

      Two arrows were fired. But the first one was a bow rigged in a tree to fire when the horse stepped on a rope. That one missed, causing the Emperor and the horse to fall. The second one that hit the Emperor in the leg was shot by Yongcheng, except he shot it perfectly through the bow rigged in the tree, making it look like the arrow came from the same place. Almost immediately after, Yongqi came out and shielded the Emperor from the horse, and after that, Yongcheng came out and shot the horse... but people saw Yongcheng go into the forest directly after the Emperor. So for Yongcheng to get there last to shoot the horse makes no sense. Plus, as they said, he was quiet, and didn’t announce his presence. Either they wanted to kill him, or just injure him so Yongcheng can be the “hero” and be praised that much more and secure his spot as crown prince.

      It was also symbolic for his perceived idea they had a relationship going on. It was meant to de-emasculate Ling Yunche (like, 'your no longer a strong male figure') and to attempted to lessen Ling Yunche's 'attractiveness' to Ruyi. Plus to further promote the Emperor's own Superior masculinity. Despite the fact that he did nothing really to protect Yongji really on the assassination attempt. The Emperor really cannot tolerate any male having any seeming hero stance as he believes it lessens his own.
