Beautiful tele! Also that like button joke got me. 😂
I think you need some more spice
Have you got any plans to do an advanced course? I was looking at your intermediate but I think I'm already familiar with most if not all of the material judging by the descriptions on the site. If not do you have any recommendations? Love the channel!
Fantastic Paul, great work!
This is the musical equivalent of watching Bob Ross paint.
@Czesiek P. y not, cuz u don’t like it?
@Czesiek P. Czesiek isn’t a real word
I love this comparison haha I totally Im with you
@Czesiek P. technically, you are music
@Czesiek P. mfers who don't know what music is telling other people what music is, is my favorite thing on the internet
Sure am glad he got that out of the way!
yeah, such an inspiration :D
I know right! It was so important and very helpful!
Definitely. There are a lot of misconceptions regarding that topic..
@@laurensbronsveld loool
I love yt comments
he is like the bob ross of guitar: speaks softly while doing something beautiful yet complex for the untrained. loved it
Yes i agree a 100% thats exactly what my first thought was ;-)
Except I never hear any happy little accidents from Paul
@@mrrogers1 All the arpegios he does at the end of a demonstration.
Mannnn I’m totally going to jam on this, too chill! 😌🤙🏽
heyyy I love your tutorials!!
“Let’s record it before I forget it” needs to be my mantra.
Jack Black says, "Always be recording!"
I recorded a few things from my first week of making noises that sounded musical. A few years later and I haven't recorded since then. D:
"Play what you just played again!"
Me - o.O let me try and figure it out....
How to be a REAL musician:
- Grab your instrument
- Accidentally play something really cool and original
- You feel uncomfortable sitting so you adjust your sitting posture a little bit
- Forget what you play literally 5 seconds ago
- Shout "What the fuck did I play earlier" at least 15 times
- Put down your instrument and feel unmotivated for 3 hours
- repeat from step 1
Bro, I’m at a point where WHENEVER I get a melodic idea, I immediately record it in my phone’s voice recorder. (Same with any vocal ideas)
Going from "Half-Assed Mediocre Pop-Song" to an Intricate Lofi tune in 5 minutes is surreal. Always a pleasure to see you play
HAMPS
I'm changing classic chords from the tunes that passes on the radio for example to jazzified chords, do it too and you'll progress greatly ! ^^
5 minutes are usually days of working ;)
@Czesiek P. Then what is?
@@24Vahid this but with a bridge section and turn around and it’s called jazz
One of the best lo-fi tracks I've ever heard (and man, have I heard tons of them!) and it feels so effortless to you, building it from the ground up in a matter of minutes and talking at the same time. Absolutely brilliant as always!
He probably already have this prepared before recording the video
@@slightlyaccurate8539
Some would call it practice.
What are some lo fi artists you mean/releases you have?
this was one of the best lo-fi tracks you've ever heard...? :D
Everything is perfect about this video. His playing, the vibe in his room, his guitar, his beard, his hair, and his outfit. This video is sick
Word
Omg Paul, your videos are definitions for “warmth” and “comfort”
so true
@@mschroeckenfuchs nice name bro. For the glory of the Empire...
It's like comfort food for the ears.

I just keep staring at this guitar whenever it appears in a video. What an absolute beauty...
this just sparked a whole new wave of creativity and i cant wait to pick up my guitar after work and try this. thank you so much
I'm the king of LoFi. I'm an amazingly average guitar player from LoPractice, LoMotivation and superb at LoAcheivement 😬
You and I should start a band ! Lol
@@SirLeDoux We practice every February 29th.
That's hitting a bit lo.
😂(😔)
@@ScrapPalletMan Could I also apply? Where do you practice, is it in the Lolands???🎸
That "dim slide trick" has such a George Harrison feel to it. Love it!
That trick is in The Beatles - Michelle.
Now try moving a major IV to a minor iv before going back to the I. In every Beatles song.
3:45 These are the little details in your video editing that often go unnoticed but this is what we love about you Paul! You're the best (nacho libre voice)
his eyes are number one
I watch A LOT of guitar videos. And this was absolutely one of the best I've ever watched and you accomplished that in just about 5 minutes! The build up as you demonstrated your graduated evolution from those first 4 chords to its final arrangement was so insightful and inspiring. Wow. This video was a remarkably convincing endorsement of your guitar courses. Nicely played.
Paul really isn't just a musician doing CZcams, but an absolute professional in what he does. I'm always impressed how well thought out and cohesive the clips are overall, not to mention the butter smooth palying ofc.
Soon we’ll be having 24/7 Paul David’s Chill beats.
id pay for that
It's wonderful that you show in a gradual manner how these chords are built. Thank you for sharing
Man, I am jealous at first but then I am brutally humbled. Not only do you lay everything down in such a mindblowingly-simple(?) way- any player who's worth their chops will quickly recognize that this man is an exceptional player. Not to mention explaining everything as if his hands just literally have a mind of their own and he's just narrating what he's seeing them do.... wow
Hearing the first 4 chords reminded me of Ed Sheeran's i see fire.
Paul: "alright this sounds like a half assed pop song, right?"
...made me laugh 😂
Ehh i see fire has a nice acoustic riff
Works well for whar the song is
@@onurag7176 agree. Pauls comment just hit me unexpected 😂
Great comment! ...made me laugh 😂
I think Sheerans gift is for lyrics. Writing 4 chord loops of mostly cowboy chords isn't exactly art.
@@williamhogge5549 his writing influence came from rap / hip hop that's why he's able to story tell the lyrics in unique way
This underlines the fact that Paul is one of the most relatable guitar tutors out there. In a mere 5 minutes he shows how a simple progression can be turned into an extremely tasteful, interesting and fulfilling structure. Thanks again Paul 🙏.
I feel like this is an exception to his usual videos. More often then not, he only starts answering the question ~40% of the way through the video, the beginning is mostly padding. I really like what he teaches though, which is why I keep coming back, but the pacing always bothers me.
The key trick is to know and figure which parts of what chords would lead to the next one. Other than that just spice it up to our taste and you'll end up with something tasteful enough. I think what Paul actually adds to all these is his great presentation that's easy to wrap your head around.
I can do the same thing in 45 seconds.
Thanks for explaining what we just watched.... I don't know why Paul decided to speak Chinese in this video.. 😄
Yep, practice is key. That’s sort of a given. I just re-read my observation, just to make sure I hadn’t written- “Watch this video. In five minutes you’ll learn how to play the guitar”. And I didn’t. Phew! Oh well, I’m off to have a little nap. Maybe I’ll have a science based dream, and wake up and immediately know how to split the atom….
Seriously one of your best videos yet! Not only is this a great lo-fi tutorial, but also a fantastic guide on how to incorporate jazz concepts and melodies into your chord progressions. Bravo!
I am in love with this!!!!
Makes a joke about hitting the like button while jamming, legendary.
My doctor just prescribed a 90 minute full length Paul Davids lofi album to reduce my blood pressure.
Thank you for blessing my ears
Right when I was stuck, this came out. I've been jamming to this for hours.
I like this step wise approach a lot. It gives me motivation to sit down and learn new things step by step. Each step feels like an accomplishment and motivates me to keep going on.
The most soothing voice on youtube
Incredible. Thanks for that.
It's missing one thing:
The Zelda Ocrarina theme melody played in octaves on piano.
Hey! L-L-Listen!
"Just as gentle as you are about to hit that like button" 😂 well I did hit it very gently lol
Always a treat Paul
I love this kind of lessons
I am a Korean fan and I admire your guitar skills every day.
Is the first circle in the characters of your online name fill ins for vowel that comes after it?
@@stalwartnerd hello! Linguist here. Korean uses the ㅇglyph for two things.
1. At the end of words for the 'ng' sound. At at the beginning of words with vowels as a silent, vowel placement holder :)
This makes so much sense, thankyou so much I'm gonna learn every cord that goes together from now on, to play this with anything
Man, gorgeus. Absolutely awesome.
Loved it!! 😍
Dude, this is magic! The filmed sequence itself is so clean! And hearing the music evolve so quickly, but so smooth and satisfyingly. Damn.
This popped up at the perfect time. I was trying to write something Lofi and was stuck!

I love these "how to play (insert genre) videos.... They're really amazing and helpful
He makes it so effortless
I need this on my Spotify playlist!! It’s amazing
I love how the vibe of the presentation and the vibe of the song itself are the same, what a lovely video!
I’m at a loss for words. This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard
Beautiful!
Beautiful.
I’ve been playing for over 15 years and I’m a capable guitarist, but... this progression, especially combined with the melody, has really challenged me. I’m curious to see how long it takes me to really get comfortable playing it so that it gets the calm, relaxed feel it needs.
Very nice demonstration, David, and such a great example of how much skill it takes to play the way you do.
It's not just the music, it's the way the video is created, it's just so darn brilliant!
These are the videos that remind me why I love guitar
This is one of the best guitar videos, no one of the best videos on youtube imo
Man that was such a smooth "Just as gentle as you're about to hit that like button" that I had to go ahead and gently hit that like button. Thanks Paul, you're an amazing teacher.
Incredible! And it was cool the way you taught us
this is a super cool lesson !!!! thank you for sharing !
Amazing lesson
I absolutely love these style of videos!!!! It’s crazy how you never miss a beat the whole time!!!! Craazzy!!!! Keep it up!!!! 🙏🙏🙏 I was vibing the whole time!!! 👌👌🤘🤘
most enigmatic beginning. Who is that on vocals? Sounds like something Mary Spender would do.
Absolute brilliant 👌👌
So lovely smooth !
An absolute masterpiece! The tone, the melody, the backing vocals, all incredible!
I love the "in a few simple steps" videos, cause i can really apply those tips on my daily playing. Paul, your videos are sooo enjoyable, i look forward to watching them every time!
Thanks Bro for your time, been learning for couple of years now
I only discovered this video the other day, and i've already watched it over and over. Absolutely love this track, but that melody is something special. Love your work as always Paul.
"Yeah Paul, it would be great if I was capable of playing the chords and Melody at the same time"
...as I watch and listen in amazement.
It’s awesome how he’s able to speak and hold a conversation with the viewers while playing without error. When I try to talk and play something for someone my face contorts and my eyes get wide lmao
truly lovely!
Honestly one of the best videos I've ever seen
This was incredible Paul! Currently learning with you on your next level playing course. Hopefully I’d be able to come a little closer to this after I finish the course!
I tried to open the course link but its not loading at all ... and i really would need ur advice about it ... is it a useful course because i play guitar and i can play something like this but if i heard it or read it but i can't jam or create something like this ... so it will really help me understanding how the whole process works the odds that i have in chords and etc .. so tell me .. am i going to find what im seeking for ??
This was awesome! The final product was downright beautiful, and seeing the process really helped me wrap my head around what was going on. Such an amazing musician AND teacher. I think I'm gonna buy your intermediate course.
honestly tho. Everyone makes guitar courses but i feel like Pauls would be one of the only actually useful ones. At least for me, his teaching style is so damn effective plus he makes really good stuff that you always want to learn when you hear it
Brilliant piece my friend
Beautiful guitar
I didn't know I needed this
Damn that thinline tele looks and sounds gorgeous!!! I've got a candy apple red thinline that I use for a lot of my uploads on YT, it's such a versatile guitar!!
Great melody, thanx, köszi :)

I love that you’re slinging the thinline tele!

"in a few simple steps" said Paul. Darn, you talented liar!
I don't know why, I've seen you play a lot, but I was surprised how easy you made this look and how clean it was. Then describing what you're doing as you're playing. You're incredible.
You made my day. I m so happy to hear this. Thank u man.
All you need is vinyl cracking in the background and you have lo-fi
Yea sure 👍🔥
some real "Draw the rest of the Owl going on here"
No :P
Seventh chords, chord extensions and chord melody! You can learn these more thoroughly in your own time but he says what you have to do.
Man, you are brilliant! Thanks a lot!
I’m supposed to sleep but watching this makes me emotional, I think I can break this down on my jazz guitar but I know I have a lot of work to do to play it beautifully.
I have my guitar since years, I consider myself more like a beat maker, but this last weeks I had spent most of my free time just playing around the guitar more than ever and I see a lot of doors opening and just waiting to be explored.
For sure I going to play around this tomorrow, but I think I might need to schedule things and be consistent.
Thanks for the supply of highly motivating content
This is what the electric guitar was really made for, just pure euphoria In the form of funky chords and hypnotising melodies.
Let me guess, you're watching kazuki lately as well😉
Thank you, Paul! Great video, again!! 🤟
not only is it super informative, the softness of his voice and the chillness of the chords make it just a nice video to have running in the background to set the mood, not necessarily having to pay attention to the words just have it to vibe or chill. Thanks for this amazing video 🙏
I’d like to know more about those drop 2 chords. Any lesson on that? Can’t find one. Thanks
So do I! Paul please make us some tutorials.
CZcamsr Jens Larsen has a video on it, as well as (where I learned it from) 8bitmusictheory, in which was called “dropping the 2 and the 4.” With orchestral pieces especially it can be used to create more open voices with formerly more closed voiced chords (which can can more clustered/muddy when strings play them).
Essentially, a “drop 2 voicing” as far as my understanding is, “dropping” the second highest note in the chord an octave, creating a different unique sound
A simple concept, but it allows for some variety which is always nice
But I could be wrong and maybe Paul has a different understanding of the concept !
Drop 2 chords are just your basic barre chords for the most part.
The Obi-Wan of the guitar.

Fantastic! Thanks man
I really appreciate that start
