I think the 'UK Prime Minister speaking with an American accent' is a joke on the fact that most Japanese people think English and American accents are similar. So many people presume I'm from America until I tell them I'm actually from England. Then they presume you're from London and then you disappoint them when you aren't, then you have to awkwardly explain where you're actually from and that England is not just London... then we talk about Harry Potter or Fish and Chips and then, that's kind of it...

I love how this movie calls out how having a Kenny in a monster flick movie is annoyingly cliche.
This movie used so much stock footage from "The X From Outer Space", they actually credited the guy who played Guilala in the original as well (who never got credit then). The actor playing Guilala in the new footage is Ryu Hariken, who played King Ghidorah in 1991, the Battra Larva, Baby Godzilla, the Kusamo God in "Yamato Takeru", Godzilla Jr., and Godzilla himself in some live shows.

Oh Christ.. the calamari wrestler. Our daughter came home after weeks at Japanese Language immersion camp and made us both watch this. Christ this movie reminds me of when she was but a tween.

They are both overrated and shitty. Shit like Sharknado was done LONG before it came out and far better. It just introduced a wider audience to tongue in cheek movies but missed the point in multiple ways and gave dumb people the idea that they were in on a joke that they really weren't. Then again here in America most movies are made by dumb people for dumb people.
Except this is 1000000% better than Sharknado.

The wired thing is, they used a form of the sinkhole plan in the recent animated Godzilla films. And they actually worked...kind of.
Freaky Japanese movie weirdness aside. Any film company in posesson of its own library of kaiju stock footage gets at least one of these 👍 from me.

I remember seeing this at G Fest when it first came out 10 years ago. I laughed my ass off and always cherished the memory. THEN years later (about a week ago, actually), I decided to buy the movie off Amazon and show my father, hoping to relive the fantastic comedy experience I remember form so long ago...
We turned it off less than 20 minutes in. I didn't take into account that I was 13 when I saw this, and am now 23 and my sense of humor has changed. It's not a terrible movie, but its very childish, and having the read the jokes rather than hearing them made my father unable to properly enjoy a lot of the humor. :(
Wait a sec, they said that the missile was gonna make Guilala's body parts turn into millions of Guilala's.... and then Take-Majin cut off his head. Wouldn't the body just regrow it's head and then the head would also just become another Guilala? I mean, better than millions of them, but still.

I had only the Japanese version on dvd so I had to read subtitles off my computer while I watched it.
They didn't dub the English speaking people though and I wish they hired me as the British ambassador instead as they used an American guy for it, who didn't even try to do an accent.

'Course I know who Beat Takeshi is. I'm a Yakuza series fan, so I looked him up.
But where I best know him from is his game-show, "Takeshi's Castle." Which was used to create MXC: The Most Extreme Elimination Challenge.
And several Ultraman kaiju once participated there.
Living in Japan is amazing at first, then charming, then interesting, then bearable, then barely tolerable, then it just fucking sucks.
Still a more serious film than Godzilla's Revenge.
Funny how they show Sarcozy as a charming wine-drinking frenchie when he was actually known for disliking alcohol.

That idea has been around in Japanese monster movies long before this, most notably "The War of the Gargantuas" in 1966.

This reminds me of every Voltron episode I ever saw as a kid. Voltron almost gets his ass kicked and then, Oh yeah, I got a big ass sword that defeats the monster every time.

I've seen this sort of "odd"; acting by English speakers in Japanese movies enough to have a theory. I think the Japanese filmmakers deliberately have the foreign actors over-enunciate.
Most Japanese people sort of know English, but not well enough to follow English dialogue in a Western movie. So the actors are speaking like people in a foreign language instruction video, very slowly and clearly. Come to think of it I bet some of these actors' day jobs are doing that kind of acting/instructing.
Japanese filmmakers (well, at least Toho in the 90s did) will pull in Caucasians off the street because the Japanese can't tell the different between proper English acting and their usual non-acting.

In fact, I am the longest riegning Archchancellor of UU in history because I take such precautions. ;)

What's funny is that the G8 Summit plot doesn't even have anything to do with defeating Guilala. The reporters doing the ceremony and calling that local god to fight Guilala could easily have been told without even a scene in the G8 Summit.
But then we'd lose most of the comedy.

Oh it's that thing from the Ladders commercial. But seriously the first movie has one of the quirkiest intro song in any kaiju movie, especially with almost every kaiju movie taking up orchestral scores.
