@@regina6827 Thanks! I do enjoy teaching, for sure. Please download the newest version of the PDF. Based on another CZcamsr's comments, we made the minor (red) circle easier to read without any required knowledge of the structure of minor scales.

As a beginner, I found no better easier method of constructing all 12 Major and 12 Minor Keys than just counting 7 semitones to the right for Major, 3 semitones to left for Relative Minors.
It is, by far, the simplest method for beginners who do not play piano or have ever even heard of perfect fourths, fifths, etc.
From this simple method, using my musical alphabet, I can construct this diagram in less than 60 secs and I literally know nothing about music theory at all.

The Pythagorean Circle was the grandaddy of the Circle of Fifths.
So... what do I need to know this? I just grab a music sheet and look at the key signature and play. Not sure why do I need to know what the circle works. Unless, you want to compose and learn chords.

@@LearnPianoLive, Excuse for the late response, but now we see that same thing. It's at the beginning, 0:11, on your circle and clearer when the title has shifted up at 0:16.
E -4#-Dm, related in one direction.
Then B-5#-Am; F#/Gb-6#/6b-Em; and Db-5b-Bm. Wouldn't we all exspect these minors were a halftone down. Perhaps you showed an older version of the circle? It's a great thing. But this picture could be a bit disturbing for those who are not yet as sure as you are. Thanks a lot!

@@keescanalfp5143 I agree with this one - that red circle should be able to spin freely. The new download makes that possible, and I'm redo-ing the last bit of the video that explicitly uses the red circle. I also have added a band instrument circle and a guitarists' capo circle around the outsides. This thing is becoming a monster :) But all great suggestions from viewers like you. Thanks for the input!
@@keescanalfp5143 This one is actually just a list of the relative minors of each of the keys. This is legit. The key signature for F and Dm, for example, are the same: 1 flat. The red circle that you pointed to later in the video is still confusing, though. Hopefully shoring that up will help beginners.

Thanks for your explanations of that magic circle. Could you please just make clear one point on the red minor circle you add at 18:17? It shows the case of F minor. We understand the 1, 4 & 5, also the G diminished and E diminished on 2 and 7. What shall we do with D and A major at 6 and 3? Or are they meant to point the spots of B minor and F# minor. Wouldn't you expect it pointed at Db and Ab, or is that wrong in the case of F minor? Thanks for all the rest. So helpful!!
The 3, the 6 and the 7 are all lowered in a minor key, so yes - great catch - those numbers would be flat. We teach that separately in a the scale lessons at the site, but I can see how, out of context, this just looks misleading. I really appreciate the feedback!! I've actually restructured that part of the circle based on your comment. If you download the new version of the printable PDF at the site, it will include the 3, 6, and 7 already lowered, ready to use right out of the gate. Thanks again! We keep getting better, clearer, and more accessible each day thanks to students like you. I'll be chopping off the end of this video and re-recording that segment of the explanation.

Why would I care how many keys are flat or sharp? What am I not getting?
Perfect question! Short answer is: You don't. Until you do. And then you care very much. If you haven't run into that problem yet, no worries. Just know that the resource is there, and someday when you're trying to figure out how some chord/song/note/scale/key relates to some other one, you'll remember that one dude from CZcams had some circle doohicky that he said would help organize almost anything in music. Pretty sure if you type "music theory ci" into Google (or Smoogle or whatever it is in the future...if you think "music theory ci" with your brain implant), autocomplete will take you where you want to go.
Here is an example, though: You're playing a wedding reception gig and the mother of the bride brings you some sheet music that wasn't on their playlist and says "This is a song the groom wrote for the bride as a surprise - can you play it when they come in? He'll come over and sing along. Don't worry - it's okay if it's not perfect." Now, because you've gotten the vibe from her husband when he handed you your check that they think the going rate for a pianist is too high, and because you know she's not going to accept a gracious "No" anyway, you say "Sure" and pray it's an easy piece of music to read, even though you know her definition of "not perfect" is a world apart from the train wreck your sphincters already seem to be predicting.
At the beginning of the song, you see 5 flat signs, meaning that 5 notes in the song you're supposed to play flat and never natural. This song is going to be beast, but you're determined to do your best. Hoping you can practice a few times before the new couple arrives, you start by looking at the first notes, and as you feel the AC find the the beads of sweat forming around your hairline, the mother whisper-yells in your direction, "Here they come!" And with her eyes wide and circling her index finger in the air, she mouths the words, "Go. Go. Go." Those 5 stupid flat signs are going to wreck your Yelp reviews. At that point, it would take a huge load off to know that the 5 flats are B, E, A, D, and G, and that furthermore, it just means that you're in the key of Db, so you can just put yourself in the mindset of Db and not worry about any of the flats.
Here's another: You want to learn to play "Mad World" and Ultimate Guitar says it's supposed to be in Ab, but you guess that's going to mean a lot of black notes. But since you want to sing along, you need to keep it close to the original key. Should you take it up to A or down to G? You could just spend the time to learn it in both keys and then decide, but that seems like a waste of time. If you know how many keys are flat or sharp, you're gonna take it down to G, because G only has 1 sharp. A has 3!
You can do all that without the circle of fifths, though. Just like you can do chemistry without the periodic table of elements. But if you DO have that resource at your disposal, it's all going to make a lot more sense, be easier to relate it to other things in your experience, and make you all-around more proficient at your craft.

I saw in your the Circle of Fifths that you talked about. you wrote C is the relationship to Am,G-Em,D-Bm,A-F#m so all these I understood, but all these E-Dm? B-Am? Gb/F#-Em? Db_Bm? I don't understand. would you check in your video youtube? you will see what I talked about.
Yeah - I don't know - that sounds crazy...from what you're saying, they all sound exactly one half step off...at which point in the 22 minute video did I say that?

I'm sure you know this subject very well, however possibly, you drank too much coffee before starting this? It seemed like you were speeding up as you went along and @ around 12:00 my brain left the track. IMHO, it's also distracting when having yourself in the video. It can be entertaining, but distracts from concentrating on the subject mater. Hope that helps.
