Great job 👏
This here is a very well organized and amazing contextual tutorial, lets you see those concepts at work . Bravo . Wish for more like this in the future . Thank you
Fabulous - very useful - especially as I play harmonica and baritone ukulele...
"Für Elise" has lyrics!? ...and parts!?
re traditional way - I think when you are teaching kids - all white keys are easier way for them to play and understand to start with, but also great for the ear, so it's not just one diatonic scale, and then you can swing all those scales too which is great for the feel, so I guess it's done for different purposes and can be used as such :) but super interesting material and perspective so far, thank you!
Also, it's good to see where it is in relation to the simplest piano structure so that you can make a formula based on that for each key you are working in, no?
Amazing! Thank you so much for creating one of the best videos about modes.
Hi, I saw your video on CZcams and thought your explanation was great. My product is an Removable Silicone Piano Keyboard Note Labels for Beginners and Kids. If possible, I hope we can have a pleasant cooperation. Looking forward to your reply.
This video was posted 5years ago and I am just getting to understand modes and it application after stumbling on several materials. You are the Best. Thank you.
it doesn't begin and end in the context you are describing... the SONG begins on a certain mode... so if a song that is in the key of C Major... begins and ends on F, Lydian mode... or any other mode, then that's why. it's because though it is in C, it starts and ends on a different mode... so It can seem like it is not in the key of C.
I stand in awe! Wonderful, thank you so much!
Great Stuff, Thank You
I love your method. you are a great teacher, so detail, sing node by node that is the key. Thank you so much.
Love ❤❤ sunflower
Where can I get the music sheet for this interpretation of the song?
You hit on one of my many major "flaws" in the "overestimating ability" section. I know some of the theory but I suppose I did not stick/have not stuck with lessons long enough for chords to be taught, so I see notes, not chords! ha I am trying to learn quick but comfortable hand placement via simple lead sheets. I may not be a good self-teacher!! ha Any comments/suggestions? I enjoyed this lesson for the psychological help.
looks like you had an awesome night.... im gutted to miss but i got a flue that's hit me really hard but hope to be back for next lesson. you really amazing work.
This is great. Definitely love the personality
So glad!
You should do stand up! I finally kinda get these modes, thanks to your humorous delivery . A marvel 🤣🎹👏🏽
I appreciate that!
I was getting ready to call it a day then saw LearnPianoLive new video - I'll be up another hour! Love everything about this channel
Awesome! Go get it!
Just found this video. Thank you for a great lesson. I think I can play it now with a lot of practice.
Wonderful!
Great lesson. Loved it. Thank you so much!
So glad!
Super workshop! All in one place to review. Thanks 🙏 😊😊
So nice of you
Is this a young person thing? This having annoying, distracting music going on behind what the teacher is saying? Imagine in a classroom, a teacher explaining a concept to the kids while obtrusive music is being played at the same time. Crazy!
Interesting. Can you give me a timestamp?
I'm gon' be sad... 5pm isn't a good time! Ya gotta search "Bohemian Catsody" (without the quotes) here on CZcams!
Awww...we miss you!! Hopefully our schedules will line up again soon!
Excellent pegadogy 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you!
Hilarious and super helpful video
Glad you enjoyed it
Eric Weinstein is quite right, but he is doing exactly what he says people who want to make money out of a skill do. Listen to the language; "For every subject that can systematised, there is a systematisation that allows you to get...," "You have to prove that you have the super-power to DISINTERMEDIATE..." He is doing EXACTLY what he (quite rightly) accuses music (and other) teachers of doing. Using a lot of words to express a very simple concept in order to demonstrate that he has intellectual "super powers" that you don't. A truly hateful and arrogant man.
Fantastic. I decided 25 years ago to abandon my classical training and learn all my songs by ear. Now, I revisiting what I knew. This tutorial is amazing! Great job. You removed the cobwebs. Why don't you have 1M views?
Lol. Thanks. Feel free to help get me there :)
sweet fiddle!
Thanks
Word association: I Don’t Play Like My Aunt Lucy.
Already knew most of the things in the video but watched till the end because this is legit the best tutorial on reharmonization, well done
Aw shucks. Glad you liked it. Thanks
I’m here because your interview with Harmonic Atheist, and maybe learn some piano.
Awesome! Welcome :)
61 keys last high c leger lines are missing does not follow the B leger lines the note drops down, also tiny 8 next to it???
I'm not entirely sure about your comment - is this a question, clarification, complaint, correction...?
Do you have a video on how to apply these in progressions or using specific scales to target specific chords, something to complement arpeggiating chords ?
I'm not entirely sure I understand the question. Are you asking which mode to use with each chord type? Like mixolydian for dominant 9...and stuff like that?
What is the brand of your piano?
Currently, I'm on a Young Chang
I totally agree with you. learning the modes as a relative of the major is confusing. For me all the modes, are variant minor scales with exception of mixolydian (diminished major) and lydian (augmented major). Great presentation!
Thanks so much!
Es tan hermoso ❤
I became an adult student at 45, this video helps me understand my teacher pain haha. I have a great teacher and I am super committed to the long haul. I amnlucky to have found the teacher I did she is very patient!
That's so great!
So true. Traditional education especially stifles the pace of learning anything quickly.
Sounds like someone who did not go to school and feels inferior would say.
First :p
How do I build chord progressions out of modes? How do I know if a flat six will be minor or major ? 😳
I would just go every other note within the scale/mode, until you have a 3-note chord ("triad") and that way you know the chord will fit with the mode/scale/key
Can I ask... How can I take a set full of song/chord charts for a small pub gig... and use this technique only every once in a while on some songs? What would be the first things you would try that would not be deemed too jazzy for the gig... but maybe like The Beatles... who did some great moves.
Adding 7's to minor chords is pretty safe. Preceding chords by their 2-5 is also pretty popularly palatable.
You sound DISRESPECTFUL and UNCUTH ! You might know music theory but you are NOT A GOOD or RESPECTFUL MUSIC TEACHER! THE MODES HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR CENTURIES AND ARE THE BASICS FOR SOME VERY BEAUTIFUL AND EXCELLENT PIECES! May I " RESPECTFULLY " suggest you " get some CLASS" and don't be SO VULGAR AND SO OFFENSIVE!
Where does the sheet music come from? Can you download from your site?
Yep. I create them custom for each lesson.
Great info here! How might I harness this to use very sparingly for pop writing...or for adding just a sprinkle when needed playing songs?
Same way as if you're wanting master them all - take a single concept and over-apply it, everywhere you can, until it starts to leak into your everyday playing. Then you're ready for concept 2...rinse and repeat
Super
Thanks
Being in a small town with very limited teachers can be a problem. Don’t be afraid to change if the teacher is ineffective. The teacher I had didn’t really have a plan except to try a slightly harder piece each week. Never really finished anything. Never really spent any time on counting or any theory. I had trouble memorizing songs. She said it was because I was old. She was late 70s. I was 53. The final straw was when she admitted she never expected adults to succeed just entertain themselves.
Oof. That's rough. I'm sorry. Hobby teachers with low requirements can be great. Low expectations is another story. Teacher and student have to be unified on what the goals are.
what about the rest of the song
That was all that was requested. They just needed the solo for the production
@@LearnPianoLive oh ok! Tysm anyway
👍 👍 👍
I wish I could play piano like that
I happen to think you can. If you had the exact number of hours of practice I did, I think you'd be nearly exactly as good.
