  • Bought a ST-62 Strat from Thomann, great budget guitar if you can do the needed setups and maybe prepare to change some parts.

    Tip for removing knobs: Use two spoons, much easier. And if you want to protect the pickguard put some paper towel under the spoon.

    You struggling to remove the tight knobs made me smile. If you really had to be careful to not damage a finish (or not mash up the control knob) you probably know to work some cloth underneath the knob, wrap it, and pull up, this pulls the knob off square to the pot shaft painlessly. Great videos, very clear. Thanks.

    First of all congrats for this upload man. I have heard so many great things about harley benton guitars, but this video is for all these people that never plays this kind of cheap guitars. You set up well, and you have a good instrument. Maybe pots and pickups, tuners, etc, they aren't the best in the market. But as far as I saw, it holds tune in a normal way. And the most important thing: you play soo good my friend, that solo is soo tasty. Congrats again!!!! (and enjoy that wonderful guitar)

    I have the same guitar. It came perfectly set up out of the box. Not a single flaw. Unfortunately, after two months, one of the tuning posts started to come out, and fret buzz appeared at the 7th and 8th fret when bending strings. The guitar is still pretty much playable, and holds tune literally for days, but it sucks to have issues with a new guitar after only a couple of months. You get what you pay for, I guess.

    • @jukka9333
      @jukka9333  Před 2 lety +7

      A wooden instrument changes, so it would probably be time to check the neck relief and high frets. There are lots of videos on CZcams, where it is shown how to do the basic setup work with no or very little special tools, this should not be too hard to fix.

      The "vintage" staggered poles on the pick-ups are nonsense. They were designed this way to compensate for the thinner core of a wound G string and a much thicker plain B string which were the norm in the 50s to 60s (Strat's came with 13, 17, 28w, 34w, 46w, 55w). Using modern 9s or 10s on them creates a balance problem with a loud G and faint B strings no matter how the pick-ups are adjusted.

    • @jukka9333

      @@Leo_ofRedKeep So should we favor the un-staggered pickups these days?

    • @Leo_ofRedKeep
      @Leo_ofRedKeep Před 2 lety +2

      @@jukka9333 It depends on the strings you use. But yes, if you play light strings with a plain G, un-staggered is the better choice. In some pick-ups, the pole pieces can be pushed back down but those in the Roswell have different lengths and cannot move.
