Being born in 1979, the mid-90's period forms the hub of my teenage years. I remember it all. Some bad bands. Some good bands. Some great bands. A ton of music publications to read. It was an awesome time to grow up in.

Agree Jack - I was a bit older and have really enjoyed going back to this time again - a lot of sore heads and fuzzy good memories! Great times and with Oasis back we may get some new memories! @@gavaxemanspins Can't wait to see what you have for us. New subscriber, BTW. I found myself nodding in agreement with the vast majority of your choices, and the reasons for why you chose them. That '94 to '96 era was indeed a special time but I do kind of feel sorry for the great many bands that were snapped up by the major labels during that time, in the hope of piggybacking on the Britpop hype, only to later find themselves dropped or just plain neglected by their label once the bubble burst in '97 and beyond. But that brief period was just the best for an indie kid like me. Have a great one.

For real Definitely Maybe and the singles are the best of Oasis, the best sound and the more real stuff, What´s the Story was made for america, is less britpop, it´s heavily influenced by REM and america, and heavily produced, some stuff like some might say and roll with it still sound very britpop, but the ballads and anthems even when are good, are a departure from the britpop sound from the early 90s

I used to love britpop but I can't hardly listen to it anymore. I was a hugh Blur fan and have listened to Parklife a million times. Too many times and today, if I must listen to a Blur britpop album I find The Great Escape more interesting. Modern Life is Rubbish I don't listen to anymore but For Tomorrow is their best song by far. Still love that tune. Best album from that era, and one of the few I still put on from time to time, is Different Class. For me Pulp won the battle of Britain. His and Hers is great too.

Fantastic video, Gav! I’m not a massive Britpop fan… however, I’m a massive fan of select albums. Totally agree with what you were saying about Parklife. Modern Life is Rubbish is definitely the Blur album for me. His n Hers is great 👌Definitely Maybe easily the best Oasis. Great to see you show Dodgy… fantastically underrated band. The Second Coming is the only album I’ve ever queued for. Also agree on The Bends… their best album. Difficult to find a more instantly likeable album than I Should Coco. Grand Prix… what a time to be alive! Indie discos were brilliant at that time and like you said brit pop was mixed with everything from mod pop, classic rock, psych, soul… great days. Expecting To Fly was top notch too. Their guitar player was brilliant. Really enjoyed that, Gav. A trip down memory lane really. One of my good pals played in Whiteout if you remember them? Late to the party on this vid. Absolutely brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyed.
Was aged 16-18 during this period and was in 'the thick of it'. Despite my music taste at that age which was the prog I still listen to now, I was hanging around in alternative music group and many mates listened to this stuff regularly. I was at all of those clubs, easy to get in under the age of 18 back then - Hoffmeister or 4X for £1.20 per pint, lovely!
Some excellent choices here, pretty much a who's who of it all. Good to see they've all been re-issued and have some demand still.

Thanks for making this. I'm an American in my 20s but have always loved Britpop, one of my favorite ever music scenes. Blur are easily my favorite of those bands.
I've never really understood the term "Britpop" since all of the bands that got labeled with it are unambiguously rock bands, not pop bands. I also feel like it doesn't fit as a genre label since a lot of the bands don't really have that much in common musically. For example Pulp and Suede are a lot more glam rock than Oasis and Blur in my opinion. But as an American I'm sure there's a lot about Britpop that flies over my head.
