      @bluwusky5167 Před 4 lety +2

      @@alfiew80 Yeah, UK scrapyards are no good for proper exploring. At my local, there were six cars the last time I visited, in two stacks. They were a Land Rover Discovery Commercial which had clearly been crashed; a Peugeot 205 van covered in moss; an immaculate 2007 Ford Fiesta; a rusted-out VW New Beetle; the bare shell of a Ford Mondeo ST; and another Mondeo being brought in when I arrived. Then again, I picked up some parts from a larger yard in Crewe a few months ago, and they had a massive pile of 90s hatchbacks, then a sprawl of parts ranging from the whole interior of a Daewoo Kalos to the shell of an MG Midget. The problem is that you can't just pull bits off yourself anymore, they do all the work and then sell the bits.

I was alone with a 3.8" ratchet kit and a vacuum cleaner pipe which doubles as a pry bar and power bar. It rained a bit I just lay under the car and undid everything there while layin on an old door card. 4 hours later I had it out and $100 later it was in the boot of my car. It was a well spent day! Celebrated with a beer when riding and driving was done for the day. Today I finished getting the junkyard box in. My car drives fantastic! I did pull the junkyard box apart, cleaned and checked it was good first.

    I literally pulled a ton of parts off of American Phil in the video. I snagged a black soft top, ECU, seat brackets, cluster cover, and also brought home an interesting find from in that very same car. Under the seats was what looked like a flashlight with a case. I pulled it out and it was one of those collapsible bang sticks cops use to beat on criminals. The junkyard just gave it to me and I spent under $100 for everything I needed. Email me at brandenprato@gmail.com if you want pictures. The guts from American Phil got my project mx5 running and it will be for sale before too long.

    • @DozIT
      @DozIT Před 6 lety

      Not true at all, North Americans have it lucky when it comes to cars. Look at Singapore, or Japan. The only thing you might have a point about is emissions testing. Hey a $500 sensor has malfunctioned on your $1000 car, so instead of fixing you scrap it and let all the hazardous chemicals go into the environment, and go out and buy another car. Makes a lot of sense.

    • @man_on_wheelz
      @man_on_wheelz Před 6 lety +2

      Well, I'm not sure how it's done elsewhere, but here in Chicago if the police seizes your car, there's an impound here it gets taken to and you can pay a fee or whatever to get it out. I once had to do totally unrelated work near the railroad behind the impound and as a car guy, I saw things that nearly made me cry. Cars, nice cars, being placed entirely too close to one another, the cars being moved around by a giant forklift with no protection underneath, car alarms going off as the car is being hauled from one end to another... and to think these cars are intended to be returned to their owners?!?!

    • @DozIT
      @DozIT Před 6 lety +2

      That is true, but to have a car impounded you have to do something stupid, they don't just come up and impound your car for no reason. DUI, stunt driving, criminal investigation, etc. and that happens everywhere not just in the US. Same idea with repossessions, if you don't pay for your car, the bank will take it from you -- simple as that.
