Despite the fact I'm vehemently anti communist, Soviet history is perhaps even more fascinating to me than all others during the 20th century. In particular I'm obsessed with how the government operated and the day-to-day routine of subjects across the Soviet Empire. I can't stand brutism in the United States but Soviet architecture also fascinates me by how utilitarian it is

Lenin was three=eigths Kalmyk by descent. Descended from from members of this people who had married Russian senior military officers who had been sent to govern their region. The kalmyks were not Mongols, but they were linguistically and culturally related to them.
One token of his partially East Asian ancestry was his eye-folds, like East Asians. The leftist American journalist John Reed descibes Lenin as have "winking eyes" when he addressed the crowds in Petrograd. But Lenin wasn't winking. Reed observed his eye-folds.
