Just a heads up, Portugal didn’t try to colonize Japan, they certainly wouldn’t have provided them with guns & armaments. It was commercial and trade in the region, setting up of trade cities and they kept Japan secret from the Europeans for over 57 years before the Dutch found out and were engaged in warfare with the Portuguese.

Something original and different for a change super exited to see what this game brings forth compared to other games.
Since Shadows is placed after Revelations and before Black Flag in the AC Timeline we can savely say that the templars are indeed part of this game and assassin's are also in full existence by that point in time.
They said it starts in 1579.

I really want the white and red color way traditional assassin's have with Yusuke hopefully becoming a assassin/hidden one (though still specializing in combat) the creed hasn't felt that present in these past few games. I really would like them to be a thing here and actually around.
Have you played Mirage? The creed somewhat felt present there
@David-nq8cv I was just gonna mention that they were only truly present in the story mode. Other than that, the Creed gameplay wise hasn't felt truly present since ac brotherhood.

The fact she dual wields the hidden blade with a tanto if you want to use the hidden during combat is amazing its been so long since we couls do this

yeh mate, definitely agree here, I'm hoping the animations are on point when you switch from katana to a hidden blade whilst in close quarters melee combat! Either way, having a hidden blade for other uses rather than just an instant kill animation is a great thing imo!

The antagonist it’s gonna be… I would say Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Because Takeda Castle, around 1580 it was managed by Hideyoshi’s brother called Hidenaga Hashiba.

Probably not but it would be interesting if the samurai/ronin being murdered in the forest is Akechi Mitsuhide. Akechi was murdered after his 13 day reign by bandits during his retreat in a bamboo forest from Toyotomi in the Yamazaki battle. Akechi betrayed Oda in the Honnoji incident and it is said while fighting alongside Oda he was ordered by Oda to help him commit seppuku and take his head and sword to Nobutada, Oda’s son. After doing so Yasuke took Oda’s head to a nearby shrine/temple where Yasuke used it to create a “death mask.”

On the battle with rifles against the Takeda clan, I think it could be the battle of Tenmokuzan in 1581, when Oda Nobunaga definitly defeated his rival Takeda Katsuyori.
There was also the battle of Nagashino in 1575 but Yasuke couldn't be there. He arrives in 1579, when the game starts, and meets Oda Nobunaga in 1581.
I strongly recommand Kurosawa's movie 'Kagemusha' about the end of the Takeda clan against Oda. It shows Nagashino's battle in 1575 and ends right before AC Shadows ! It's a good intro and we see the devastating use of rifles, surely an inspiration for this trailer :)
I do also agree with your idea of Akechi being (one of) the main villain, especially after the Honnō-ji incident in 1582. Traitor against Oda Nobunaga, he seems to have been killed mysteriously :)
Just to clarify to everyone so no one gets confused all Katanas are two handed swords if you only use one other than a follow through will actually break your wrist (even explain on Forged In Fire), but there were rare swords that were longer than the average katanas but you have to remember swords were designed based around someone height and build so no matter the size they were all designed as a two handed weapon. In history there was one Samurai that was 7 feet in height and his katana was 7 feet long, there’s also a famed Scottish warrior that was also 7ft tall and his 7ft tall claymore to this day sits in a Scottish museum. There is a shorter sword like a katana called a wakizashi which was specifically designed to be a one handed katana and was roughly half the length of a katana so about half the height of the owner. Tantos are daggers lol

The Order of Christ Cross was the original symbol for the Portuguese flag as the country was founded by Templars originally. The first king of Portugal was a Templar master so it makes sense that the ships had the cross on them, but yes most likely Ubisoft is going to paint my Portuguese ancestors as Templars in this lmao

I know it was probably a slip up but it was only 15 months that Yasuke served Oda Nobunaga until Oda death what happened to Yasuke after that is unknown

6:40 The point below the one you highlighted has me excited. Crafting our own katana? Yes please! Transmog? Heck yeah!! Hopefully the transmog system applies to armor/outfits as well as the weapons.
I'm in the process of making a fully comprehensive video on this mate and I've just come across customization, it seems like we will be able to create our own Katana according to Ubi which would be awesome! Hopefully we get transmog from day 1 and in our inventory (unlike Valhalla lol)

I just want to mention that the cross in the portuges ships are, probably, the “Cruz de Malta” or “Cruz de São Jorge”. It was pretty comum to have those in the ships. I could be templars as well…

What are your opinions on the prices of the editions from basic to ultimate? Personally found way to much over in India basically starting from 4899rs going till 9000rs.
tbh mate, really rough. I do feel there's an incentive from high command at Ubi to drive up the price of editions to tempt people into their Ubi+ subscription model as it's only $17 for 1x month and you could complete Shadows for that. Its a super interesting topic but I don't think they'd price it like it is if they didn't think people would pay it, which they will for sure; but that also generates a pretty ropey consumer>company relationship which is why I also think Ubisoft isn't particular popular right now. That said, if the game is a banger then the price complaints will somewhat be less loud than they are now tbh. Big change in the industry atm, so let's see how it pans out haha (will be breaking down all editions/costs in the next video and what you get for each btw, so look out for that if you're interested bro)

I'm really hoping for some good martial arts unarmed combat. I recently played Yakuza Kiwami 2, Y6 and the Judgment games, and their Dragon Engine is BEAUTIFUL and so satisfying to play in. The animations are super smooth and visually cool. I really want to see Assassin's Creed using the full potential of their own new improved engine to make parkour and combat shine again.

It’s confirmed that you can knock enemies out so I think you can at least do a bit of martial arts unarmed

On September 30, 1581, Nobunaga launched his own invasion of Iga on a much larger scale. The immediate trigger for this second invasion was a visit by two residents of Iga to Nobunaga's stronghold in Azuchi a month before, during which the men offered to serve as guides for an invasion of the province. Nobunaga agreed and rewarded the men.
In 1579, Yasuke was a slave brought by Alessandro Valignano from India who was a Templar.

l thought the trailer was great it was exciting and action packed of course they were complaints about the character being black which does not bother me and the least and people complain about protagonist’s being women which again does not bother me actually as a male gamer l have been choosing the women protagonist over the male protagonist enjoyed playing as Aveline in Assassin’s Creed Liberation and l enjoyed playing as Evie Frye in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and l choose to play as Cassandra in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey l enjoyed playing Forspoken even though that game was hated by some people are also upset that the new StarWars game Outlaws has a female protagonist l plan on playing that game also l will probably play the female protagonist first in Assassin’s Creed Shadows then play as the Black protagonist second hopefully they will have a separate and different storyline for both protagonist

Many clans fled from the volcanic eruption in Japan 7,000 years ago, moved to the area around Egypt, and then returned to Japan after many generations.
The game looks amazing, the game play, the graphics, story, and time period.
We've ALL been waiting for a feudal Japan Assassin's Creed game, and this very well could be one of the best yet.
It's been interesting to me that, though yasuke looks incredible in game, I watched Age of Samurai: Battle for Japan on Netflix, a documentary about feudal Japan during the time period of Odu Naga.
One of the reasons why I watched it was to hear at least something about Yasuke, and NOT one word about him was mentioned, NOT once, NOT even in passing.
IF Yasuke really is a real historical figure and IF he earned and gained the position and title of Samurai, that documentary would have mentioned it. Or, perhaps Yasuke wasn't even around yet during that period, but years after feudal Japan.
From what I understand, Japan was largely UNKNOWN to the majority of the world during feudal Japan.
Whatever the case, remember that though some things in the Assassin's Creed video games are historical, it's a fictional story.
I think they explain that at the beginning of each game.
I will buy and play the game and beat it with BOTH characters, HOWEVER, Fans of this time period want to play as an ALL Japanese male Ronin, Samurai, Shinobi, Shogun character as well, because that's what the game is about, feudal Japan. Even black people are saying the same thing.
Lastly, is it a feature in the game for character customization?! Part of this video looks like you can customize the male character how you want, maybe similar to Skyrim?!
IF that's the case, I think fans and gamers will be more pleased and the game will be more fun.
That SHOULD DEFINITELY be an option available for gamers.
MOST people that play Asian games with Asian story lines anticipate, expect, and want to play as an Asian character.
The same for African story lines, American story lines, Italian and French story lines, middle eastern story lines, hispanic story lines, game players play as the respected character according to that game's story line, background, country, and culture.
IF there is not a male ALL Japanese character to choose to play as in Assassin's Creed Shadows, PLEASE at least have the option of character customization so each game player can make the male character hero of the game look how he or she wants throughout the ENTIRE game, meaning, what you choose as the male character's customization, he will look like that throughout the ENTIRE game's story until beaten, then you can choose a different character customization.
I enjoy character customization. I think it's fun, to make the character how you like for the game's particular story.
EVERYONE has their likes and preference.
IF neither of these options are available for the male character in game, Assassin's Creed Shadows will NOT do nearly as well as it could.
This is the Assassin's Creed video game where ubisoft needs to pull out ALL the stops, and NOT hold anything back.
I'm excited for the potential. They have until November to add what they need to add to make EVERYONE happy and pleased. UNLESS of course they decide to delay the release date to add and / or make things better.
This is the one that's been the most highly anticipated!
PLEASE do NOT mess this up, ubisoft. You have the chance and opportunity to make this one of the best games for Assassin's Creed yet.

Awesome video, but Portugal did not want to colonize Japan. It wanted to trade and spread Christianity as form of mercantilism.
That premise of colonialism comes from Clavells "Shōgun", to make Blackthorne cunning attempt to turn the Japanese against the Portuguese. Or in a way, to villainise the Portuguese (Catholics) and glorify the protagonist (Protestant)
Nice to see the reference to the Tanegashima matchlocks, something else to highlight is the Nanban Do-Gusoku armour. The Japanese at this time are no longer using tight-leather armour, instead, metal armour also introduced by the Portuguese.

Jesuits focused on religious conversions as Buddhism, Islam & Christianity spread ideas. Jesuits would want a christian native populous of kingdom of Japan therefore by definition that was not colonialism by Portugal. Portugal was focused on the Golden Spice Trading & its clientele. Macau was honoured & given back, Hong Kong was not that says a lot.
1596 there was an attempted invasion by Franciscans & Spain when the San Felipe landed, 26 Christians were martyred in response, but Portuguese traders were not ostracized. This shows a clear distinction based on whom.

I feel like I've been waiting a decade for a Feudal Japan AC game mate lol, but I think Ghost of Tsushima is my favourite game of all time so going to have to see what they do differently here

Japan wasn’t colonized by Portugal, as they certainly wouldn’t have provided them with guns & armaments. It was commercial, bolstering relations and trade in the region, setting up of trade city (Nagasaki) and they had kept Japan secret from the Europeans for over 57 years before the Dutch found out and were engaged in warfare with the Portuguese.
Hey mate, may be worth giving the below sources a read as my understanding is Portugal's efforts were directed towards commercial activity/missionary conversion and colonization whereby they would set up small "colonies". For example, in China, Macau was granted to the Portuguese and remained a Portuguese colony until 1999. Additionally, in Nagasaki, the city was under the control of the Portuguese who lived there for a brief time, which was by the approval of the Japanese Daimyos.
As for firearms: "In 1543, Portuguese men on a junk that drifted ashore on Maenohama Beach on the Kadokura Cape at the southern end of Tanegashima Island (in present-day Minamitanecho) introduced guns (matchlocks) to Japan for the first time. Tanegashima Tokitaka, the daimyo at the time, noticed the power of the guns, bought two of them and had imitations made. As legend has it, in making the replicas, Tanegashima’s technicians had trouble with the screw mechanism used to close up the butt. This problem was solved when a blacksmith married his daughter Wakasa to a Portuguese man, who taught him how to make it.
As for wider trading: "The Nanban trade as a form of European contact began with Portuguese explorers, missionaries, and merchants in the Sengoku period and established long-distance overseas trade routes with Japan. The resulting technological and cultural exchange included the introduction of matchlock firearms, cannons, galleon-style shipbuilding."

@AndyReloads Hey Andy I may have misspoke, although I have not yet watched shogun, I meant to say they did not colonize to rule Japan as they did for example provide armaments to them & were trade focused so I’m in agreement with your comment, perhaps not with shogun. As even per your example Portugal did honour their agreement with China, so while it’s true that it was a colony I believe it was about mainly trading ports, commercial trade centric focus, sharing of commodities, ideals, relations as opposed to a Colonial Conquest by Portugal if Shogun depicts that, that’s the distinction I wanted make. @@AndyReloads 1. Nagasaki was not given to the portuguese. The portuguese founded Nagasaki. 2. There is absolutely no historical evidence nor reason that Portugal wanted to colonise Japan. There is only documents of Spain that state this. Portugal was focused on the Maluku islands where the real money was due to the spices.
