  • Founded by the late Neal Casal, this instrumental band of sonic explorers was born out of a request for set-break music during the Grateful Dead’s final run of shows in San Francisco and Chicago during 2015. Originally, CATS was going to be a one-off project, but fan feedback pushed Casal and company to release it as Interludes for the Dead. This wasn’t simply wordless Dead covers, but new creations formed in essence and spirt of the Dead.
    In 2018, the group released their second double album, Let it Wander, and followed it up with a completely improvised EP featuring drummer Joe Russo. Sadly, a week after tracking their self-titled album Casal took his own life. Casal urged the group to carry on without him. The group recruited Eric Krasno and Scott Metzger for various tours before settling in with John Lee Shannon in July of 2021. Shortly before a gig at Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, John Bohlinger caught up with Shannon and bassist Dan Horne to talk gear.

      Is because you have good musical taste that's happened to me with Robin Trower ( I always heard Blackmore , Malmsteen all the CBS fender stratocaster guitar players because the sound is different of the 50s and 60s era the intro was like Robin Trower " Bridge of Sighs " .

    I was listening to a lot of Eric Krasno when I came across Circles Around the Sun featuring Eric in a live setting. I was cruising in my car back from Asheville, enjoying every minute of that ride thanks to this band. Super cool rig rundown and even an Uncle Larry reference. Gotta love it.

    Those NYXL strings are great. I used the old XLs for a million years. The NY version feel a bit stiffer. The main thing is they last a long time before they oxidize, like 3 or 4 times longer imo. Good for guitars you don't play much.

    How are the cabs hooked up? Old style banana plugs? Neutrik? And three drivers-what's the load? A single Crown amp? Mono bridged? The signal chain from the FX-1 to the amp to the cabs would have been a pretty basic question.

    And wow totally cool. Nice control of sounds from keyboard to guitar and bass. Badass drummer : awsome groove and i really like his choice to not play fills all the time.

    just a comment about the daddario XS ad at the beginning. I thought these strings were great, because they sound really crisp, like elixir optiwebs,and they are very strong, I have never broken one(I usually break elixirs very occasionally). BUT the wound strings E,A and D do not sound good for very long at all. They won't break but they do not have the long life sound factor of elixir opti,nano or poly. They only sound good for the time that a standard daddario wound string does.So now I am using elixirs again because they are the same price.So says I

    • @Astral_Wave
      @Astral_Wave Před 2 lety

      I've played elixir for over a decade and have only broken one e string while tuning up and down more frequently than one should. I love them on guitar and bass. I didn't like the nyxl or anything not elixir for that matter and I've tried everyone's coated strings.

    Elixir strings are my bag. Been using them over 10 years and I've broken one string, a .010, and it was mostly my fault (tuning up and down, up and down ☺).
