    So glad you guys covered this! I had dermaplaning done months back and I started to breakout on my cheeks(my skin had never done that) and it progressively got worse as I kept going every month. My esthetician told me my skin was purging. Well 4 months go by and I had painful cystic acne all over my cheeks and I went to a derm and he said I had an infection due to the dermaplaning. The peach fuzz growing back was getting trapped and he said even with the proper exfoliation it wouldn’t help it. I will never do that again!

    I got purging recently. Never get any pimples and now they appears on my oily T-zone just after I start to workout. So it is not only using cosmetics but also diet changes, trainning body etc, it start to detox your body, and the skin will have purging quickly too. I used the same products with ingredients with sacilic acid, PHA, teatrea antioxidant, benzol etc to heal all little cyst and breakouts. I also avoid over exfoliate as well

      This happens to me too when I work out! I do everything I can to prevent acne at the gym: bringing a clean microfiber towel, patting sweat dry (not rubbing!), double washing. No matter what I do, my skin just wants to purge that acne out haha.
      I definitely think these methods decrease new pimples though, as a successful workout purge makes tiny papules flee before they become big pustules!

    when i broke out this year, i assumed it was fungal or irritation from using a facial sponge. once i tossed out the facial sponge, i still got the acne from time to time... turns out it was the cerave cleanser that broke me out and i wish it was just purging but i broke out for months. i never usually breakout so i knew something was wrong, i stopped using the cleanser and went back to my old routine, my acne finally cleared up 😭

      I got breakouts from using it and was quite surprised as I had heard it was supposed to be great for acne-prone people. But I did some research and found that one of the ingredients in the serum made some people get clogged pores. Once I stopped using it, my skin improved vastly. So I guess it’s just suited for some of us while it works great for others. I wouldn’t consider the reaction I had from it as purging.

      @moonsol406 Před 4 lety +2

      @@honeyedflesh yes definitely a personal choice i agree! but fragrance in skincare is an irritant for most even if they don't realize. they've done studies and tests on even natural fragrance and essential oils in skincare and found its only non irritating for human skin contact at less than 0.1which would be in the lower tier of the ingredient list. i believe having it in some of your products is okay especially when it's naturally derived (even though naturally derived fragrance like lemon peel and citrus fruits have been widely found to be irritating at the hypodermis). the problem more so comes in when you are using say a face wash, toner and moisturizer all with differently derived fragrances and the mix can be internally detrimental for your skin barrier even if it is not visible for years to the eye. your cells overturn daily so with daily use of fragrance and dyes on your face your cells are internally turning over with this information which definitely disrupts structures and doesn't promote cells staying healthy and youthful in the long run. even if you aren't allergic to fragrance outright you can develop sensitivities because our skin organ being exposed to those compounds consistently can reverse effects of some of the active ingredients we use. most dermatologist who looks deeply into different types of skin everyday for years would recommend fragrance or dyes. the overall dermatological stance is to get clean products free of fragrance at the very least even if you show no signs of sensitivity. even with perfumes which seep into the skin layers and expose our body to different chemicals that wouldn't otherwise be present has effects we don't realize. definitely to each their own and a personal choice though.

    I'm a combination skin type- Oily T-zone but dry flaky on the cheeks (& sometimes between brows). I use a face wash, toner, & SPF (I have a moisturizer on it's way).
    I experienced purging when I introduced Greek Remedy oil (has amazing reviews) to my nighttime routine. It REALLY confused me as it's pure, all-natural oils that are non-clogging. I speculate I was using too much (again, T-zone is already oily). I've yet to use it nightly (to push through a purge), but rather only a thin layer when my face feels extra dry or visibly flaky. It was just whiteheads, no pain, almost over night from using it. XD
    I also added Era-Organics Revive face scrub (walnuts as the exfoliate) and in just 3 days of using it, I could see even texture, old acne spots fading, and redness reduced. It's cruelty free, vegan, no perfume, no dye, sulfate/paraben free, and organic! A little pricey, but all those traits + results, it's worth it to me :)

    Niacinamide does not cause purging because it doesn’t speed cellular turnover. Instead, it inhibits melanin (darkening of the skin) and it regulates sebum production. If you’re using something like The ordinary’s niacinamide and you’re breaking out, it could be that your skin doesn’t like a specific ingredient in the product or you could be having an allergic reaction. Everyone’s skin is different. If you’re already acne prone, you could just be breaking out, completely unrelated to anything you’re using, since breakouts can take weeks to come to the surface of your skin anyway. It sucks but c’est la vie.

    For anyone that experienced purging from using TO Niacinamide 10% + Zinc PCA 1%, how long did ur purge last? It’s been a little over a week for me. I can see that the acne scars I had prior to using the serum are definitely fading but I am purging on both cheeks so I’m scared that my acne will continue to come out for more than 4 weeks.
    I use the Cerave cleanser for oily skin, niacinamide serum twice a day, cerave moisturising cream. Once a week I do a mask (clay mask by inkey list or cica sleeping mask by laneige) and i started applying retinol by Drunk Elephant once a week as well (i think this is also the main cause of my purge on top of not caring for my diet yet)

    Hey well I have a problem/question:
    My nose has had blackheads on it ever since puberty, and it’s been a few years, but they have still not died down or gone away. I’ve tried everything from charcoal masks to chemical exfoliants or physical exfoliants and nothing seems to work. If I don’t moisturize to avoid excess oil, my nose becomes dry and starts to peel, and when I do it’s not too oily but the blackheads will not go away. Someone please help!!

      Addy Park have you tried going to an esthetician? Perhaps they’re deeply rooted and need to actually be extracted

      Addy Park did you try the popular paula’s choice liquid exfoiliant? I didn’t have a lot of blackheads but I’ve been using that recently and I don’t have any currently. Also, have you tried the Indian Aztec clay mask for it?
