What is a Physiatrist?
Physical medicine and rehabilitation, also known as physiatry, is a branch of medicine that aims to enhance and restore functional ability and quality of life to people with physical impairments or disabilities.
What training is required to become a physiatrist?
In the United States, residency training for physical medicine and rehabilitation is four years long, including an intern year of general medical training. There are 83 programs in the United States accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, in 28 states. Specifics of training differs from program to program but all residents must obtain the same fundamental skills. Residents are trained in the inpatient setting to take care of multiple types of rehabilitation including: spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, orthopedic injuries, cancer, cerebral palsy, burn, pediatric rehab, and other disabling injuries. The residents are also trained in the outpatient setting to know how to take care of the chronic conditions patients have following their inpatient stay. During training, residents are instructed on how to properly perform several diagnostic procedures which include electromyography, nerve conduction studies and also procedures such as joint injections and trigger point injections.

Now that Dr. Webb is an attending, we need a "day in the life of an orthopedic spine surgeon". lol.
You’re such an inspiration, Dr. Webb. You lead us POC in the right direction, showing us we too can make it there. Thank you.
As an Rad Tech I’m happy for the shoutout that’s it’s actually us who’s operating the c-arm☺️.
I enjoy Dr Webb videos, their very motivational and encouraging. Everytime I finish watching one video I always feel motivated after watching.
Thanks!!
Another awesome, interesting, and informative video. Thank you for posting! Keep up the good work. Also, thank you to Dr. Bhuva for participating and sharing your story and career. Best wishes.
Scribed for interventional spine doc. Such a good chill career

This was awesome to see, love the awesome content
Wow I never even heard of this profession before. Very cool!
Really interesting, thank you
Hey I love your videos and especially loved when you talked to an omf surgeon. (You’re the only CZcams physician who even acknowledges them). But I was wondering if it would be possible to do a full day in the life of an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or a craniofacial surgeon?
Been waiting for this one! 🙌
*zaps self during NCS.... low response*
Gonna have to turn it up a little
*shown scrolling furiously on the dial to max* 😬
*casual second zap.... "doesn't hurt"*
In all seriousness, fantastic video by Dr. Webb! Thorough and in depth look at PM&R interventional spine practice. Thanks for the content!
Currently waiting for video. Thank you
Thanks! Almost time!
Love these videos :)
Thanks David!
Nice video Dr. Bhuva and Dr. Webb. I work with spine specialists and occasionally with spine surgeons. We do a lot of C-ESI, TF-ESI, IL-ESI, and MBBs. In addition to that, we also see patients for IAFs and SI injections. What do you think about RFAs? Most patients we have get benefits from it, typically about 6 months relief., but sometimes longer. However, some of our doctors have strong opinions about RFAs. If possible, would you able to explain why other physiatrist tends to shy away from RFAs?
This was awesome! I’m starting med school in a few weeks and this video got me interested in PM&R.
Great video!
Thanks Gabrielle!
👏 👏 👏 #Physiatry #PM&R
Still in undergrad but I would definitely love to go into this field
Whats the attending lifestyle for a ortho spine surgeon?
Hi Dr Webb, I'm nearly done with med school and I'm planning on also doing spine, however many of the surgeons (even the orthopods) I meet on my rotations and scrub in with recommend to go into Neurosurgery over Orthopedic for spine . I'm not sure if they're saying this based on them knowing a bit about me or whether in fact Neurosurgery is a 'better' path to spine. Could you possibly please elaborate a bit on this?
16:40 depends on location and the type of practice / etc but an interventional spine pmr doctor can make 250-300k starting salary and after building more experience and doing more procedures can go towards 500-600k/year
Can you do this exact profession out of anesthesia? I know they do interventional pain procedures so I assume this is the same.
Hey, what do you wear around the arms of your glasses? I see you wear them during surgery and am wondering where you got them.
I'm wondering, is it possible to do this kind of work through Radiology (IR?) or interventional neurology?
What’s the life style like being an orthopedic surgeon

Kristina Braly is an anesthesiologist in TX! She makes ditl videos about her job. You could DM her and see if she could help
Dr.Webb,
Can you please pick an ER doctor for the next day in the life?
I’m still deciding on whether going to medical school is the best option for me and I’m very interested in Emergency medicine. Thank you for your time!
Thx! I’ll look into this
Hey could you do a QnA?
Is it possible for you to do a sleep physician or neurologist in the future? Or even an ophthalmologist thanks

Why are the lights so psychotically bright in her clinic
Ah, PM&R, aka “Plenty of Money & Relaxation” ;)
Plenty of money...not quite
whoa...Adnan is on here too? I watch your videos too. I gotta be honest, the ortho guy you interviewed was pretty dry. Didn't give more than 1 sentence answers. I loved your derm and dermpath interviews
The camera need some work, sometimes it's like the cameraman is zoning out and not focusing on the right thing or doing unnecessary zoom ins. But great content nonetheless!
Is the doctor wearing Figs??
How much does she make?
She talk about it toward the end.
16:40 depends on location but an interventional spine pmr doctor can make 250-300k starting salary and after building more experience and doing more procedures can go towards 500-600k/year
My uncle does this he makes 300,000 US dollars a month
Does he work a lot?
a month? that's some bs. Average spine doc makes 300-350k a year
Becomes physical medicine doctor. Performs zero physical medicine or rehabilitation. Only injections, lol
