Log into your instagram using your pc or laptop, not mobile or tablet. then, Go to 'Settings' -> 'Privacy and Security' -> (Scroll down all the way) 'Data Download' Then you should get something in the email in the next few minutes. click that link and then the instructions are pretty much the same as facebook chat(that i show in the video). Once you download the zip file, you'll get all your chats there. 'Under Messages' folder
Hey man.. So I've downloaded my chat history since 2020 with my partner - and we send A LOT of messages in our long distance relationship. Anyway, it's given me 4 files to download - over 4gigs each! I downloaded the first one, and there were no messages within each person's name folder. Only Audio, photos, gifs, files (documents) and videos. I'm on my second folder download right now - scared the messages will still be missing. Is this to be expected? Will I find messages for certain in the other 4 downloads? Yes. As long as your conversation is actually in English and is written in English, you don’t need a translation even if it’s only 70% of the entire conversation. But if majority of your conversation is in your native language even if it’s written in English you will need to get it translated.

Thanks for your note. You make a good point. This is a tough one. I think, it’s only natural for couples to fight in chat. But, chat fights can get ugly too. And even though our expectation of the immigration officer is to be impartial, the impression that the heated exchange would give might raise some eyebrows. For instance, if a couple were to use foul or hurtful language in chats(not implying you, generally speaking), might be a problem convincing how compassionate the relationship is. Healthy disagreements on the other hand and a few squabbles here in there, as long as respectful and within boundaries should be ok.

If it’s 80% in English, I think you should be fine. As long as you have other documents to prove your relationship, 80% chat history should be more than enough.

So, i think, and this is just my opinion, you have to show proof of living together(proof of past cohabitation). even though you two live in canada, but as you said, different address, it might not work. try to get some documents that prove you two lived together in the past. The text that you exchanged with your spouse is the chat history.

Yes, That is what the instructions say. For the officer to understand the chat, has to be in written and spoken english. Some people are sending with translation and some are just sending as is. I would say safe to go as per instructions( even though-it is a bit tedious)

I have 1 more question, when we export chat it shows the name that we have used while saving the spouse name. mostly people use nick name or call their spouse with different name. What you think what should we do while extracting the chat.

Technically, according to the instructions you’re supposed to translate your chat if it’s not in English (typed in English and also the language in English). When you submit the chats you will have to attach the original chats and the translated documents and all the other documents which are mentioned on the instructions page. Mine was a mix of English and Hindi, so I just submitted my chats without any translation. But that was a little against the instructions so I would not recommend that. I’d say Do a little more digging( facebook groups, reddit) and see what other people submitted and then go with what you feel comfortable

Hiii, I would suggest that you can select any 10 random chats. It will be great if you choose a few constant conversation screenshots or exported chats of every month and still you can skip some particular months. It's not at all necessary to show Facebook and Instagram chats if you have enough WhatsApp chats. Yes, That is what the instructions say. For the officer to understand the chat, has to be in written and spoken english. Some people are sending with translation and some are just sending as is. I would say safe to go as per instructions( even though-it is a bit tedious)

I have 1 more question, when we export chat it shows the name that we have used while saving the spouse name. mostly people use nick name or call their spouse with different name. What you think what should we do while extracting the chat.

Hi Suyash, I do have two questions.
I have all my email conversation with my spouse in english, but in our Whatsapp chat we do have our conversation from past 5-6 years with 90% in our native language(typed in English).
1) So do you think I need to translate our Whatsapp chat?
2) If I do a translation, do I need to add screenshots of my Whatsapp chat as well?
Technically, according to the instructions you’re supposed to translate your chat if it’s not in English (typed in English and also the language in English). When you submit the chats you will have to attach the original chats and the translated documents and all the other documents which are mentioned on the instructions page. Mine was a mix of English and Hindi, so I just submitted my chats without any translation. But that was a little against the instructions so I would not recommend that. I’d say Do a little more digging( facebook groups, reddit) and see what other people submitted and then go with what you feel comfortable

Hiii, I would suggest that you can select any 10 random chats. It will be great if you choose a few constant conversation screenshots or exported chats of every month and still you can skip some particular months. It's not at all necessary to show Facebook and Instagram chats if you have enough WhatsApp chats. You can choose a few screenshots like 3-4 from each month and still free to skip some particular months. It's not necessary to include all social media conversation so go simply with Whatsapp it will work without any doubt.
