I would LOVE to live in Norway, having visited a handful of times. But as an older, self-employed American, there is just no easy way to go about it. I am toying with the idea of traveling on a visitor visa to several countries, staying in each for the allotted 3 months max. I don't know if that'll every work out, but I'll be starting with Norway if I can make it happen.

I like the way you edit your vlog. In Norway it's always a top to climb. In Sweden you can look for mushroms in the forest. Good analysis of Norway. When it comes to equality I wanted to tell you an anecdote that I found interesting. Maybe you know who Alexander Rybak is? If you do maybe you have heard this before, but if you don't then here i go....
He was born in Belarus, I think, and have been quite popular in Russia. He was brought up in Norway, so he naturally thinks like a norwegian. He said that once he was in Russia, having concerts there, he one day took the Metro, you know, like normal people, just like he would do in Norway.
When people recognized him there he was asked why he is on the metro. They thought that he as a famous person should not be there with common people. They could not understand this behavior.
When he come back to Norway he experience the opposite. If he try to rise above anybody here, anybody, then he would get backlash from that, and his popularity would be in serious danger.
Norwegians expect any famous person to just be and do like anybody else. He said that if he should choose, he likes the feeling of just being like anybody else, and not something special, just because he is good at music.
I don't know if you agree with this observation about Russia, but this is what he said. I see this in how we relate to our royal family here in Norway. As a relic from the past they have a traditional position to represent us on the highest level to other countries, but if they ever expressed any views or expression that they are more valueable than anybody else, then Norway would become a republic so fast... at least that is what i believe.
We are happy with our royal family today because they are humble, representing national values, and bind us together as symbols for what we are as norwegians. As long as they do this well I see no reason that we would stop having them represent us. They have a symbolic role to play, and they are are beyond party politics. They can have this role as long as they don't try to affect elections.

I personally don’t get it .. why would I spend 2 hours in a traditional Moscow traffic rather than make this journey within 15 mins on the tube (metro)? 🙂
Being born in Russia I spent 16 years of my life there, but I feel much comfortable to do business in England or Norway. People value you for who you are here, the level of your professionalism and the quality of services you can provide. Not for the car you are driving and for the brands you are wearing 😁
I’ve heard that Norwegian Royal Family is very down to earth, you can even meet the Crown Prince in a coffee shop in the city he lives outside Oslo 🙂

@@AnnaGoldmanTravelThanks for feeding our Norwegian egos, hehe :) It is a norwegian value to be humble, but we do take pride in our country quite a bit. I think you may find that our "private" nature go hand in hand with the country we have created.
One thing we may have in common with Russians is that we don't smile at each other very much, unless there is an obvious reason to do so. Smiling for no reason raises our defenses somehow. So we take our time to let people into our private sphere, but when you get in we will be very honest. Sometimes maybe more than you will be comfortable with, or maybe this is similar in Russia?
You are right that feminism are becoming obsolete in Norway, which is why it is not so popular here anymore. Some women have built their career on this though, so there are still some groups that hold the feminist fort, like they are worried that it could go backwards if they don't. One thing I can sympathize with them is that typical womens jobs, like teachers and nurses could get some raise in wages.
If youi look at norwegian history there have been a few lucky turns to make Norway what it is today, but culturally you can find the ideals of equality all the way back to the Viking age. It has also been quite easy to convince people in Norway about gender equality, which is also something that is carried across since the Viking age.
We have had our periods of oppression from the higher classes, and at times quite severe, but our old culture of equality and individuality seem to have been rooted deeply in us, so that it raises up again when it finds a chance.
You know, after the Viking age we became part of the wider european culture, but always mixed with out pre-christian culture underneath, so today even chistianity in Norway is in general very mild, and it is not many people who thinks religion is valid in political debates.
If you read some of the old texts from the Viking era, maybe first and foremost Håvamål, which is advice for life, I think you will clearly see how Viking ideals shine through in norwegian culture today.

I live 2 hours max away from the border with a car from Bohuslän, I think I will stay here in my Sweden and come over and visit now and then. One of the best trips I ever had was in school in 9th grade. We always went up to the mountains and trekked for 3 days, and 2 extra nights. Sure it sucked, my feet always hurt since I was a child, not fun, and on the second day I got 40 C fever while walking in rain, sucked much more than the feet. Think it got to 41C on that evening... But my god it was beautiful. I recognized one part with a waterfall in the movie Trolljegeren ( The troll hunter), looked familiar and I realized we went past taht very place. So if you watch that movie, when the hunter is checking stones, I was there :D

I'm from Minnesota. I've spent about a month in Norway over a couple trips. Id say over all my experience was very good with the local people.. 1 think you never want to do in Norway is drink and drive , speed and watch were you park cause you will get a parking ticket faster than you can say holy shit. Parking tickets are about 700 Kroner The fines are crazy high for drinking and driving ..Only 1 drink can get you a fine.

I’m putting it in my next video 😉 that speeding tickets come in proportion to your income and high speed sometimes can be classified as possession of a small quantity of A class drugs .. yeah, they are extremely tough with the way people drive here and it’s better not to touch alcohol at all if you are planning to drive after 🙂

Our old "asketic protestant" heritage with a lot of push for sobriety also works in favour of this.

Excuse me. Fines and speeding tickets are not proportioned to income in Norway. All fines for violations are the same for anyone only based on the level of violation. Only Finland and Switzerland fines violation based on income.
A quite rich man was fined in Finland once and had to pay a million euro for his speed violation.
@@mortenBP Well not correct. Yes most fines are based on fixed ammounts but the judge can and have in previous history done it on a income base. It's rare but it can happen. And it's for DUI not speed they can base the fine on if you got a good base income so "rich" people cant buy them out easily.

Hei, nice videos.... but you lived a year in Norway, and very close to the capital. Norway is very different between cities, from north to south and east to west. I've lived here in Norway for 10 years and despite all the positive things you can take advantage of in the Norwegian way of life, it took a long time for me to adapt and feel integrated into society. I'm not thinking about going back to my home country at the moment, like you said, here you can find a lot advantages specially when you have kids. And you? what is your origin country? Your statements have merits. That's enough to convince me and my family to move to Norway.
I'm a British Muslim of Mauritian descent, I'm trying to estimate what they'd equate in pounds before I'd consider moving there with my family. The cost of living in Norway is like 45,790 euros which would equate to approximately £ 39336.05 which seems reasonable price.
It’s better to get a job in Norway first before you are moving there.

@@AnnaGoldmanTravel That should actually be more than sufficient if I'd say so myself. I do live by myself, however I still live relatively comfortably on only an equivalent of £17,000 per year before taxes. Naturally depends on where you live and how large ones family is. I for example live just outside of Bergen.
A note on exercice. Being dragged along for hikes and trips probably depends a bit on who you get as collegues. My guess is that you work in a smaller corporation, with people with quite a lot of education. Those middle upper class people often tend to have a relatively physical active everyday life, and what you say is true. But believe me, there are many Norwegians who also leads an unhealthy life, and who would not invite you along for a hike as part of work. What is true, however, is that social life often revolve around collegues.
Personally i like to keep my home life relativly seperate from work, i have been burnt in the past. Snowboarding and skiing sound like fun, i like the outdoors and gym life but to spend the weekends with colleagues as well im not sure about that.
How do sick days work? Are they understanding, or is this super not ok in the culture that seems so healthy?
They are very polite sometimes you can tell if somebody is not from norway and has not been there for awhile just by how they act/react to sertant things. (Sorry if my english was bad)

There are no limitations on how many animals you can have. (unless you are renting and it's specified in the contract) But Animal wellfare laws are taken very seriously, so you are responsible for taking proper care of all animals you own.

We got semester fees at the university. However, their only like $180 a year.
My son goes to a christian oriented school and we are paying about $110 a month. So not totally free.
"Afterschool" system for kids 6-9 year olds cost like $320 a month. So they can stay at school until the parent/s pick them up after work. You get a reduction if you got more than one kid. Kindergarten also cost the same (often $350ish).

Making friends in Norway is not the same as in Italy or England - where you can just chat with strangers for ours in the pub. In Norway the ways of meeting new people will be different and it usually takes longer to actually become friends with them. But when it happens, rest assured, you’ll stay friends for a very long time 😉

When you talk about the public sector on education and the "free" part, is debatable and I am questionable of the methods. What I also know in Norway, like Sweden and Denmark, the economy have far more freedom then usa and uk, so you could say it's why education is affordable by the sate, still it's likely for other reasons, namely on trade off state funding and population.

Everything is very relative. First, need to find job ,it can be a challenge ,unless you speak fluent Norwegian or have demanded ocuppation .Norwegians will be prioritized for job first .

When it comes to work times in Norway, there is strict rules so people can't work too much as it's illegal. You get well paid for 8 hours a day anyway, 5 days a week. Spare time is a important part of the Norwegian culture. If you are a boss, these rules don't apply.
