My thoughts after living in Puerto Vallarta for a year.
Living in PV my monthly expenses are approximately $2 000.00 USD.
In Canada it would be 2 or 3 times more expensive, also it is super easy to live on
Under $1 000.00 USD a month. (you can find information in my previous videos)
Mexico is a pretty affordable place to live.
Everything is cheaper- rentals, utilities, bills cost, food, transport.
IN MEXICO YOU CAN FIND DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES
Fantastic place with different activities of your choosing. You can bike, hike, surf, diving, snorkelling, do yoga, Pilates and much more. You won't be bored here!
HEALTHCARE IS AFFORDABLE IN MEXICO
In Mexico, visiting a doctor, dentist, or buying prescriptions is affordable for almost anyone. Even without insurance. $100 USD for a specialist appointment and wait time - 1 day in most cases.
MEXICAN PEOPLE ARE SUPER FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.
People are open and friendly and happy to share their culture. Mexicans like to have a good time and are generally easy to be around. Overall, it’s a pretty chill culture.
STAYCATION IN MEXICO
Mexico is such a big country, and there are a lot of places to go and to see. You can find so many beautiful destinations where to go for staycation.
MEXICAN FOOD IS AMAZING.
There are so many options for any type of diet, this is a perfect place for vegans, vegetarians, fish lovers. Also, Mexican traditional food like tacos, tamales, burritos, quesadilla is very very delicious.
GROCERY SHOPPING IN MEXICO
Mexican supermarkets are big, modern, and have an excellent selection of food. I find all necessary products and supplements for myself.
PUERTO VALLARTA IS VERY SAFE

I came to Mexico on a whim when I was 54, and it was so pleasant and healthy to live that I am still in Mexico at 75. I have been to PV many times, but prefer to live at altitude in Lake Chapala area. Last time I had a medical issue the waitress at one of my favorite places to eat made a liquid for me to drink that was clear, bitter, and entirely effective. She absolutely refused to be paid for it, because she loves me...
It’s called humanity. I see it all throughout Central and South America. Take care
I've been thinking of getting out of the USA - so this was very interesting to hear. I'm in my 60s but the last two years in the USA have me feeling about 75.
I say, go for it, Dave!
The moment you step off the plane, you will know you've hit heaven. That's how it is with me, every time I go there.
We just returned north after a three month stay in Nayarit. This fall we plan to return for six or more. It is far easier to live well in Mexico! Thank you for being such a great spokesperson for life there.
Thank you very much for watching my video 😍
I took several bus rides, just got on them and rode them to the end of route, one neat trip was to San Juan Abaho ?? Saw lots of produce loaded into Air Canada containers.
So much to do, and stay away as the shadows start, safer.

Seriously asking.
Why are there warnings about traveling to Mexico on the U. S. Government Website
What would happen if god forbid you were in the accident and need spine surgery, how much would that cost? I think not having medical insurance is very risky thing. I am glad you are enjoying your life and beautiful weather in Mexico, but I think you should definitely buy medical insurance.
Lived here 5 years and you have sumed up many of my feelings for Vallarta and MX!
Gracias Ronald for watching 😍
Been to Mexico 18 times We love it
We relocated to Morelia, Michoacan almost 2 years ago. My wife is Mexican and I'm from Reno, Nevada.
The cost of living, people, culture, architecture, and of course, the food! We're aware of the crime statistics, but haven't been victimized by any crime. If you pay attention, and don't get involved in things where you shouldn't, you'll be fine.
We rent a beautiful, nearly 4000 sq ft home, for $400.00 (USD) monthly. We live wonderfully on my Social Security alone, with plenty left over monthly. It's prove to be the best move I've ever made!
VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽
Puerto Vallarta is the Beverly Hills of Mexico!!!! I’m here now and amazed!!!!
It's always so uplifting to watch your videos! Thank you so much for sharing your incredibly happy and positive energy! I can't wait to get back to Mexico! 🌞🥰🌞

living in Canada is hard. The winter is tough, the taxes are high, it is hard to find a doctor and medical services are free but it takes months to get appointments with specialists. Also we were locked down for 2 years. I have been looking for another country to live in. I was looking at the US but it is hard to get in and it has similar negative issues as Canada. But Mexico looks like an affordable, healthier and easy option. Thank you for sharing your experience.
De nada Cynthia 💥
Canada has turned into a nightmare under the tyrant Trudeau. 😩 Many are trapped by his mandates😫
US is very expensive, rent, food, transportation, gas, car insurance, phone, everything is too expensive
Mexico is a more affordable country, millions of us citizen are moving to Mexico
Hope you speak spanish or you will still be an outsider
@@user-nq9gz4xf7f I do speak Spanish, still learning, but feel comfortable talking to Mexicans.
So happy to see you’re still happy in Puerto Vallarta. I was there for 3 months this winter and kept my eyes open to meet you. Maybe next winter. Enjoy
Hola Karen:) i meet my subscribers very often just on the streets and the beach, too bad we didn’t cross. Next winter for sure, !!!
I have fallen in love with Puerto Vallarta from afar and I can certainly see why you decided to call it home. I’m looking forward to another year of your interesting and fun videos:))
Thank you Jazzy very much for following my channel ❤️
It’s so great and good when you’re healthy. Not having medical insurance is crazy. I was healthy and great also until my spine decided to disintegrate. I don’t know what I would’ve been doing if I didn’t have health insurance. And good luck to you!
Larissa, thank you so much 💖 for speaking this good of my country. Kisses, Paulina.
Gracias Paulina por ver mi video 😍
My son became ill with strep throat some 15 years ago while we were vacationing in Mexico (Mayan Riviera) It cost $500 for a doctor to see him and another $50 for medication. We were eventually reimbursed as I had medical coverage however I would imagine that price has not gone down now! In addition we had numerous items go “missing” from our room such as watches, shoes ! We were constantly accosted on the beach for money or goods! There were two knifings and a shooting during the 10 days we were there in a local town!
When was this ?
I am a 66 years old and have been a solo traveler for many years, I was in Mexico last year for the first time because everyone was telling me how dangerous it is, we’ll I spent 5 months there, it’s a gorgeous country with beautiful people eager to help if you ask for it. My last 2 1/2 weeks I spent in Mexico City, I got IBS and went to a doctor that examined me US$60 and gave me prescription US$12. Also since I have no dental insurance in USA I went to a dentist for cleaning and to replace 6 old fillings, total charge US$330. Never had anything taken nor ever felt unsafe, just different experiences.
You mean crime something like every single day in the U.S.? You can't possibly think there's less crime in U.S.

Vallarta is a very nice place to visit and I definitely love going back there every once in a while but I don't think I would ever consider living there. Not too mention it's ultra touristy which i think sadly takes away from it's authenticity. I much prefer places in Mexico like Oaxaca or Chiapas personally speaking. If you enjoy seeing different places in Mexico I highly recommend you to visit those states at some point. Also, the snowbird months are very comfortable weather wise mostly sunny and very pleasant. I beg to differ for July and August where Vallarta rains extremely even compared to BC standards. If you think Vallarta is cheap, try SE Asia or even Colombia. Vallarta is cheap compared to places Vancouver, Toronto, NYC, San Fran or LA and that's where it stops. Also, I would really encourage you to look into some type of health insurance. You can be the healthiest person in the world and no matter how much you look after yourself and do pushups in the sand or surf you just need one thing to go wrong, such as an injury and it can be a serious problem that can ruin you financially. What a crap shoot.
Hola Jonathan I travelled around the world and now I call Mexico home. PV has my heart ❤️ because of the vibe and vibration, it’s just my personal choice:)) I am from BC and know how depressing the weather could be in Vancouver when you don’t see blue sky and sun for months, and here we have sun every day , rain season is beautiful here, rains at night, blue sky in the morning 💥 I agree with you about the health insurance, just applied for it and will be covered soon 👍 thank you Jonathan for your comment 🙏
@@LarissaSokla Vallarta is a great place, my family has been living winter after winter over the last 30 years in Vallarta. I love visiting but I wouldn't want to live there year round. July & August is too hot, humid and rainy there for me. I definitely love Mexico over the rainy lower mainland but I would miss Whistler/Blackcomb because I can't get enough of it. I know what the GVA is like and it rains way too much for my liking and it's gotten too expensive, I agree. That being said I love being in Vallarta in Winter but in Summer I much prefer Canada. I totally agree with you about the food in Mexico. I also have travelled around the world and all over Mexico as well and can attest that the food in Mexico is one of my favorites, up there with Italian and Japanese. So you are completely right about the Mexican gastronomy, it's the best in Latin America in my opinion. The amazing thing is, is that every state in Mexico has its own food staples. My favorite for food being hands down Oaxaca without any hesitation. Another up and coming city to check out although it is far from Vallarta is Merida in the Yucatan peninsula. I definitely recommend you to check that city out at some point even though it's far from Vallarta, there are the occasional seat sales found with Volaris or even AeroMexico where you can find a round trip for about $4K pesos or on rare occasions sometimes even less. Just keep your eye out for them. You will love it.
@@LarissaSokla PS. I think it was a smart idea to get health insurance. I understand none of us like paying for insurance, me included. That being said, in the event one day unexpected shit hits the roof, we are very glad we have it.

Hi larissa is nice to see your new video is so nice to hear that you are enjoy the VP life so happy for you keep enjoy happy anniversary 🙏

You are so inspiring! Thank you. 🤗
The cost of living in Mexico is a mixed picture, imo. Locally grown foods, domestically produced goods, and, of course, services are inexpensive compared to US or Canadian prices but electronic services and imported items are often as expensive or more expensive than north of the border. There is no "Mexican discount" on Samsung or LG home appliances, for instance, just the opposite. And then there is the infuriating practice of multi-national companies offering lower-priced goods for sale here in Mexico that are basically junk and not worth buying at any price. A pet peeve of mine!
If you live in Mexico, especially on a lower income, you are going to visit Walmart probably once a month or so because it is the cheapest place to get things like toothpaste, household cleaners and detergents, etc. And finally, the Mexican diet is actually heavy on meat - vegetarianism is in its infancy here. But if you are preparing your own meals at home as a vegetarian you will find Mexico an excellent location - there are always some kinds of veg and fruit in season, cheap and abundant, and dried beans are still inexpensive.
Where is a good safe place in Mexico to live that has somewhat temperate weather?
@@rcardoosuna6491for me, the temperate zone in Mexico lies between 1500 and 2500 metres above sea level - meaning central Mexico. Regarding safety imo money and lifestyle go a long way in creating a safe place to live. I have lived in Mexico City for 12 years without incident, 10 of those years in del Valle, an upper middle income neighbourhood. My lifestyle doesn´t include higher risk activities like hanging out in bars at 2 a.m. or buying street drugs. So, one option is living in a larger urban area in a higher income area and in a building with a security guard. If that doesn´t appeal to you, a second option could be living in a gated community with 24-hour security in a smaller city or suburb which has a lower background level of crime. Such places do exist and are probably more affordable than my first option.
Very insightful and helpful video Larissa. Thank you for posting.

If I ever find myself on my own again, I am going to move there for awhile. Try Saulita and San Poncho. It is close to Puerto Vallarta.
OH lovely and well expressed and glad to hear how you enjoy PV too and stress a few good points after safety, cost of living etc... but to say that it is 2 to 3 times more expensive to live north in Canada!? Hum!? I guess you refer to Vancouver or some locations like Toronto that are expensive but overall but the rest of Canada is able to live at a much lower cost of living than in the major cities, got to be fair when say somehting as general as this! And now with all the viruses, and the unkown with Covid variants as it's NOT over yet, to live in another country with good health insurance could be really risky! I would not take that chance. This winter a Canadian in our building fell off a PV uneven sidewalk, got to go to emergency X-ray over night on meds as very swollen, small bones broken in her foot, surgery the day after and back to her condo with a nice bill of $9,800 US, it comes close to $12,600 CDN, Ouch! ;)
I’ll be the same .. living in the beach eating healthy doing activities and exploring different cities .. wish me luck
This is a life❤️ Good luck Evelyn 💥💥😍😍
Hola!! Can't wait to retire this fall in Mexico!
Has sound
Thks, refreshed, sound now!!👍
I have reviewed several of your videos and it appears you do not live in Puerto Vallarta. From what I can glean, you live in Nayarit which is totally different than living in PV. I am a Mexican national, having been born in Mexico and living here for quite sometime as well as living in California and Oregon. In regards to living in PV for $300-400 per month I think you should be honest and describe the type of unit you will get for $300-400 per month in PV as it will not be anything Expats will want to live in as it will take at least $800-1000 for anything decent that an Expat would even consider. PV has gotten so expensive, the unit I rent is $1,200 per month and that is a great deal which being Mexican and speaking the language is why I’m able to rent a very nice place for this amount. Please do not sway your viewers to believe the rent is so cheap in PV because it is not. This is now an expensive city to live in as far as rent and buying real estate. Nayarit is cheaper but it does not offer or is even close to the amount of wonderful restaurants PV offers. Last of all, a $300-400 rental in PV will have a lot of noise constantly, garbage everywhere, starving animals everywhere and the neighborhood will be my people who work several jobs to survive as the prices have gone through the roof. Please be factual and honest when you speak of PV as it is not Nayarit.
Hola Eddie
Yes I live in Nuevo, but my videos about PV and areas and mexico as well. I show different rental options
So people have an idea what to expect, and many expats like simple life style. We have a choice here, that’s why I love 🇲🇽 mexico !!
@@LarissaSokla I agree everyone has a choice of where to live in Mexico. What I was expressing is that your viewpoint comes from the perspective of an expat, not a native Mexican. There is no way you can express an opinion of those of us who we’re born in Mexico and live in Mexico as you have no idea of what it’s like to have to grow up in Mexico, work in Mexico and survive with the enormous increase in the cost of living in Puerto Vallarta. Your an expat that has only been living in Mexico for one year which clearly shows in your videos. I would suggest you not try to be a Mexican who was born and has lived their entire life in Mexico as you have no idea what we Mexicans go through on a daily basis. It’s similar to me trying to be a Canadian and do videos about Canada when I was not born there nor having lived there. Enjoy your expat life and don’t express your life as a Mexican because you are simply an expat living in our wonderful country. Viva Mexico 🇲🇽
Very interesting -I can only use small markets and farmer markets for food. I don’t even use the supermarket chains certainly not Walmart so this is interesting
Thanks Deboragh for your comment 💥
I love your videos I have found that it seems to be way cheaper in Southeast Asia. Mexico is more convenient getting back and forth though. My monthly bills in Tennessee and the United States is less than a thousand a month including eating drinking beer smoking. I will say though I'm lucky because I live with my oldest son and I have very few rent bill I paid $250 a month all bills for my own room so that's a rare thing
That's because you live with your son, so you are sharing expenses..
Gee, I can't see why that wouldn't work.. Living so cheaply in the US..
@@whyputaname there's nothing wrong with sharing expenses. In my area I can literally get a one bedroom water and trash included tile floors throughout with a built-in dishwasher for like 450 a month. I do this for a specific reason. My son needs the help because he has a 1-year-old baby and it helps me out because it's cheap rent. We're helping each other out. Also my main reason for doing it is every year for 3 to 4 months I go to Montana and work at Glacier national Park where food and housing is provided. This is why I can't get my own place and sign a lease because I would be paying on rent when I'm not even there once a year. It's working out perfectly fine
@@whyputaname I had a roommate and a two bedroom house with an office for like $500 a month divided by two. So even in that house it was cheap and I really knew the landlord well so I wasn't really on a lease. I moved out of that house on purpose with plenty of money to keep paying rent and moved in storage unit for a year and 4 months while I worked a job and saved all kinds of money
@@whyputaname even when I was married and had stepkids and my own kids in the house we had a four bedroom farmhouse on 7 acres and it was under $600 a month. Anyway, I easily survive on the money I make and I can easily survive six months in a row in another country. I can't do it full time cuz I have no income coming in I just have money saved and I'm kind of a penny pincher
@@andrewbrann6231 ... Never said there was a problem with sharing expenses. But you brag when so many others are being evicted from there homes now. Foreclosure are up, Rental evictions are up and yet you brag..

I stayed in old town Vallarta for 3 months in 2018. It was ok, but I wouldn't go back to that part of Mexico. Vallarta is too much of a tourist trap. Oaxaca is a place I might try.
As we age, medical issues creep upon us. Not having health insurance is really a big gamble. Physical activity is excellent for the heart and stamina, however, that's not a guarantee against illness or injuries. That's just my opinion.

Could be nice to hear you speak about how prices are skyrocketing (why should I rent my place to a local if can get 3x more renting to a gringo??) and making so hard for locals who make pesos to get an almost decent place. Btw, is so nice to see how many buildings are rising everywhere... Just for you guys!.
But meanwhile Larissa, please enjoy and encourage more white ppl to come, be another amazing random white lady
Gracias Luis por ver mi video 🙏
@@LarissaSokla thanks for coming here and contribute with your grain of sand to fuck up little by (not so little) our quality of life
@@luismedina8086 Good Point.👍

Hola hola amigo:) gracias por ver mi video 😍
hi Vancouver being like me. I am retired and move to Windsor, Ontario. I just came back from Cancun, Mexico and it was great and I must say that the only negative being in the last taxi to the airport, the driver did not take a credit card like the other taxi in the city. He said the he only take cash. Anyway he was really negative. So! I gave him the $35.0 US unlike taking the Canadian dollars. I did not give him a tip! Well he was really upset from not getting any tip. His attitude was so bad compair from any other beings from Cancun. Last year I also went to Puerto Vallarta and this was also wonderful. I am so glad from your video in Puerto Vallarta and I would love to know more. I have subscribe to your video and sure love them. Thank you for telling the truth...................Merci.......
Hi Josanne sorry to hear about not a pleasant experience with taxi driver, but it can happen anywhere. Caribbean side of Mexico is more expensive and it’s really commercial, also weather is hot and humid compared to pacific side . PV has beautiful weather:) Thanks for watching my video 💥
I have lived in other countries, so some inside details. Some general some MX specific.
1] In most of the world debt is not a thing. You owe people money in other countries, you can go to jail and have your passport seized. You bounce a check, do not pay a bill - BIG trouble.
1a] You incur big medical bills the hospital will seize your passport until paid.
2] You cannot leave your place unattended for days or weeks or months. Either thieves will loot it, or your neighbors will just assume you returned to your native land and they will take it all.
This is why people pay for house sitters in Costa Rica and Panama.
3] If you like having any nice collection of art, equipment, furniture, musical instruments, this is MUCH more difficult. The lack of security stability and higher crime make this hard.
4] In Mexico people "dress down" their homes. The outside is a dump to deter [2] above but inside is a palace.
5] Mexico is infinitely corrupt and run by the Cartels.
6] It is explicitly illegal for ANY foreigner to get involved in MX politics. This is written into their constitution. Never even speak of politics. Big trouble if you do. Shut up.
I was wondering if there are nice RV Parks by the ocean? I have a Casita Travel Trailer that is perfect to live in if I needed to. I have a 5th Wheel I could being down as well.
Sorry, Lois I don’t know if there is RV Park near the ocean :(
@@LarissaSokla Thank You for your video! PV is my favorite vacation destination!
