Biggest crash of my life - Morocco Desert Challenge part 2

- Rally is definitely not glamorous! More behind the scenes doing extreme desert rally... Absolutely brutal days with a lot of rocks and insane heat at the Morocco Desert Challenge. The peak temperature was 48 degrees. The last 100km took a serious amount of digging deep and I had a huge off 30 km from the end. Seriously hard riding in the heat. 6 bikes over took me while I recovered myself from the off and my confidence definitely took a hit. It was a HARD DAY! The good news is I have the off on video (it is rather spectacular). It ripped my helmet clean off but the Alpinestars airbag saved me, deploying before I hit the ground. Seriously winded but unhurt, I cracked on but lost my pace big time. I tried to crack on as best I could knowing the end was close… 😤
Bike is all good. I had to wiggle the grips etc straight after the off but he’s a beast!! And he took it like a hero. I’m nervous about the weight in the dunes but I’ll do my best. Super pleased with my nutrition, the new Tail Wind energy electrolyte in my water is definitely keeping my energy more stable.
Body is shattered but lots left in it!!
And eeeeek... Proud to be placing 24th mid way through! I have been a mess on making the bivoauc, mostly from heat!!
Next episode we hit the dunes … stay tuned.

Honestly the scariest part of that was your helmet coming off. There is absolutely no way that should have been able to happen!
Yeah, what happened there!?
True. Vanessa how did that happen? Was it strapped too lightly? Did your airbag come off?
Or not strapped at all? That was not good to see
I don't strap mine all the time
@davehoward22 now you see why that's a bad idea.
Thankfully I'm OK. I had a pretty bruised up chest/belly from hitting the tower and a pulled neck. Mid an extreme desert race battling mental heat (that actually took lives) I mad a dumb error of not fastening my helmet at the 1 neutralisation stage where we get 20 minutes mid way through the 425km off road stage. My mind was so focused on fueling, water, checking bike, trying to eat, attaching water pipe to helmet, not being late etc my mind just totally missed my helmet buckle. I'm only human and totally messed up. Although in this very unusual situation I think it actually helped me. When my chin caught in the sand and pulled the helmet, it was able to come off. My gut says if it hand not been undone it might have ripped my neck even more. Maybe some power out there was looking after me but I will definitely be being far more vigilant with my pre pull away checks in the future!! Such an idiot.
I'm only human and doing my best, and I did come 24th overall so I definitely wasn't slow 💪💪💪 some might say I should not have shared this video but if you've followed me for a while you'll know I share all angles, not just the ones that "make me look good". Real honest truth. Life is a big learning journey ❤️
Great job Vanessa!! You rock girl!
Best wishes for a quick recover Vanessa, keep it, you're awesome, and truly inspiring and you will get over it soon! 👍👍
Great video Vanessa as always, but that last crash was brutal. Glad your ok, if not just a bit battered and bruised. You are such an inspiration to us all.
4:40 love the editing here, fast music then SILENCE to a crash! You're really inspiring Vanessa, seeing the short clip I came to this video with the assumption that you'd broken an arm and were going to get evac'd out, but nope. Just up and rode 30km on with a potentially busted gut, got yourself ready for the next day and kept going. Brilliant brilliant stuff.
Ma'am... The helmet.. I love your videos, I love your character in these amazing stories and adventures, but please don't kill yourself. It came off like nothing. Keep it fastened!! Please. Anyway as always, nice video!! We love you, God bless you! Keep it safe! Have fun!
Thought the same things, What a crash but that helmet got off way too fast
Your videos are so epic to watch! Thank you for the amazing content. Howzit from Seattle USA 🤙
Great video Vanessa again you have gone from strength to strength soo impressive and I’m a little jealous keep it coming 👍🏼
One tough girl and excellent rally rider. Never doubt yourself after this performance. Full of admiration for you. Keep the faith!! 👍👍
"Glamour and Rally don´t go hand in hand...". But beauty lies in the eye of the beholder, and toughness is damn attractive, methinks. All the best! GO VANESSA!
You absolute legend 🏅🏅🏅 watching with respect, completely in awe
Ouch! That was a hard off. Amazing riding, though, roughing it out. Well done!
Another top video Vanessa. If I was wearing a hat I would take it off to you. This looks like a really fun but gruelling week. You're doing really well. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing as always, love watching your movies.
So interesting 🙌🙌
Woo thanks so much, mega appreciate your follow and support
Good dam it. Good to see you're okay after the crash. Really scary to see the helmet fly, and thank god the airbag deployed. All the best and take care.
TYSM for representing all women who love motorcycles. You are an excellent rider.Love your videos
Damn girl... you went flying.
You doing really well so far, take it easy and remember we all rooting for you! Be Strong girl
Thanks so much 🫶
VR you are amazing, and I think you answered the “biggest balls” question. Ride wild, ride safe.
I can smell the atmosphere what a fantastic life experience, great filming
MATE!!! You are hardcore, that was a massive crash , so glad you got up from that. 48’ man I couldn’t function in that heat, I struggled in Spain 2 wks ago at 34’. No wonder your insides are rebelling 😂loving this series of videos. You are living girl 🤩👍🏻
Girl???
You deserve 100k's of views for your videos. Every one of them are epic. Your style during the vids and editing are brilliant. Hope you are safe after your crash
Good to hear all beep-beep's when you hit the marks, but sad you had to produce a few of your own when being tossed off brutally. I remember how I followed you on the map during the race, but the intensity that comes through on screen now is another level than watching a moving GPS tracker.
You are one of a kind, Vanessa! ⭐
The beep beep are from the others coming up and passing her and when she is close to other vehicles out front
Ouch!!! Jeepers Kreeeepers. That was tough to watch. Glad you're going to be okay
Hi Vanessa and Anika !
Fantastic video!
How scary !
Please don't forget to always adjust your helmet straps going forward!
I had a motorcycle accident last week in Iceland and hit my head on a rock. The helmet cracked but thank God it saved me!
Good luck and keep up with your beautiful work
Best
Andre
Vanessa Vanessa Vanessa, What’s with the helmet coming off? That will never happen if it’s strapped on your head tight. Im very surprised at you!🤨🤬 I know you know better! Be careful out there and make sure you take the 🏁. And that word!😂 I love it. Be Good Vanessa!❤️
Accidents happen and mistakes were made but I'm only human, but I will be extra careful with all my safety checks from now! Oops! Lesson definitely learnt

Just came across your channel. You are awesome. Love the content.
Welcome aboard! Super appreciate your kind words, hope you are still enjoying the videos
Wow that last fall looked like it hurt bad glad you are ok keep on keeping on.
Hats off,you are incredible..wishes from South India
aw thank you
You are so hardcore and a real inspiration! What an adventure.
Yeah a real inspiration to buckle your fucking helmet…..
Does hardcore mean riding above your limits and constantly being distracted (and crashing) by her gopro, and hurting your self multiple times in the middle of hot desert? Foolhardy/hardcore...I think they mean the same thing......
You handled that like a full trooper. You have great skills and I love you enthusiasm for riding bikes 😊... keep that helmet done up 👍😘
Thank you so much 😀 hehe yeah that was a solid life lesson! Hehe
I wake up with my eyes like that sometimes. Wish I knew what... I know I couldn't handle what you're doing, not even close. I'm really enjoying the detailed experience of being IN the rally with you, with the personal details of what it's like, rather than the superficial crap dished out typically. The more technical and informative, the better for me.
@TheGirlOnABike I was actually at the same Burt Munroe event as you. My first road bike event. Got an adventure bike late last year. Never owned a road legal bike. Had so much fun... glad you enjoyed your trip around south island 😊
One heck of a way to break in a new race bike V.
Glad the the vest is helping to keep you safe.
Your foot is a good example of a vulcanized blade.
Awesome job!
Glad you are Okay Vanessa. Stay safe and keep on keeping on!
I don't think she is OK, she is about to hurt herself in a permanent kind of fashion if you ask me. In her video following this one she mentions that she is happy that her riding is improving! I mean come on, if your riding needs improving you shouldn't be in this type of event...if you ask me. This is for riders who are competent, confident, and highly practiced and skilled. She nothing but a you tube video amateur rider, about to hurt herself...but she will push on, and be and be an inspiration to who ever these people are egging her on in the comments. Motorcycling is extremely dangerous...not just a little bit. An event where riders are dying from heat exhaustion found lying next to their bike....is highly questionable, if that isn't already obvious. One crash after the other....and that is an inspiration? Really, come on...really?
Absolutely amazing how hard you keep pushing. Glad I found your channel 😊
V!! That foot has more colour than a desert sunset 🌇. 😁👍
Legend on a motorbike really. 👏
Poo 💩 updates... classic.🤣😂🤣😂
You are one tough cookie !! much luck for the next few days
Thanks lovely
Wow, helmet getting ripped off was scary. Glad you are eating well, cos they say if you don't eat, you don't shite, and if you don't shite you die. All the best girl.
Dammm tough get off. Looking forward seeing the rest
So impressive, my good, you rip!
I didn't see anything right before you went down the last time, sand is gnarly and I have ZERO interest in riding it lolz. Love the commitment.
Cool that you are participating in such rides.
Hehe thanks, so much fun wooo!
Holly crappie!! did your lid just come off # change that for sure, relieved you and buddy are good to go.
As they say, Vanessa, you're tough as old nails. Big respect for getting over the line. 👏💪🏍💨😃 hopefully, I'll get to ride next year in Bosnia with you guys 😃 Keep 'er lit good luck for the rest of the rally 😊
I realize it's been a bit since you were hurt on in this, video. Seriously hope all is well and no complications. Stomach injuries can be quite stressful and serious. Prayers all is good. For the record I think you are doing a fantastic job! ❤
Thank you, i have recovered well and no lingering complications with my stomach. I really appreciate your kindness and care
Nothing but respect 🤙💪
Wow looks tough hope you’re ok that was a big bang.
That is a massive OUCH!! Vanessa, tears are allowed, happy or sad you have earned them, great content and thank you for the brutal punishment you put yourself through for us all….. I think we can accept the blame for this lol, it’s the least we can do, hopefully one day I’ll make it to Morocco to give it a go, but I’m not as brave as you 😂, take care and rest well 👍🏻
Yep what he said, inspiring to us all, your proper xxx
Well, that helmet, no good at all. You're a lucky girl. Whish you prompt recovery
keep on ROCKIN' I am sure you feel better now .
If I was 40 years younger... I still wouldn't try this- go you!
I hope you iced that foot ASAP. Good luck! Great job! 👍
You are really a tuff lady i am impressed keep going but try to drive safely
😊🌹
Great effort hope your feeling better for the next stage 💪👍
Thanks dude
You are tough as nails!! Well done!!
Aw hehe thanks
Holy crap, you certainly went flying there. 😢
injury asside, that ride looked absolutly badass, especialy the 7:40 part
I know your in really good shape but you were lucky that crash could have been worse you hit hard but thankfully you are ok .. Stay Safe 🤘🏼
Bravo! Tough girl for sure~
Thanks lovely
Be careful, you're a tough cookie but those races are brutal and you don't want to be seriously injured Take care
Thank you, I will definitely be more vigilant in safety check!
Glad to see that you are OK. I think we all want to know what happened to the Helmet?
New channel name.. Girl Off A Bike.. Poo comments HAHAHAHA I LOVE HOW REAL THIS CHANNEL IS xxxx
I'm kind of glad you flew off in sort of loose sand instead of hard rock, but what a smash it was. Even your helmet came off😲How could that happen where it suppose to stay on for protection??? Hopefully medically nothing serious will show up the coming days. 24th halfway.....you're creating some expectations for the Dakar rally here😜 Love the way you took me in to the real 'beauty' off rally racing. But I must say a sandy mustache suits you one way or another😅 Go for it, Girl😎👊
Oh 100% it could have been alot worse and serious injuries but thankfully luck was on my side this day! But thank you so much I mega appreciate your support! Wooo!
Ouch! But you're still in the race and not out. Not buckling up the helmet could have ended worse. Theses things do happen in racing, as you know much better than me. Hope you have better days coming up, Günter/Nürnberg
100% i am not one to give in or give up easily that is for sure! Yes unfortunately mistakes were made and thank you for understanding and for your support, mega appreciate it! Thanks for watching woo!
Vanessa you are a very strong woman.Greetings from Italy.
The helmet was not strapped??
💪
What clasp type does your helmet have to allow that?
Unfortunately human error not manufacturers
Yeah, I saw the follow up wtih the explanation :) I've forgotten in much less stressy situations! @@TheGirlOnABike
I can’t decide if you’re brave or mental 😂
Smashed up on a pushbike and then you throw yourself at a desert 🌵❤️🩹
Well done
Keep going
POOP POOP... Is good to be regular! 😀
Am glad that you were ok, could have been super nasty with the helmet coming off... a lesson to us all to remember to tighten the strap! 🙂
Amazing lady tough as to great to see her proving woman can DO anything they want to ❤
YESSS we can. yey thanks for the support
Good effort...Dig Deep, nothing good is easy.
💯
What a crash😲 but on the bright side you can take comfort in the fact that if you had been a footballer you would still be lying in the desert howling in pain :)
Look after yourself Vanessa. You are an absolute weapon. You deserve your Poo moments😂
Respect.
Glad your OK, could have been so much worse.
Question, how come your helmet came off? M
Thank you me too
Jeez hope you fully recover, looked like a nasty tumble 😮
Thank you, I appreciate it alot !
Helmet not fastened. Crazy. Glad you're ok. Learn from it
Your helmet coming off so easily freaked me out. One rock in the wrong place and we'd have been watching a different video entirely. Hope you're well and no internal damage. Stupid thing to say but Take Care Vanessa 👍🏻
How did your helmet come off?
Unfortunately it must not have been done up correctly, big mistake
OMG I felt that.
What kind of boots do you wear?
I'm in the Alpinestar Tech 7. I find them light weight but super confortable
Oh! and there's surf there!
Yey
Not sure how your helmet came off but damn I hope you're ok! That was a hard Hi-side get off for sure.
Yeah mental error not doing it up. But we all learn. Thanks dude 💖
Yea, what was the reason for the helmet coming off. looks like the straps were loose and not fastened. hope you didnt forget to fasten your helmet properly. I know i've done it thinking about a million things and the adrenalin rush of the race. be safe
Tough cookie😘
Usually the handlebars hitting you that's the painfull bit...I broke my kneecap in two hitting them and never known pain like it.
Two words "helmet strap"... Stay safe out there!
Might want to explain how your helmet came off...not great watching that. 😳 We all hope you're recovering well ❤️🩹
Wow, that was nasty. I tried to figure out what the speed was, but could not see. Do you have an idea? Sitting in a chair watching a screen it all looks like a gentle fall in soft sand, but I know from experience that you can get hurt like that. Looking at a monitor is so deceptive. Thumbs up for pushing on Vanessa.
I would probably guess maybe 60 speed, not hanging about but not full chat as it was pretty undulating and yeah, it's easy to think 'oh soft sand' but I hit a rock or something in the sand which caused a dead stop and my body was taken out by the tower, so it was a big knock. Thanks for the kind encouragement dude
Pitäsköhän se kypärä laittaa oikein kiinni ni vois olla jotain hyötyä siitäkin?
Mistakes were made 🤷♀️
Venessa before you let the clutch out double check you helmet is secured to your head! Your head nearly always comes into contact of something hard in a crash. Stay safe.
Lesson definitely learnt!
Kind of a bad look that it appears your helmet wasnt done up at all, causing it to come off. Should be checked by scrutineering at the start line - easy to forget with so much to remember. Glad you are ok and were able to continue, caught by that soft sand rut eh?
👍🌹
You helmet was the wrong size or it was not tied tight enough.... Consider yourself VERY lucky.
When you fell off that ledge that appeared from nowhere
Don't know what I would of done there sometimes speed can be your friend I would of gassed it & tried to land on the back wheel such hard conditions
If you pause the video it looks like the helmet strap isnt done up, either a mistake or a very bad decision.
It happens so quick. I’m counting my blessings at the moment with 10 stitches in my arm. Thankfully just a flesh wound but bad enough. 🙏
Ouch that's some good sewing!
Did your helmet fell off when you crashed? This is scary! It should fit tight and the strapped firmly. Fortunately you didn’t fall on a rocky session. Go on brave lady!
Yup it did, thankfully no major injuries so im counting my blessings. Thanks for your support wooo!
Ah, I just watched you crash in super slo-mo and I see the helmet strap was not fastened. Oops!
I've done similar things when competing and trying to focus on many different things in a high stress situation.
A checklist would be a smart thing to have, not that I ever think of it...
The helmet coming off? why ? how ? so dangerous
Unfortunately it was very dangerous yes but I am extremely thankful no major injuries came of it
