    Even though I've recently bought a new car (a Toyota Corolla touring sport, seeing as you're asking, Nobby) I'm addicted to your reviews. They're all masterpieces of how to do car reviews that are genuinely helpful while being entertaining. And even if I won't be looking to change my car for three years or so, watching your reviews is a great way of keeping in touch with what's available. Great work. Many thanks.

    Great review as ever Nobby, the thing I like most about your reviews is that you are very in depth about each car you cover. As for the Volvo well even in the North here it's going to be a bit too expensive for me and whilst I am at the present time more of a diesel driver too, I am also a realist in so far as the price of diesel here in the North is going up and showing no signs of reducing so even though I would prefer in 5 years time to remain with diesel I'm starting to think that electric might be a possibility especially as I'm not considering my next move to be for another 5 years minimum so who knows where battery tech will be at that point. My only hope is that despite the cheap running costs of an electric car that the price comes down for all especially if mass adoption is the key aim of the governments and the range goes up because if it's going to take several hours to charge then I want it to be doing a similar distance in range as my diesel Kadjar which is around 600 miles (close to 1000k) and also preferably in as short a time as possible and that tech at the minute seems to be non-existent. As for the car itself it looks very well finished but even as by your own key observations there are better options for similar or less money.

      @NobbyOnCars  Před 2 lety +1

      They’ve just announced a smaller battery version that starts from €45k earlier today!

    • @stevencampbell1150
      @stevencampbell1150 Před 2 lety

      @@NobbyOnCars that's still too expensive and with a smaller battery it's going to go even less distance meaning more time wasted charging. Y'see that's my main problem with electric cars, you're paying a fortune for a car that tho' cheaper to run will go less distance on its chosen method of propulsion which in this case is electric than the equivalent petrol or diesel version so apart from the environmental reasons and the cheaper fuel why would be my question. Like I said earlier tho' I will admit I am tempted, until the price comes down I'll be sticking with diesel.

    Excellent video and excellent car too which unfortunately for me is let down hugely by its lack of range.
    It's super frustrating because this is a brilliantly designed vehicle but only 180 miles of range (if you're lucky) is simply not good enough.
    I recently bought a Kia Soul EV ...ok not directly comparable I know but it returns 250 real world miles after a full charge and it's about half the price of this XC40...!!.
    Why Volvo can't provided a kind of ''super ECO mode'' which extents the range when desired I just don't know.
    Or is that because they want to leave the door open for the larger, longer range, even more powerful (and expensive) models to come...!!..?.

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  Před 2 lety

      I don’t think so, they’ve focused on going fully electric relatively soon but I’m sure lightning fast cars are not their priority. They’ve announced a single motored version of this now too which is a lot cheaper but still does a similar range.

    • @XENONEZZ2
      @XENONEZZ2 Před 2 lety

      @@NobbyOnCars I see...so even with less power and a single motor the range is about the same...!! I'm afraid the cynic in me still thinks the larger EV models to come will have more power and crucially have the desperately needed extra range too...expect very high price tags.
      Would anyone want to pay maybe £80k for something slower than this X40 ?...I think not.

    Has to be the best designed 'compact' SUV in any 'guise'. Like comments before petrol still but it is obvious Volvo going full EV as planned. Here is the lesson that EV's can designed well. Enough of the jelly mould Tesla nonsense. Just stop it! If EV's are to become the default choice simply design as standard. As in the Corsa and 208. The silliness of the Zoes, Honda e and the like will be consigned to design folly. Back to the Volvo XC40, one of the best designed and built vehicles available. Thank you for an excellent, real world review.
