- Welp, I'm finally the owner of a 2nd Gen Toyota Tundra! This truck has always been on my radar, but I've never really made the move on one until now. This one owner TRD Pro with 28K miles is pretty clean! There is some work to be done in the future, but for now, ima enjoy this thing!

Beautiful truck man I love voodoo blue. The bezel looked pretty scratched so deff a ProTech screen protectors, I'm not a fan of the silver side steps, I painted the Toyota black on the front grill over the grey on my Calvary Blue tacoma pro I liked the look a bit better just me though
@@TRDJon clean up the rust and wool wax. No more worries. Did it with my FJ and about to send out my GX550. I know you’re not in the rust belt, but the rust never stops. I know it’s not a build suggestion but probably one of the most important things you should take care of first.

I bought a 2018 a couple years ago with 2600 miles on it. I snagged it immediately since it had such low miles. They feel different than the turbo engine truck for sure, but I definitely think the advantages of the 2nd gen out weigh the 3rd gen. The turning radius alone is worth so much. One thing I've been doing with mine is getting rid of all the chrome in the interior and also the glossy blacks because I hate it when I get sun reflections in my eyes. I already put an RCI skidplate on it and a Fumoto oil drain valve. Mine is a double cab with the 6.5 bed so my next addition is probably going to be a camper shell and mattress setup for trips out west in the middle of nowhere.
Jon, I have a 2020 Trd Pro Tundra crew cab in Army Green. I also have a Pedal Commander. It is plug and play and my god does it play. It has several modes including a valet mode which can all be accessed from the phone app. It's an easy set up.
The sport setting is more than enough for me but there is also a sport plus that will snap your neck. The PCommander doesn't mess with your ECU. It just changes your throttle mapping. It's worth getting. Or you can just use your tow mode on the Tundra for stronger throttle response. Either way congrats on your keeper. That engine sound never gets old.
6:50 try turning on the tow/haul button. Toyota detuned the pedal for normal driving to help mpg's, which makes it feel sluggish.
But once you turn on the tow/haul button, it reprograms the pedal and makes it into a monster, especially if you shut the traction control off as well 😉
Ahhhh kinda like a sport mode?
@TRDJon I just said the same thing and, YES, like sport mode. (Won't use 6th gear though so turn off tow mode for long drives at speed).

When I get a tundra, that's the exact year I want. Love the front end of that.
Better off getting either a 2018 or a 2020-21. 2019 they eliminated the trans cooler and 20-21 they updated the keyless entry/smart handles etc. 2019 was an awkward year.
A month ago today, i traded in my Cav Blue Pro Tacoma on a 2020 Army Green Pro Tundra w/ 21,700 on the clock and haven't looked back. That 5.7 is money. And now I'm subscribed due to your latest purchase. Congrats, killer Tundra! Shes a keeper!

Love it! I have a 21 Tundra TRD Pro and love it. 18k miles. Bought new in April 2022. Should’ve bought a lottery ticket when I found it.
When the 22s were announced I told my Brother in Law to get a 21 or 22 but see what you like. He found a 21 Army Green TRD and he’s still smiling! Good add to the channel. Old and new is the way to go! Congratulations!!!

I get it, those trucks are literally solid af but between the scratches on the gauges, the wear on the seats, the rust on the frame/suspension, the old school radio etc, I just don't think I could make that switch back. Maybe if it was a 2021 in primo condition but that's just me. I know you've been looking for this exact truck for a long time so I'm definitely happy for you. NOW that you it, I expect to see one BADASS BUILD. 3" long travel, rock sliders, 35s or 37s and new bumpers. Don't have to go nuts on bumpers but there's some very clean minimalist (OEMPlus) looking gear to upgrade to!

There's no beating the 5.7L V8 Tundra, especially in the TRD PRO trim. Keep that beast forever, you'll never get a near-new condition one like it.
I upgraded from 20 Trd Pro Tundra to 23 1794 Trd Offroad. I couldn’t imagine going back to an outdated sluggish truck. Only thing I do miss is roar of v8 and turning radius.
Yea the lack of tech it’s insanely noticeable.
Hey man if you want better throttle response, put it in "tow" mode. But be ready next time you step on the gas if you're behind someone because in tow mode, it launches. But it won't go to 6th gear so for long hauls, deselect tow mode.
Congratulations on a very nice truck. I wanted a Vodoo but ended up in a 2017 Quicksand. I am up to 128k miles and been trouble free. Just maintenance items. And zero rattles or interior issues like you had on your platinum. They are definitely rock solid.

This makes me miss my 2010 Tundra SR5 TRD Offroad. Only vehicle I ever owned that never had a single issue. Wish I kept it and installed one of the aftermarket 46 gallon tanks I see available nowadays.

2nd gen tundra with trd exhaust, chiefs kiss. This combo is my favorite factory exhaust/ sound.
Good choice! 2nd gen is where it's at. Even have a buddy with a 23 platinum that he traded in his 2016 1794 for, and he constantly says he misses it.
The way it stands out in a sea of black and white and gray trucks and the gray sky. I was looking for a voodoo blue tundra for a long time but the prices kept me away. I instead got a 21 Ram. If I ever win a good chunk of cash, I'd put it towards a used 2nd gen

Pedal commander will help that laggy throttle response…trust me.
I have a 16 tundra Trd Pro Crewmax in mag grey and that has made the world of difference. I rock sport mode with plus 4…money!!!

@@TRDJon Be careful with the pedal commander, they tried to go up and up with Banks and failed badly.
The 2nd gen is such a good truck. If you call yourself a Toyota fan, you just gotta get one at some point. You picked a sick one thats for sure. I love mine.

The 2.5 refresh and 3rd gen both look nice.the interior on the 2.5 is no bueno compared to the 3rd gen but I would definitely pick the 2.5 over the 3rd gen. Looking forward to seeing what you’ll do to this truck.

Pretty sure you have a 36 or 38 gallon tank. Love the truck! The 2nd gen Tundra has got to be one of the greatest trucks ever made.
I had my 3rd gen for 5 years and you definitely have to give it like 60% throttle when not in tow haul mode, to get to 40
You can just buy a radio from a newer model entune , and get the programming done for it that way it works with your cluster to work and Wala, you got android auto Apple CarPlay

Welcome to the 5.7 club. I just got a 1 owner 2nd gen ‘08 sequoia limited with 61k miles on it and I am in love with this thing. Make sure you give Tow Haul mode and sport mode a try.

577!!! I have 18 crewmax tundra limited and when I fill up I get 410! With normal unleaded… I wonder if that makes a difference 🤔🤔 might want to check your brakes… mine are pretty responsive../ I love you got that second gen… if I’m cruising on a decent drive I get 17-18.5 mpg also no heated seats on the 19 pro? My 18 has heated seats… I do love the colors.. mine is mesquite brown… I bought her 2 tears ago and she had 17k miles… 28k right now. Love my tundra! The voodoo blue is clean!!

I had a 2020 trd pro and went to a 2022 trd pro, at times I think I should have stayed with the 2020 but then I look at that 2020 interior and I’m like no thanks, styling on the 2022 is nice and 2022 is so fun to drive! 38k miles with no issues
The new generation Tundra is just okay, doesn’t look bad and I tried to like it but the 2nd generation Tundra just looks more like a truck and who doesn’t love that V8 but hate it at the same time because of the mpg 😅

The 2nd gen Tundras are great. Put it in tow/haul with the windows down and just give it the beans. Hilariously fun truck. 5.7l v8 with 4.30 rear end... Its fun. I think it needs a posi in the rear end and it would just be that much better.

I’m an aggressive driver, been through 3 sets of OEM rotors until 100k miles. Upgraded to front/rears Stop Tech Cryo Treated rotors and HD pads, I’m still using the same rotors at 235k

Awesome Jon I am definitely a fan of the 2nd gen TRD Pro in Voodoo Blue, I also like the Army Green as well. Even though the infotainment system is way behind the 3rd gen it’s more of a reliable vehicle and there are tons of 200k to million mile Tundras out there today

Traded my 2019 Toyota Tundra for a Ford Raptor. Do miss the tundra some days just for the simplicity and never had a problem. Had to install a pedal commander when I owned the Tundra.
