Really forward thinker, truly inspirational, outstanding person, everything he said is absolutely unique. I wish I knew him! Randy and people like him should rule the world so they could create a healthy and caring place for the rest of us to live in.
He might have lost the battle with death, but in life he's passed with honors! leaves the rest of us to wonder how we'll measure up. Farewell Randy.

And this video is so inspiring but sad in its own way. I wish there were more people like Randy in this world. I always always cry everytime I see him bring that big cake for his wife.

This man is MY KINDA' GUY.
He's as cool as it gets, to be honest.
If all of you are in question, THIS is "COOL".
I mean, the man knew of his imminent/impending death, and he was not phased in the least.
Not just THAT, but he was OUT HAVING FUN, during such times.
How much cooler can you GET, really?
I mean he's a cool person in terms of his CHARACTER AND calm.
    Wow.

I have a novel idea, how about we stop quibling over who's theory of afterlife is superior to each other, and actually do something useful like pay attention to what Randy Pausch's advice is, and therefore benefit society. Having listened to his words have inspired me to be a better person. My heart goes out to the Pausch Family, I am sure it is still a difficult time for them. May his children be reminded of the man their father was. RIP Randy Pausch.

I think that's very sad too Dittomom... People just don't understand that as Christians we know what's up and we care about other people and that's why we feel a certain way when someone denies God and dies. All they keep doing is calling us cowards and saying we're stuck up and all that. They just don't see what we do, and that truly is sad. Poor Mr. Pausch... It sucks he died, he had such love for life.

Everyday in every country, almost if not in every town a child feels the love for its family, or a couple in love just watching the sunset. And this is not just in the west world. Its everywhere, and you have to be really cynical to shut it out. Love and happiness is bigger than hate and sadness!

The bottom line is that no one knows what will happen to us after we die. Some people believe that we will meet the master of the universe and it will judge us, but they have no evidence to support their claim. The simple point is that this kind of thing is beyond the realm of what a human being can know and therefore must be left to faith. Those that believe that they will meet their maker and be judged by it, cannot know that this will happen. They simply believe it so.

@tuzmor How is happiness being disconnected? Looking back on my life, the moments I am at my happiest are when I am with others. Happiness is not the rejection of everything that is wrong with the world, but embracing everything that is right. The world is not perfect, nor does it need to be for me to not suffer or not be happy. I can better my own situation and the situation of those around me; why is that not cause for celebration? That I am alive & healthy is reason enough for me to celebrate

@questingQuentin Ok I watched another clip and he does make mention of Moses and the Promised Land, but I don't know if he is doing it from simply a historical perspective or as a Christian. His teaching seems rather humanistic. Do not place your hopes in the future of mankind on Earth, but rather in life after death with God.

I think Foxtrot means is that although Randy's lecture was exceptional and inspiring, it was mostly autobiographical. Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. But would it be of much value if he wasn't dying? Probably not.

I understand there is more life after death. I understand the importance of many faiths, not just Christians, in preparing for death. The question remains, why if living is such a sin would God place us here in the first place? After all, the Angel's were also tested and failed. Such was the case with Lucifer. So please, his message was not that you are saved by living well, his message was to live longer the life that God or however we want to call him, gave us. God gave us this life.

Positive thinking is great, but his statement about beating "the Reaper" by living well is worldly wisdom at best. As a Christian, I/we know that salvation cannot be earned, it is the gift of God through Christ--but in order to receive it we have to believe in Him, not in our own goodness. Even convicted felons can receive salvation, if their repentance is true. I don't know if this guy was a believer or not... Know Jesus and you will have eternal life in Heaven--it is the Christian perspective.

3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Everyone is entitled to believe what they want and have their own opinions. Randy did suffer, but I do not think your statement is true, because Jesus suffered for the sins of others, while Randy and all of mankind die of ancestry sin (Adam & Eve). My point, though, is that its not about how much one suffer's, but rather if they make the suffering worth something and I think Christ and Randy both were successful in making it worth while.

Shhh. I wonder why debates like this can burn in such a way. You have a right not to believe, everybody respects that. None of us can prove the existence of God or his non-existence. I see you are interested in science. Here's a small thing for you: once Einstein said that a man can possess only 1% of all the knowledge that there is; if he uses his brain to all limits. God can exist in the remaining 99%. You make an absolute statement with a mind that has boundaries.

  • @halftimesportscards
    @halftimesportscards Před 15 lety

Why are you trying to tarnish a man's image to people who may have different beliefs than him? His beliefs had nothing to do with the motivation he gave us in lectures on how to reach for our dreams.
You speak of God not being real as fact. It's an opinion, with the only fact being that you gave up the quest at a young age. You may be bitter at Christians because most have issues thinking they are God themselves, but nobody should condemn you for your beliefs. Same goes for you with them.
