Can I do this with any type of chili peper 😉 ? Like a Serrano
eddie jasso yeah probably
@@eddiejasso752 I did it with Fresno chilis
I had to return to say i made this recipe when I was sick and it cured me! I absolutely love this recipe and even add it to different dishes because it actually enhances my recipes!!Thank You Chef John!
I’ve made these about ten times since finding this recipe. Never using raw jalapeños again, these are amazing on tacos, nachos, burrito bowls, everything!!
Do they smell bad when opening the jar? Pickled radishes a while ago and smells like a jar of facts every time!
@@JuzzysAdventures it just smells like vinegar to me
The "you didn't do anything wrong.. this time" got me
I did the recipe. A jalapeno marinade that blows your head off is a miss. Absolutely not the case here. I can taste the fruitiness of the jalapeno itself. Actually not hot at all but delicious.
Update: 29/12/2022, I just made an other batch of jalapeno marinade. love it. Thank you Chef John.
everything you do makes me happy.
If you instead put the jalapenos in the jar and then pour the boiling brine over, they will retain their color and their crunch. Let them stay for a week or so in the fridge for maximum taste :)
Tahnk you so much, it's even better
I have to wait a week??? I dunno if I can. I tasted one straight out of the brine and already know I won't be able to keep my hands off the stuff. Now ... what to do about burning hands from contact with the jalapenos during chopping and deseeding. *wry smiley*
Whole pepper?
@@fendersmb no. Everthing chef John says, only pour the boiling brine over the sliced jalapeños after you stuff them in the Jar. Don’t boil the jalapeños if you want to retain their crunch.
you definately forgot to mention picking your nose or eye after cutting the jalapenos is great fun
Jenkinz2009 I forgot and touched my face all over and it hurts so bad
fresh lemon juice will remove the heat from your fingers
Jenkinz2009 🤣🤣🤣😄😄😄👍
Yeah and taking a piss is great fun too if you're a male after cutting jalapeño or some other kind of hot peppers 🌶
I've never had a problem with pepper juice in the nose. And I hope I never do.
I used to boil my brine but these days I just wash and pack my vegetable of choice into a jar +garlic (aromatics if you like). Boil some water from the kettle and add a bit to it to some salt (rock salt) to dissolve it a tad. Then I add disttilled vinegar to the jar (about less than halfway) the salt and water mixture add a bit more of the water from a kettle then top off with regular water.
Faster works everytime. If people want precise measurements then find a recipe online because I ain't your guy for such things.
Awesome recipe!!! Used this to preserve a whole bunch of home grown jalapenos. Quick easy and delicious. Great job
Delicious. I made these tonight. Will be on my regular list for sure. Thank you
Thank you so much for your recipes. This is the 3rd time I have made them. Love them! No need to buy from store. I bought 10 large jalapeño and some pickling cucumbers to make 2 batch each. $3.00 spent. By the way I used only 2 tbsp of sugar. Also did not follow direction once and boiled one batch for the 10 minutes. Wow did those come out hot!
Followed your recipe this weekend, and I along with others at the BBQ gobbled them up! Thanks!
so how many people had "burning anus" syndrome? hahaha
Nice! Exactly what I needed to know. Now, that Colindar. Love it!
this turned out to be easier then I thought! thank you! also, they are greatercorganic home grown ! the best compost is vermicompost!
I did this as a Christmas gift and it was a hit everybody loved it thanks guys so much
Seriously, everyone should like and favorite this video! Educational and entertaining! LOVE IT!!
For some reason, I always watch your videos late at night/ in the wee hours of the morning. they always make me crazy hungry. and I never have any food to eat :(
I made these with Indian green chillies they felt like a party in my mouth
I loved it ❤️
Question, after making these jalapeno rings, do you have to keep them refrigerated or will they last for some period non-refrigerated because it's vinegar based
Hi from New Zealand! It is pretty warm here now, (24c) and my Jalapenos are coming into fruit big style. This recipe is nice and easy. Thank you Chef.
I don't even like jalapenos, but I love watching your videos, John!
You, my good sir, have the voice of an angel.
I just like to take the old juice from store bought jalapenos and when Im doing eating those save the juice and put my own peppes in that and let them sit for over 30 days in the frig. Works out pretty good.
Great tip!!
I bought jalapeños and wanted to see how you pickle them and I thought it was only to slice them and putting them in a jar plus adding vinegar,?but I’m glad I looked up your channel and you thought me.You are incredible!. Thank you
Thanks for the recipe. I made these and they were good. I liked the oregano flavor.
WOW... best idea ever. I LOVE pickled jalapenos.
Great video 👍. Lacto-fermented jalapenos are great as well.
Thanks Chef John for sharinG another awesome recipe!!! I have lots of Jalapenos growinG in my garden and I came to your channel to see how you can yours!!! And, YeSss I will most definitely be usinG your recipe thiS year! Plz take care sweet soul...you totally Rock!✌🥰🌹🌶🌶🌶🌹
Love your preparation and presentation 👍👍
I made these today and it was fantastic! Thanks for sharing this video with us. Oh, and I used rice vinegar... It worked out for me just fine. =]
We NEED a LONG TERM Pickling Video Chef John!!!
This is soo goooooddd!! 100/10
I thought i couldn't do it I'm terrible at cooking 😂
Loved your pickled peppers recipe its delicious..can I use this recipe with red onions
This is interesting I'm gonna have to try this. Thanks for sharing
great video, can u plz guide how long can we refrigerate this pickle
Fantastic recipe, thanks for sharing.
I have to try this, I can feel the tingeling already
@datacash hey just saw your question and the jars Chef John used in this video usually are called "mason jars" and the brand name one usually finds in the grocery store is called "Ball or Kerr" jars. You have to purchase the jars, then separately the lids for sealing them if you are planning on using a proper canning method.
These are great. Thank you.
I tried it and it taste amazing.
Chiles en escabeche!!! Amaizing!!!!
CJ your a champ!
I am sending some of my family made worestershire sauce to a friend in the US
i will also make these and vacuum pack them - it will make his year!
Hi John!
Is the sugar a must!
I love jalapeno, so this looks good!
I love more heat, so I won't rinse, but I want to know about the sugar,
Thank you!
Mmmmmmmmm. Gonna make me some now. Thanks Chef!
Can I leave out the sugar? If there's one thing I hate, it's a sweet pickle. How crisp are these jalapenos, by the way? I love mine to have a nice crunch to them. Mushy jalapenos is always a depressing time.
Thankyou so much!!
ahhhhh looks delicious :) can't wait to try
dang this video is so 2012 and I love it
all I do is top off storebought pickled jalapenos with freshly cut ones.preserves them but they keep their crunch and flavour and heat.
I love pickled jalapeños. Mine were good for a while. I didn't use them all right away, but I used all vinegar.
Wow nice video, ill try this jalapeno, I love chillies
Looks great. I'm storing fresh jalapeno's from the garden. None of the pickling videos talk about long term storage. I assume if I get multiple jars, I can give them a hot water bath & they'll store.
i loveeee this recipe. i even did it with some hot cherry peppers. Now my question is, can i do this same exact recipe and then can them in a water bath?
Ok, just gave that a shot. First time ever growing jalapeños. I have red and green mixed together and they are smoking hot. I do hope the brine Mellows them out a little :)
Can we also do this with cucumber ??? And also this will last for how many days n in what temperature should i keep it after its made like in fridge or just in kitchen cupboard
ashley den
Store in fridge. There is a cold pack process where they can keep for several weeks.
I'll never buy the jarred stuff again!!! So easy to make. Why didn't I research this sooner. Thanks, Chef John for the recipe and for making it so doable.
i really love your videos!
You are so good at cutting
Hello Chef John, i love the pot, would u mind telling me what type of pot that is? Steel or cast iron??
is this the same ones used by those hot dog kiosks? the minced type? thx for the video
Loving the thin slice.
Great recipe!! Thanks!
Vinegar, water, pinch of garlic. Put in a jar, and refrigerate. That's all I do.
There's no real need to boil, unless you want them the same day. About 4 days later, they're done. But you can obviously eat them whenevet.
I sometimes even use an old jalapeno jar. You'd never know the difference. So easy.
Ya the sugar was totally unnessary. Wound up tasting so sweet...
i like your voice and presentation. great job!
Will these turn out kind of mushy, or crunchy? I vastly prefer pickled jalapenos that have a crunch to them, and won't just melt in your mouth.
Christoffer Hødal same vote here
Christoffer Hødal I eat banana peppers they are crunchy really good
+Christoffer Hødal Crunchy! Even the week old leftover scraps that sit in the bottom of the jar.
+Jordan Munoz Maybe Christoffer would like a mix of habanero with the banana to make them spicy and crunchy?
If you like crunchy hot jalapeños buy TRAPPEY’s super crisp
Is this the same kind of pickles I'd find at a Taqueria? thanks!
Of course! I use it!
I love it 😍
does chef john have a video explaining the pickling process?
Can't wait to try these out !!! I do have a request for sweet and sour chicken please :)
CHEF JOHN YOU ARE THE MAN FOR PREDICTING THE GIANTS VICTORY!
I don't rinse, I got this just how I like it, never buying the mushy stuf again. Thanks so much for this great recipe.
1 tsp. sugar, 2 Tbs. salt, 2/3 cup white vinegar, 2/3 cup water, 5 sliced jalapenos, 1/4 sliced onion, 8 carrot slices, small pinch oregano. boil, add everything, cool, put everything in a big mason jar, cool completely, cover and refrigerate. good and spicy. I eat them with my burritos- refried bean, mexican rice, (taco meat or rotisserie chicken and hot sauce), cheese, rolled in a big softshell, put on foil with a spray of oil, put in 350 oven for 25 minutes. Have with sour cream, guac, shredded lettuce with ranch dressing and pickled jalapenos. It's hard to eat the whole thing.
waoh you are incredible.... i really loved the way you explained... you should be teacher
I love love love love love LOVE pickled jalapenos n i love love love love love love love love LOVE Chef John even more for making this video :D
Cool easy recipe. I am bringing this to mexican night at my university!
Thank you cheff.
I'm fermenting a hot sauce with jalapenos and I needed a way to use up the rest of these!
The hot sauce I'm doing has garlic, onions, mango juice, sweet bell peppers and jalapenos. Should turn out well!
Update: These turned out delicious! I used 2 tbsps of honey and three cloves of garlic and they are yummy. I mean, they blast the jarred stuff out of the water.
cassl14
The final product did not taste like honey. I would make them again (probably will since I'm growing my own jalapenos)...
cassl14
Ah! The reason I used honey is that my household doesn't eat granulated sugar (except when making desserts), so I had honey on hand too.
The vinegar tasting brine sounds delicious too.

Can't. Stop. Watching.
Just subbed today :)
Wow. Yummy. All of it.
Awesome!
any tip on how to keep the heat of the jalapeños?
Great video ill try this thxx
@gerry3x this is a common pickling brine, I do the same thing with red onions for an amazing salad or taco topping.
I wonder can I do this with Serrano peppers also
Nice knife skill.
Live for your voice!
Looks lovely - can u tell me where u brought the jar from or what that type of jar is called please. I like to make pickles and have a similar recipe but it includes onions scotch bonnet peppers carrots, I never seem to have the right jar for them. Thanks
@YoBootyStinks ive never had that problem i boil it because im re-using jars such as a tomato sauce jar. its only for a few seconds (top and jar separated). i think the only way possible for it to break is if your have the lid on allowing pressure to build inside the jar. (^^tad)
I just eat those by itself without putting it on anything because they are delicious 😋
How long will these last? And how do you prolong their life if you want to store them in your pantry?
Thanks for mentioning the portions.
If I want to make the hotter & spicier version of this pickle, is it okay to use much less sugar?
Joe about long term storage?
Can you use the jalapeño that has been in the freezer?
Hey Chef, thanks for all your wonderful videos... quick question? I know you said these are best used in a few days? Would they last say up to two weeks or so using this method? Thanks, LOVE your stuff!!
U still here after 9 yes and remember him?
Damn 9 years ago
I wish to have my future husband enjoy every meal I ever prepare for him. I wish for my kids to think I am the best cook in the whole world and to love all of my meals.
Thank you for pronouncing jalapeño correctly. Nothing irks me more than people that say "jalapeenio". There are zero words in the Spanish language that make the eeee sound! 😉👍
I picked a hand full of Jalapeno peppers from my garden and would like to store them in slices like the ones purchase from the store in jars as you have done. How much sugar, vinegar, and water did you use of each??? I have about 19 Jalapeno peppers to jar. We like to put the slices on salads, and in wraps.
My new favorite pickle
I used the dill picking food wishes recipe for pepper's amazing
That brine is fine for sauerkraut pickled onions asparagus etc amazing salt brine and dill garlic and some pepper or picking spice beautiful
