We have had some comments on this video instigated by a third party on CZcams, which we would like to address briefly here.
1. We welcome criticism; all passions benefit from a multitude of voices, and criticism helps us do our job better. However, we do not condone personal abuse, particularly when that abuse stems from a difference in gender, background, race, religion etc. Life is stressful enough at the moment without our employees and associates logging in to find horrible and highly personal comments from someone they have never met or had any contact with. We hope everyone can agree about this.
2. All of our branded content and promotional videos are clearly marked as such.
3. Although it isn't directly relevant to this video, it is being mentioned by some commenters so: we absolutely support the lockdown in place by the UK government regarding coronavirus. Cycling is explicitly permitted by the regulations in place at the time of writing and we are abiding by them at all times. We do not view cycling as an inherently dangerous activity, and by following social distancing at all times we have never placed ourselves or others at risk, and we are riding with extra care in order not to place the NHS under any strain. Moreover, it should not be assumed that videos were filmed on the same day as they were published as we film ahead of time in order to reduce strain on our small team.
We hope the above makes sense, and we'd like to thank all of our magazine readers, website visitors and CZcams subscribers for their support during the current coronavirus crisis. We feel that our aim - to inspire, inform and entertain cyclists about their passion - is more important than ever at the moment, and we'll continue to try our hardest to deliver in these difficult times.
Right, so you 'support lockdown' but your other presenter Michelle goes out for 3 hour rides to test a power meter?? Ridiculous. Go watch Hambini's video: czcams.com/video/sTdaJCLLnyc/video.html
I don’t recall Hambini instigating or coordinating a vandetta, guess people are mature enough to understand the poor quality of your Engineering-science. You are using his (really) questionable language to hide a global technical non-sense from 2 journalists and one guy doing some basic aerowork. Now is is "rude" to anyone missleading cyclists, male, female, person or brand, not exclusively to your journalist.
On the lockdown, you really need to review your common sense, training roughly 10hrs / week since the 23rd March as your journalist did IS irresponsable. GCN is for example really supporting proper lockdown. Shame on you
Who's laughing now?
What a poor excuse. Put better content instead. Channel Unfollowed just because of 1 incompetent lady, sad.
No, it absolutely does not make sense. And you have been called out by Hambini. You have started your own downfall by being everything you accuse Hambini of. Typical dysfunctional antifa-rhetoric. Good riddance I say!
This "aerocoach" don't have a clue
So low level. Split aerstreems 😂😂😂 crap
“The velodrome is a very nice place to do aero testing... the results here closely match the results outside” what did i just hear? Total waste of time!
That’s what happens when you have a physiology practitioner pawning themself off as an “aero” expert. LOL
It’s at least a place where things are consistent. There are no other variable than the helmet itself.
You are correct though, it’s nothing like being outside.
What specific difference do you think matters? The reduce range of yaw angles? This data is still useful for anyone who tends to compete in short (fast) TTs or who is very fast at long TTs or who competes in low wind situations (most road cyclists). Might not be good data for a triathlete (typically more exposed locations, later int he day, slower speeds)
Why is it wrong. Except the yaw angle i don't see anything wrong with track testing. But if you are a good racer (if not then this video is not for you) that yaw is pretty negligeable.
Hambini sends his regards
The Dr. has his Doctorate in Exercise physiology and kinematics, the closest he got to being an aerodynamicist is his high-school math and science course!
It's sad the bike industry is full of craps.
he's just made up a story
Very disturbing that Cycling Weekly gives AeroCoach Dr B Xavier Disley credibility as he has no training or degrees in Engineering , real slap in the face to Degreed engineers !
And any second year Aerospace or Mechanical Engineer that studies at University knows there is no "real world " air flow or disturbance in a Velodrome.
And the tech editor Michelle Arthurs-Brennan is a Journalist by training and is a deer in the headlight to Aero Coach and agrees with him endlessly.
Just shows her complete incompetency as a Tech Editor !
University of Iowa , USA BSME
@@berntgroeneng And then an individual who could have set right the "pseudo-science" presented here is banned from commenting from the word go. Wonder if CW did that at the request of Dr Disley who has been "exposed" previously by that individual? Then CW journos complain because they get insulted (see Twitter storm elsewhere)
Not saying you're exactly wrong.
However Ross Brawn had an engineering apprenticeship and Rory Byrne was trained as a chemical engineer. They went on to design some of the best F1 cars of all time. They knew aerodynamics from on hands on experience and real world training.
@@FLMKane I agree, a degree is not necessarily the sign of competence. However, lack of competence openly displayed with lack of education is disturbing for a so called expert.
Ross Brown was milling mechanic before he joined F1, then got a job as a milling mechanic at Williams. He was good at he did and showed aptitude for other areas of F1 and in span of six years or so went on to help with design of another F1 car, became a principal.
Two differentiating part of that story is that he started low and got high in a highly technical field and didn't state clearly wrong ideas to his customers (being the team, drivers, ...). Secondly in his case F1 is highly technical front, one person isn't in charge of aerodynamics, engine, ... it's a collaboration; whereas it doesn't take much order bunch of wheels from China and stick your brands on them and say you're expert. Specially in these times when people buy into everything they see or hear without proper investigation.
5yrs old frenchie sent me here to unsubscribe!
who else came here from @Hambini site? lol!
monzadh well Dr Hambini has just helped promoting this vids
Hambini is the best.
Freedom of speech...free Hambini !
Unsubscribed
Yep. I came for a good laugh
Seems like these people don't know what they are talking about.. its all marketing
yea and so is every other post they have ever done. its kind of what they do.
Hambini (age 5) ripped Benedict apart he has not a clue what he is talking about. But unfortunately, Michele /cycling had youtube remove it 🙄
What about a decent bottom bracket for power efficiency; you could ask what's his name... 🤣 🤣
I'm not sure who believes the results of these tests, the validity of the results are in serious question due to comments made by the "expert"
I was here because of Hambini. Thumb down for you guys.
I'm no doctor but how does the results in a Velodrome match well to the results outdoors when it comes to aerodynamics? UNSUBSCRIBED!!!!!!!!!!
christopher favor Specialized need your money
@@ItsMinarmy 100% , I think the money people spend on these snake oil products should go to a proper bike fit instead.
Are the basic principles of aerodynamic drag different in a velodrome than on the road? The only major difference that comes to mind is yaw angle caused by wind direction. However they did simulate different yaw angles by having the riders turn their heads.
@@simonr7097 Air flow outdoors is inconsistent at best.
The testing parameters are absolutely abysmal. Is head height controlled? Are elbows held rigidly? What a joke. No more genuine than American Wrestling
OMG what dreadful testing, have you every heard of wind? Talk about a blatant marketing video, paid product placement by any chance? Do you really think Joe public falls for this type of review....clueless, cycling weekly no more for me
So all wind tunnel testing is worthless because it does not feature irregular and unpredictable wind like in the real world? How are we supposed to get accurate aero measurement outdoors?
This video is total bs. Hambini is correct. And no it’s not useful it’s misleading
Freedom of speech...Free Hambini !
The fastest helmet is the one on the head of the fastest rider.
Paul how ignorant
@@MichaelGervase technically correct. If you put the guidance system from an missile in a car it doesn't make the car faster...
@@timballam3675 you are missing the point of the video
@@MichaelGervase you obviously missed aerodynamics 101
Tim Ballam I’m not trying to argue with you I’m just trying to say that why would cycling weekly make a video about this if what Paul said is right
Free Hambini
They have no idea what they are talking about
Why is Hambini banned, why are you suing him? Weasel move.
because there a load of gob shites
Because he did a video with GCN lol
Hehe, I had no idea about that story :) Although I have seen Hambini not being a fan of Aerocoach :)
Thomas Hemming Larsen Because Hambini is a sexist now apparently.... 🤦♂️🙄
@@3dr1ch the way things are hell be accused of white supremacy
So the non aero helmet was second fastest , ffs
so at 5:12 you say that you need vents at the front / high pressure zone to make the helmet faster, and then at 5:46 "fully closed option will obviously be the fastest". so which is it?
Michele says that its faster with it closed, then Xavier reaffirms that the helmet is faster with the smooth cover open at 7:05. I recon that Xavier being the aeroguy here, is correct.
@@Celciusify Don't think Xavier knows what hes talking about
@@barefootdogwalker1402 I'd bet the closest Xavier ever got to anything related to aerodynamics is probably physics class in High School.
Disappointed! Watched Hambini and will now stop watching Cycling Weekly. Best wishes
Cycling Weekly, is it true you ban aerodynamic experts from commenting on your aerodynamic testing videos? If yes, why would you do that?
These people have no qualifications on the subject matter. Could the results have been bought and paid for 🤔
It's always good to get a second opinion - Have you contacted Hambin? I know he's very good at the aerodynamics - Or don't you want to consult with people into real pro cycling.
This video is in the « shit bag » category
I don't know what is worse. The 'expert' stating an enclosed velodrome is like the outdoors, or the fact that the 'tech' writers just looked like a pair of nodding dogs swallowing the nonsense he fed them.
Did make me laugh that the baseline helmet was second best.
Love how the statement “been out for a while” even “used by Fabian cancellara”. Would have love to see more recent aero helmets use against the specialize. Like the kask Utopia etc.
Why were you riding during a nationwide lockdown?
The movie was released 22nd March. It could easily have been shot one month before that.
@@Knud451 She has been posting her rides on Strava with names identifying them as filming for Cycling Weekly (she has now made her account private, presumably so the police can't see it).
@@minnsminns thanks. I thought he was referring to the video.
Wasn't the last aero road bike champ the scott foil? I would like to see that used as the base bike and throw in the top aero of specialized, bmc, trek, ect.
Aero bikes from major companies (Madone, Venge, SystemSix) have been experimented enough.
Personally more interested in seeing a comparative test of newer aero and non-aero bikes that have not yet been subject of such tests, like:
Fuji Transonic 1.1,
Felt AR Advanced,
Focus Izalco Max,
Cannondale SuperSix Evo,
Orbea Orca OMX,
Scott Addict,
BH G8,
Lapierre Aircode,
Specialized Tarmac SL7 (if released).
Would like to see how they mach up against one of the popular aero bikes.
Can you point me to these tests you refer to?
How can it be compared with the outdoors? There is no wind in a velodrome? Jesus people.....get with the program!
I gotta agree with Hambini on this one, changing too many variables at once, leads to in-concise conclusions, therefore this is all marketing and what it seems to also be a paid promotion via aerocoach and a biomechanic.
Same here. Someone here didn't like the criticism Hambini gave and is now threatening him with a lawsuit. I'll let you guess which k#&t did.
@@andrewc0128 kunt or kuntbag?
@@FLMKane Both?
How about Look 795 Blade RS for aero bike test?
I want to see this helmet perform in open road... Just curious about the validity of this test..
Didnt Ollie do a video about helmet aero dynamics before he ditched Cycling Weakly and moved up a bunch of notches to GCN? Where is that low-priced helmet for comparison?...it was the most aero and would be nice if it was brought back in order to retain its title as 'fastest/bestest/most-aero...If Ollies video was on another channel, forget what I just wrote :)
Great video.
For the aero bikes you can choose canyon aeroad, s-works venge, cannondale system six.
Ballar would love to see the BMC Timemachine Road
For the aero bikes, I want to see a retro steel bike with aero wheelset... Would be very interesting to see what difference thin vs thick tubes make 👍
From the front the frame would make minimal difference because of rider position being the dominant factor.
In crosswinds drag would be awful. Forget the aero wheels we know they have more drag.
HOWEVER round tubes are incredibly draggy in crosswinds due to simple physics. Big fat stagnation point, lots of flow detachment and turbulence. Drag increases exponentially for a round cross section relative to an aero cross section.
If you'd like I can point you to some easy layman level documentation to understand this stuff
Compare an aerobike to a gravel bike, use same tyres. So Giant Propel vs GT Grade Carbon for example.
Rider position and geometry dominate that test. What WOULD BE interesting is a gravel bike with tt bars
Interesting, but I would have expected more savings. If you do this again, could you pls. test the Abus Gamechanger. For the Aerobike test, pls. consider the Canyon Aeroad. Cheers
In the previous testing on aero bikes they found that the canyon aero was quite average in the testing, but with all the new aerodynamic bikes it’s likely a little under average.
Also wondered why they didn't include an Abus Gamechanger in this test.
charles vandeplassche most likely time, if they had more time I’m sure they would have tested some met, abus, ekoi, and a few more helmets.
Does the visor on the vanquish push it over the evade?
is it so hard to ride a track bike when you go to a velodrome?
Jesse Shotland how the heck?! Are they even allowed to ride road bikes on the hardwood?!
go back to sleep
Nice, just got the Evade II for a steal at a bike show... hopefully we all get through this pandemic quickly as possible and can get out there on our bikes to the fullest! Stay safe everyone!
We will get through this pandemic more quickly if everyone follows the quarantine rules. I don't think going to a bike show qualifies as necessary travel. Stay home and you will stay safe.
Wasupwitdat1 Mofiki the Bike Show was 6 weeks ago, before the reality of everything happened and before lockdowns.
Well after listening the analysis of this video made by Hambini, it is so obvious and ridiculous x) even without it saying that 'velodrome is comparable environment to outdoors' oh my goodness xD
If any cyclist will mention Cycling Weekly to me as a place of his/hers knowledge I'll just leave LOL
I find this video useful, thanks!
Could you please include the "BMC Time Machine Road" in your aero bike test? :)
I think it would be interesting to see how a highly scored entry level road bike frame (ex. Specialized Allez) with upgraded “training specs” (ex. Ultegra groupset and campy zonda wheels) performs compares to a stock super bike (ex. S-Works Tarmac). That’ll probably show the difference between a “training bike” and a “best-you-can-buy race bike” quantitatively.
Considering the met trenta is the most ventilated one, the lightest and made in Italy, well I guess it will be my next helmet.
1) evade 2) ballista 3) ?
Which one will make my swede look least like a front bottom?
Most helmets appear to be optimized for a level helmet position rather than tilted forward that most people ride in.
Nice test... for the aero bike test would like to see the Parlee RZ7 and Orbea Orca Aero
Why Hambini banned? You Rasist?
Tom Dumoulin with Bontrager Balista? When?
Exactly! As far as I can find, Tom has been wearing Giant and Lazer helmets during his entire professional career.
I know its not Specializeds number one aero bike, but I would like you test the S-Works Tarmac Disc SL6
these guys should consult Hambini before publishing any videos
@@Bungle2010 I'd consult him about aerodynamics... Seeing how he's actually qualified and all
Awesome & Thanks :)
Would love to see a Bianchi Oltre XR4 in the aero test, also include rim brakes vs discs please.
How brave. Something comprising a tiny fraction of the overall drag can be easily measured? Why am I skeptical? Wait, the vents are there to improve airflow? What planet does this actually work on? Certainly not earth.
I would like to see you test the Canyon Aeroad, the Trek Madone and the Orbea Orca Aero
Great video! Yoeleo R12, Time Scylon, Look 795, Merida Reacto would be interesting as they're built by companies that make their own bikes & all very good accross a wide price range!
Nobody buys them though so not very relevant unfortunately.
@@mitchellsteindler Maybe with exposures like this review people would start buying one
@@mahiru20ten you'd have to compare them to a known name, like specialized venge. And they'd have to be better than the venge, which seems unlikely.
@@mitchellsteindler Though it might not be better, the price to performance doesn't really disappoint.
Would the results differ if this test were repeated on an outdoor velodrome? The random vortical component of airflow would be better captured in that environment, while still enabling the test to occur at a steady speed and power on a controlled surface.
for the aerobike test I would like to see variation in frame designs, don't just go for the most expensive bikes like madone, venge, system six. Those have all been tested too much and aren't relevent to most people, not to mention the top of the range bikes are beginning to have similar designs.
like the evade a lot, got one even before this test. i feel good now :)
for the aerobikes i would love to see bmc timemachine and trek madone, and have a baseline bike something like cannondale supersix evo
nice test
what about the Abus gamechanger, think it would be better than a lot of those you chose
I agree, but do the test in an aeroposition please!
Please test Cube new Litening C:68X, Felt new AR, Specialized Venge, Rose X-lite. Thank you!
Please include the Wilier Cento 10 Pro on ur aero bike comparo...not that I have one or anything
Cube Litening c68x, Specialized Venge, Canyon Aeroad and Merida Reacto. In every case please choose the Cube, because it was released this year for the first time, there are just the informations from cube itself.
So, the take away is, no company can claim to have the fastest aero helmet!
I would like to see the cheaper options Giant Propel, Canyon Aeroad vs. top range Trek Madone and Sworks Venge.
Would love to see a BMC Timemachine Road in your test
Didn’t the computer guy say that an open vent will allow pressure to pass and is better than a sealed front , yet Michelle said the exact opposite the next helmet where she said closing the helmet front vent will “ obviously make it faster “ ?
So which one was the most aero , when turning your head to checkout the Ladies?.....
Whiskey Wolf
Don’t be sexist, you may get reported to the police though
What happens if the wind is not coming at you from a constant direction at constant speed?
For aero bikes test I would like to see how Canyon Aeroad performs.
If you want real aerodynamic testing , then the German magazine Tour has some and the canyon Aeroad performs well.
Yes, and make sure to run it on the velodrome also.
Cervelo S5 vs Venge Vs Madone SLR => as they supposed to be the best and most aero bikes, this would make an interesting test.
Amazing stuff! Thanks the answer to the question ('what is the best aero-helmet to wear sitting bolt up-right?') that no one is asking has been answered!!!
I'll suggest putting the Bianchi Oltre XR4, Colnago Concept, Ridley Noah Fast, Factor One, Wilier Zero SLR, Look 795 Blade RS, Merida Reacto, Giant Propel, Cube Litening, BH G8, and maybe a Winspace or Yoeleo to the test. And also, put Colnago C64, Giant TCR, or an older Venge Vias as baseline.
Muammar Gibran Would Love to see a BMC Timemachine
Cervelo S3, S5 SWORKS venge please
Nice tests! I would like to see the BMC Timemachine road on the track.
next TEST the Cevelo S5 disc is it really the most aero bike as they claim??
That's literally impossible
Why on earth would you even consider how your helmet performs when looking sideways? I don't time that parameter, but my rides are mostly being done facing forwards. So should anyone who is eager to save those 5W. Just doesn't add much credibility in my book.
Would have been ALOT more interesting testing them with wind from the sides; yaw angle from 0-90 degrees.
It’s so you can go as fast as possible while not looking where you’re going.
5:11 Dr Aerocoach: If it was completely closed all the way round, then any airflow around the front will then separate and then increase the drag.
5:46 Tech writer: You can swap it (lazer) for a fully closed option, which will obviously be the fastest.
...
I would like to see the test with the new FELT AR DISC
Orca Aero + Giant Propel for the bike test
More marketing crap from cycling weekly.
I would love to see how the Specialized Allez sprint perform, against all his carbon brothers ! It would give a much more affordable option !
Watch hambini channel... The bike is the last thing to look for aero... First is your position, clothing, helmet and wheels. Consider that at 30km/h there is a little gap
My friend had an allez sprint, dont get it. It's overpriced unless you get it used, and frankly specialized tends to do weird things with component selection.
Get a pinarello. You might even find one for the same price
I would like to see Orbea orca aero in aero bike test.
5:12 Dr. Xavier Disley "you need to have some venting to it because as the air hits the front of the helmet there is a high pressure area around the front so really you want some kind of vents to allow the air to channel through. If it was completely closed all the way around then any air flow around the front would separate and increase the drag" 5:46 Michelle "Fully closed option which will obviously be the fastest." Me "OK. Sounds legit"
The only non-aero helmet in your testing came in 2nd best? Did you get any angry calls from the losing manufacturers?
Finally...aero tests. Great video...So you're saying my new flanders edition Lazer lid is slower because the lid covers the vents. Well damn!
What about testing some premium brands....Storck, Basso, De Rosa?
Try that Canyon Ultimate on this episode.
Suffice to say, this testing proves why the GIRO Synthe is the best selling helmet of all time. Anyone looking for a different option... and not racing... should take a long look at the META. If you look closely, it's basically a GIRO Synthe and Specialized EVADE II... molded into one design.
Anyone, with or without a degree in aeronautical engineering, can tell you that an ENCLOSED VELODROME will not have air that behaves the same way as it does outdoors.... when you are outdoors, everything you pass interrupts flow... not even close to science.
Please put pinarello f12 as base line bike for the test
Orro Venturi in the bike test please!
I like this, but maybe more obscure helmets like the Scott aero helmet, abuse game changer or the kask utopia would’ve been nice or content for another video
Ridley fast to test aero bikes
Maybe you convince Canyon to come out with their new aero bike already since you're moving onto aero bikes next. Haha We might not be having grand tour debuts this year is corona virus keeps taking all the crowns.
