  • Living on Moana St, I've enjoyed my childhood friends most of them were Samoans. I've loved this treat always going to Sams Store to get it. Yes, other than the pakecake, the Pagipopo (Panipopo) was one roll I'll never forget. Even though I can't make it the way it should taste, my ohana has come close to it.
I hope you enjoy this special treat, even though it's just a roll with a coconut sauce, you'll come to love it. Aloha!
Here is the recipe for the roll-
    1 cup milk
    1 cup water
1 Tbsp or two packet yeast
    2 Tbsp sugar
Heat liquids to warm temp and add in yeast and sugar, let sit till bubbles.
    In another container-
    1/4 cup oil
    2 eggs
    In a small bowl-
    1 stick butter melted
In a standing mixer or large bowl combine-
5 cups flour (you can use bread flour)
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 tsp salt
Mix with dough attachment and mix all ingredients for 6-8 minutes. (By hand mix 20 minutes). Knead on lightly floured board for 2 minutes. And put into same mixing bowl and let rise until doubled in size. About 45-1 hour.
Lightly grease pan with butter, form balls by pinching a handful and tucking the edges in leaving a smooth side when turning the dough over. Lay tucked ends on pan. (You can add the coconut mixture before putting the rolls in the pan.) Let rise 35 minutes. Bake at 350 until golden brown.
    Coconut mix-
    1 can coconut milk
2 can milk (using the same coconut milk can)
    1/2 cup sugar
    1/4 cup cornstarch
Your can use to make cinnamon rolls with this dough too.
