“And then there was that play, that Oedipus thing? Man, I thought I had problems!” - Disney’s Hercules (1997)
That's why I'm here😂
I feel bad for Oedipus. He left his adoptive parents thinking he could escape the prophecy, but he unknowingly fulfilled it.
welcome to Greek fables.
It’s not real
@@Imblack218 and you have never heard the term "sympathetic character" or "suspension of disbelief"? you must be fun when going to watch a movie.
One often meets his fate on the path he takes to avoid it. Therefore, take the path to meet your fate in order to avoid it.
@@Imblack218 Doesn’t mean I can’t have sympathy for a character, does it?
I was in the play "Antigone" and I can tell you Oedipus's family continues to suffer, it doesn't end well for any of them cause the gods only teach cruel lessons
It appears that all Gods or God, from any multi-theistic or monotheistic religions were cruel. Always bent on “teaching” some cruel lesson.
What about Ismene? The poet Mimnermus states she was killed by one of the seven during the siege, but Sophocles has her alive after the events of the siege, since she shows up in _Antigone._
The gods cursed Laius for what he did to Chrysippus. It's seems unfair that his descendants had to continue to pay for his crime.
Jocasta did not age because of the necklace of Harmonia.
In fact that item could be the origin of not only Oedipus misery but of all tragedy that befall the house of Cadmus.Haphaestus cursed it .
Harmonia was the daughter of Aphrodite and Ares and Hephaestus avenge himself by giving that cursed necklace as a wedding present. The fact that it gives the wearer eternal youth caused many to sought it, willingly risking its curse. Harmonia and her husband were turned into snakes and the necklace create havoc wherever it went.
Perfectly embodies what Oogway said in Kung Fu Panda:
'One often meets their destiny on the path they take to avoid it.'
It's kinda sad that Oedipus didn't get to see his adoptive parents.
I know, right? They could’ve helped him.
@@baliyae If only they told him he was adopted
@@milutinstankovic4638 If he would have killed that one witness/servant of his real father, he never would have known anything. 🤔
They did.
👏👏 Well done. Now this is complete Greek Mythology. Now that was awesome complete story ever!
This definitely deserves more views, thank you for making this
I hope you make a video (or rather a series) about the Seven against Thebes and the Epigoni. These two episodes are about two wars waged against Thebas which are consequences of this events and also Diomedes (yeah, the guy who injuried Ares in the Trojan War) has a big role on the second war.
At last I found a video where everything clearly. It was so hard for me to found a accent which I could understand easily or explain the story well.😪
Thank you so much for the video 😊
we're glad you liked our videos. Thanks for your comment 😊
I feel sorry for Oedipus!
After a long time.. i wanna hear this story again...have read about this a few years ago
took my breath away. ive never heard before
This needs more views!!
that's helped me for my homework ☺️❤❤❤❤
thank you so much!💙
Dayum. They did him dirty.
Please bring this to your spanish channel along The Oresteia ❤
The way you have said the story it's absolutely fantastic. When I heard it in the class from the mam that was a little boring, and hard to understand. But your video your speaking, the animation,it makes it the perfect way to understand the play❤
Thanks! 😊
Nice animations dude
All this, as a punishment for Laius' misdeeds. If one reads his legend, this cruel punishment does follow up.
Oedipus went to the oracle to get answers of his origins and the oracle with an intent to make him fulfill the prophecy instead tells him the prophecy. Very shady oracle lol. The oracle is to blame.
Great story of his awosme I love it
A Complex story no doubt 😊
amazing video
❤🤍💙 all your videos mate👍
Great explanation
Ahh so this is where sigmund Freud , developed the oedipus complex from , how interesting 😮

I bet it was an eye opening experience 😏
wow that's very beautiful history The Story of Oedipus (Complete) - Greek Mythology well so much sadly yup with 😮💨😢😭💔company with music classic but....well mm anyway ..i love your video my brother my father.

Yes
You do not want to be over at his house at the holidays. It’s awkward.
The OG MF 😩
Journey to the west day 8
So I work for a brewery called Oedipus, and this is NOT the story I tell them about our name hahaha. Still makes sense though
What a nice daughter. Not abandoning her father
And brother.
This story is the definition of dramatic irony, when the audience knows something that the characters don't.
I’m glad that he was able to get a happy ending in Hades
Wait… Does this mean if Oedipus had told his adoptive parents that he got this prophecy they could have told him that he was adopted??? And then he could have never came to that crossroad??
nah it's meant to happen even if he knew he was adopted
He would have somehow fulfilled the prophecy, you cannot run away from fate😂😂
Ouch my eyes 😭 All Tragedy
Similar to the king Darius story king of Persia he was left in the woods to die and a shepherd saved and raised him. And he became king and freed the jews and god called him a shepherd he was mentioned by Isaiah the prophet over 150 years before his birth.
You mean Cyrus the Great
Like 👍
So Jocasta was Oedipus’ biological mother, fulfilling the prophecy?
Exactly.
@@Daniel-cn5pd Thank you!😀
Here’s the thing: the Oracle actually walked to the King and Queen and field the prophecy.
where can I get the pdf version on the complete story? I need to cite lines for a project I have
the part where he journeys to apollo
Isn’t fate just cruel?
No comment ❤❤❤❤❤
Why isn't this a movie?!
the whole greek mythology could be a netflix series. idk what's stopping them 🤦🏽♀️
Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his
Ignorance is bliss
15:05 if u insist that will be the only title u will carry in your life...The prophecy of Gods...
May such phophecy doesn't exist in real life, how can God despise such a young man in his life.. Every one is God's own child
Dang poor guy
I feel bad for this man 😢
Just like the play hamlet from Shakespeare
Thats it. The sin of the father is the burden to the son. This maybe an example of what a generational curse is.
My god this is so messed up
In real life, the sons of Oedipus and Jocasta would be anormals.
6:43
Greek gods were watching a tragic film up there
Only intervening to make things worse
It really is a messed up story but a lot of them were back then
A tragedy
Thats a twisted execution, especially for a baby.
When karma finally comes around
It does doesn’t sound tragic as daredevils backstory
Great Greek tragedy !!
This mythology tells you of greed, cowardism of man ,wanting more never being satisfied with oneself not gods
The God's are not to blame.
I am here from a short about an animated cartoon where a character asked if anyone knew the story of oedipus and i did not..
The gods and their naughty way of making things fun for them.
Lets end the ritual to cringe over this story
Some of us are just like Oedipus, brought to this world to be miserable and die
Kratos was right
Poor everyone in this story.
Wow...nice channel. Seems like this is a place of "purchased" subs though because having 2 million subs, and only 14k views in 3 days is very telling.
