Out of all Fallout intros across the series, this one is easily the best. Perlman's opening lines set the tone perfectly:
"War. War never changes. The end of the world occurred pretty much as we predicted. Too many humans, not enough space or resources to go around. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones."

The Enclave did that for a reason. The Enclave claimed that the Vault Dwellers were "Resisting" when the Enclave arrived so the Enclave have to kill THREE Vault Dwellers. A lot of people think the Enclave just went in and shot ALL of the vault dwellers for no reason. But that's wrong, the real reason was that the Vault Dwellers were being resisting as the Enclave claims, but it was actually to show the whole vault that the Enclave was not messing around and showed the Vault that the Enclave were in charge. It did work too, remember that the Enclave only killed 3 vault dwellers in the conflict which were unarmed and were waving. But yeah, it is true that the Vault Dwellers were not fighting back and were not resisting yet because they didn't know why the Enclave came to Vault 13. So yeah, the truth was to show who's boss and who's in charge. The Enclave originally came because they needed "Clean" human subjects to help with the Enclave's impure human experiments back on the Oil Rig. Of course, the Enclave didn't want the testing groups to do experiments on their own, so that's why they searched vaults because they had clean human subjects who could help the impure experiments. And of course, you got to understand that, when you need a huge mass of people, you can't just say "Okay guys, we're in charge now, follow us to the Oil Rig because we need your help for our experiments on the impure subjects". The people would most likely riot and rebel against the cause. So that's why the Enclave didn't want to take any chances of a riit which would cause a LOT more people to die. So only 3 were killed to make an example.
So yeah, not as bad as people thought the intro was to be.

I like how when it shows the people in the vault, the music in the background is uplifting and hopeful, like it makes it seem everything will be better.
Then it shows you the true, grim nature of Fallout.
This is why Fallout is my favorite game series.

Back in days when games were 2D, we had 3D rendered mascot(Vaultboy) now when games are 3D(Fallout3~Fallout4) we suddenly returned to 2D mascot.
My guess is when Fallout game was 2D, they wanted to give a sense of realism and depth by rendering more realistic 3D cut-scenes. Now when we have advanced graphics in games, there is little need for those,instead Bethesda opted for "classic" 60s looking animation.

When I first saw the intro, I knew I was in for a good time. Despite preferring 3D Fallouts, 2 was definitely one of my favorites in the series.
You know, when I first played FO3 after all this beforehand, I was curious why they couldn't have made you take a pair of protective eyewear, or face a distorted screen or even a Perception penalty for not doing so when you exit the Vault for the first time, making you wear them for like a few ingame days so your 'eyes can adjust'.
Will Marsden I assume that the vaults lighting was close enough to the ultraviolet spectrum to simulate sunlight, which would allow for quicker acclimation to natural light. This practice actually exists in the real world in nations close to the North Pole, where during periods of extended darkness people are administered regimented 15-20 min exposure to artificial natural light in order to prevent Vitamin D deficiency or other adverse effects of non-exposure.
That's the dawn of the Enclave to you, people. Get in our way, and there will be severe consequences.

It makes no sense why The Enclave wouldn't want to recruit vault dwellers
They round up the vault dwellers and send them to the Oil Rig. They seem to only have killed a few of them as a display of force.
They still think those in the vault were "mutated" by radiation, hence why they would die from the bio-weapon they were creating.

i personally like fallout 3's opening the best. it really captured the atmosphere of fallout, as did the entire game, more than any of the other fallouts.
fallout 3-4 are mundane pieces of shit from a amature studio Bethesda that just so happens to be very wealthy from all of you gullible millennials it's just a simple fact all bethesda can do is pay a fortune making a silly waste of time and call it a story literally keeping up with the kardashians have a more fleshed out character stories 3-4 combind.
Same lewis bethesda has made some doggone good games. they seem to have their own style of RPG that they make, and fallout 3 fit in with the elder scrolls in terms of quality. but i agree that fallout 4 is way way way oversimplified. it has virtually no RPG elements; it's pretty much just a borderlands-style lootfest FPS. i'm hoping bethesda can get their act together for elder scrolls 6, but for now i think obsidian is *much* better at making fallout than bethesda is, and i hope they make the next one.
