Book Tyrion: Ruthless-cold and calculating like Tywin when he has to be (or when he feels he has to), the demon monkey hell bent on vengeance against his own family and people-namely Jaime and Cersei and the people of King's Landing as a whole, the guy who rapes a prostitute and *makes* hear burst into tears from pain, who convinces a young supposed Aegon to invade Westeros on a lark purely to cause chaos and instability . Show Tyrion: Good 'ol Saint Tyrion, with his loving brother who never did a thing to him, who just wants Daenarys to stay away from Westeros and tries on multiple occasions to avoid war and bloodshed and harming his family . . . D&D simply didn't give a fuck about ASOIAF, it's plain as day at this point. They literally saw an opportunity to make a bingeable show for normies/get rich and famous quickly, that's all they cared about.
Kevan getting killed because he's a competent man who might undo Cersie's insanity and stabalize the realm and thus Varys needs him gone for Aegon's arrival is a major suffering from success moment.
This is what I like of GOT, no character is good or evil, each one has different goals and beliefs, because even Ned Stark is an evil man from the perspective of Daenerys and despite of pulling many strings, Varys just wants to put a benevolent King in the throne

The only person that could secure Tommen's and Lannister's rule has got killed in the exact same way like his predecessor. How unfortunate that Kevan was killed by the author. I've already started to admire this underestimated character.

The showrunners always had a resistance to having "good" characters doing bad things. Thus them giving a shortened version of this scene to Qyburn instead of Varys. The Hound is probably the closest we get to a truly gray character in the mold of the books. The rest of the "heroes" were whitewashed to one degree or another.
Especially because we’ve heard next to nothing about Varys for so long, only for him to just pop out and kill the most important person in the seven kingdoms, it would’ve been so cool
Cersei thought she could successfully make Qyburn the new Master of Whispers, but Varys was probably still controlling it all behind the scenes, feeding Qyburn only what he wanted him to know.

I think a really nice small detail is that Kevan goes from thinking about Tywin's death to thinking about crying out for him. He's so panicked at the fact that he's dying he for a moment forgets his brother is dead.
This Kevan Lannister chapter is top 10 in the whole ASOIAF series in my opinion. Talk about a set up, George gives us some incredible background info from Kevin's perspective than ends it with this banger. This is also the last chapter from the series for 10 years running now since we still don't have WOW.

Varys is a pretty cold dude. He’s straight up gloating, making sure that the last thing Kevan hears is how house Lannister is in terrible danger. Varys didn’t need to do any of that for his plan to work he could have killed him and be done with it instead he torments Kevan in his final moments and does so with fake sadness and remorse. Varys is not a good guy in fact he’s pretty vicious.
He's taking revenge. Pycelle is the #1 House Lannister hype boy. Kevan is himself a Lannister too, the most important and competent one right now. And both die the same way Rhaegar's kids were murdered. Their corpses were wrapped in Lannister flags. They were a gruesome "gift" to the new king, Robert. Varys is doing the same, in his own way.
Nah the Lannisters violated and pillaged the people of King Landings. This fits with Varys' character. He wants them that House to burn for their crimes against the small folk. Of course, he primarily wants someone on the throne that cares about them, but revenge shows that Varys is human too.

I do love coming back to these readings, both for how good these parts of the books are, as well as how they show how Dumb and Dumber were so arrogant to believe they could make a compelling story that deviated from the source material so drastically.
I'm glad I clicked on this video after having recently reread ASOIAF because I never would have thought to play this piece of music from Game of Thrones for Kevan Lannister's death in the book. It's a great combination.
How has nobody noticed kevan recreated the deaths of “aegon” and rhaenys. He smashed pycelles head in the same way aegon head was reportedly smashed. Futhermore, for kevan he got his little birds to stab kevan multiples times with daggers same way rhaenys was stabbed multiple times by amory Lorch. So maybe Varys is truly get revenge for the Targaryens
In addition to Cersei, this video made me realize “Light of the Seven” is actually a perfect theme for Varys and Young Griff too. The song fit this scene so perfectly.
Little does Varys know, as Tyrion does, that Aegon may not be so fit to rule.. Varys hasn't spent time with him as Tyrion has, and we see how Aegon acts in the books, especially when playing cyvasse.
@King Edrick Snowbeard Stark I think Aegon will take the throne as a Blackfyre and only when things are going well, his rule would come to a abrupt end by either his own doing, the Greyscale, Daenery's invasion or all the above. This will be all while under Varys' eye and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. Like Robb and Daeron's deaths, kings who start out martially strong but die in their youth.

The Tyrells might even take (f?)Aegon's side, since Mace was a Targ loyalist, and that Margaery now completely hates Cersei, and may very well tell her dad how cersei emprisonned her and tried to have her condemned. Plus, Margaerys wedding hasn"t been consumed, and can be undone by the High Sparrow, who Margaery or Olenna might convince to help them, against Cersei. Margaery might even be a possible suitor for Aegon, on top of Dany and Arianne, since they are of similar age.
I just love how genuinely surprised Kevan is of Vary’s deceit, many saw through Littlefinger eventually. But never Vary’s sure people were suspect of him as anybody should of the master of whispers. Kevan just got flashbanged by the fallout of events 20 years prior and even then Varys was still master of Whispers
Perhaps not, in fact Varys was in the wrong here. He killed Kevan even though he knew Kevan was going to stabilize the realm (which we know varys is deeply in love it apparently). I think vary only said that to justify his murder. Deep down he knows hes wrong, and he knows Aegons rule is gonna have alot more ups and downs
@@KumarAnshs A good hand can only do so much under a bad king. Tommen didn't have the wisdom nor the backbone to do what needs to be done, when times are hard. When Kevan whispers good advice to Tommen, he has 5 other advisers giving him bad. Tommen saw people take his mother away and wanted to stop them, but he did nothing. Robert and Tommen would've had those guards swinging from the Red Keep.
@@wusscake Tommen is only 8 in the books. He was never meant to be king so his mom never told cared to raise him as a king. Joffrey albeit a piece of crap expected to be king one day, and took action (even though they were horrendous and terrible). Tommen plays with Ser Pounce his cat all day in the halls. I am sure he has not even been in a small council meeting.

people argue that Varys DID NOT LIE to Kevan here regarding Aegon, but I think he did. Guys, just because the children here are mute, DOES NOT mean they cant communicate. The mute child who knew about the truth regarding the fact that Theon did not kill the Stark children, the Manderlys were able to teach the mute how to write so he could communicate and tell the truth of what happened. cmon. these little Mute birds, their function is specifically to gather information, so of course they know how to communicate. Varys KNOWS that some of these kids might be working for someone else, so, he LIES here. So that the lie will be spread by the spy children, and people will think its the truth. Varys is the type who would speak falsehoods in an empty room. Always assume that there are ears everywhere.
This part at the epilogue of The Dance With Dragons legit still gives me chills and goosebumps. Fuck Dumb and Dumber for ruining the show and killing off Varys in the most insulting way. Please GRRM! Hurry up and finish A Winds of Winter already!

I think Varys will die getting torn apart from the mob in kings landing, possible reasoning could be literally anything: The Realm kill people for food,money,etc . What better way to die from the people whom he so wanted to protect so much and serve, only to end up dying a useless death. It would be poetic too

Making the mob kill Faegon and Varys and etc. after that Euron can come sweeping in with a cure or with dragons to take over, only to be whooped by the White walkers. Jon and Dany will have a last stand fight in the impassible terrains of the Bloody Gate saving the world. Or in some version of that order.

The Tyrells might even take (f?)Aegon's side, since Mace was a Targ loyalist, and that Margaery now completely hates Cersei, and may very well tell her dad how cersei emprisonned her and tried to have her condemned. Plus, Margaerys wedding hasn"t been consumed, and can be undone by the High Sparrow, who Margaery or Olenna might convince to help them, against Cersei. Margaery might even be a possible suitor for Aegon, on top of Dany and Arianne, since they are of similar age.

@@KumarAnshs A good hand can only do so much under a bad king. Tommen didn't have the wisdom nor the backbone to do what needs to be done, when times are hard. When Kevan whispers good advice to Tommen, he has 5 other advisers giving him bad.
Tommen saw people take his mother away and wanted to stop them, but he did nothing. Robert and Tommen would've had those guards swinging from the Red Keep.
@@wusscake Tommen is only 8 in the books. He was never meant to be king so his mom never told cared to raise him as a king. Joffrey albeit a piece of crap expected to be king one day, and took action (even though they were horrendous and terrible). Tommen plays with Ser Pounce his cat all day in the halls. I am sure he has not even been in a small council meeting.

I think Varys will die getting torn apart from the mob in kings landing, possible reasoning could be literally anything: The Realm kill people for food,money,etc . What better way to die from the people whom he so wanted to protect so much and serve, only to end up dying a useless death. It would be poetic too
