It is what it is man. Our favorite fighters have their time. Unfortunately for Volk, he gambled a little early and it backfired hard. Just grateful we where alive to say we watched this man’s greatness🙏

The downfall of every fighter is when they get ko’d there whole way they fight is different due to being worried of it happening again
Not necessarily, sure its the case with alot ofbfighters like Anthony Joshua. But what about fighters who got knocked out and come back with a vengeance? Like Islam Makachev or Lennox Lewis?
@@gebrehet You don’t recover the same in MMA as you do in boxing man. Y’all gotta stop with these ridiculous comparisons
I dont think this is the case with volk. Dude just got ko'd and went right back out there 3 months later like he's still fighting random top 15ers. Your brain needs time to recover.
Or the unstoppable passage of time just make it so your game plan from your peak will never be the same, like my favorite fighter Lyoto Machida

I don’t think anyone could have talked him out of it. He was PLEADING for another fight right after losing. I mean, really pleading with Dana…. It sounded unhealthy to be sure
Tbh volk himself said that he feels depressed when he's not fighting or training for a fight. It's hard to stop someone who loves the sport so mucj
Butterfly effect from Charles pulling out the fight 😢
yoo it‘s crazy if you think about it.
Genius Statement 🎉
Dude you are spot on, one cut ....
Much like the Timmy Tyzsu fight that just happened I do beleive a fighters team have alot to answer for when they push fighters to go into uncharted waters. Someone should have shut the idea down of a short notice fight against an animal like Islam.
What would I do with a Time Machine? Go back in time and convince Charles to take the fight. Time Machine screws up, im back when Charles is born decades ago. I need to steal him from the favelas and raise him as my own. My existence back then screws up time, charles doesnt want to be a fighter anymore he wants to dance ballet. I have no choice but to learn to love him like my own son.

What was it like four months? Absolute madness.
Just concussion tests like NFL players once they pass the tests it's time to go again when they decide but he came back way too soon
It's a 6-month medical suspension 4 months recovery time and 2 months to prepare for your next fight. But imo, I blame his team they should've talked him into recovering first before rushing back in there.
@@yussufhussein8859bro what? I’m an amateur mma fighter and it’s only 3 months ban between fights if you get knocked out. Sure you get tested and all that in ur physical but it’s really not that huge
@DonDidThatt yea, I know. The concussion tests aren't sh*t lol. Anyone could pass it unless you have actually just been concussed.
Volk out here chasing greatness and taking chances. So many fighters more concerned with building a rep whereas Volk out here tryna prove it. Nothing but thee absolute MOST respect!
This is what you call admirable but definitely not smart. Always be smart for your own sake.
Alot of good it did him in the end.
Now the mystique is gone. Doesnt help that hes in denial of it either.
You're so right, can't say he ducked anyone
There's taking chances and there's being an arrogant fool. He was mad to think he could beat someone like Islam on 11 days notice- and he paid the price for it.
Simple hubris
Crazy to think he came in, took the division from Max, and now his time is waning, and Max is still going just as he was before
Even crazier that Max is only 32
Even crazier that Max is now BMF
Volk's camp let him down. This is what happens when you're surrounded by "yes men." Someone should have said "no, you're not ready, these are elites" = legacy ruined.
Yep and the same thing happening with Tony Ferguson!

I refuse to call a fighter done when they lose 2 or 3 fights. Shit happens it’s the fight game, look at Olivera he lost few fights got cut from the UFC and came back won the title.
I would understand him retiring all the same.
@@YoungJaime What does Islam not being knocked out at 35 have to do with Volkonovski retiring or Olivera being cut from the UFC and coming back to become champion.
Weird way to insert him into the conversation I don’t think Islam not having a KO loss on his record has any relevancy to Volk retiring he already beat Volk.

@@JohnnyVega-cc2rq arman is not better than volkanovski. Islam just lost cause he didn’t stick to the gameplan
I honestly felt like in the first Volk vs Islam fight, Islam had a hard time rehydrating because it was 12 hours rather than the usual 24, and he might have underestimated Volk. Having said that, Araman gave him all he could have handled on short notice.

Nah, everybody is saying he’s past his prime… The reality is, Volk has always kept the same flaws. Fighters study film and pick up on that.

He went for goat status like a baller. He will at worst be remembered as the second best featherweight for a long time. His legacy is just fine

Volk is just aging and loves to fight. He may very well enter the journeyman role after dominating the division for so long and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Bro that head pound on the knee needs to be illegal that is absolutely brutal.
That isn't an intentional technique, or a "move" which fighters train/plan/look for. In fact, that's the only time I've ever seen it. Volk had just been dropped by a kick; Islam's knee just randomly ended up next to his head in the chaos of jumping on top of him.
Volk was half unconscious there - that's not a normal position fighters get stuck in. There's nothing holding his head in place, nothing controlling him; nothing preventing him from moving flat to his back.
He was using his knee to keep Volks body in place.. that's completely viable. People use their legs to manipulate the opponents body all the time.
Cry some more.
Some people might say well it’s not fair cuz he only had 11 days notice and others like myself might say…you are a professional fighter by choice and you know the game so you better be ready at ALL times!!
this isn't how they work. they're always active and working out, but to prepare for this level of competition you have to have a direct camp directed at certain fighters. you need a very long good camp to beat a guy like makachev. volk loses 10/10 times on short notice. that's the fight game at the top of PFP. lower level fighters can easily win on short notice if they are talented and upcoming, because the competition is no where near as stiff. not at this level though.
This sport is unforgiving, but nothing can take away what Volk did during his time. Legend and future hall of famer for sure
Crazy that volk took like one month off after the headkick vs Islam. He was back in a “slow camp” as he called it from December. It’s such a shame he’s my favourite fighter
That comes down to fighters probably being worried to be that guy that refuses fights and takes them out of pride
How quickly they forget
It’s not his downfall really dude just fought the 2 baddest dudes in their division 🤷🏼♂️ he spent up most of his fight spirit on beating max 😂
Taking that fight with no camp is crazy. On such notice at that. How anyone takes on a fight of that caliber with no proper prep time is insane. I know the KO would have happened in a full camp or without it but clearly Volk let how good he did in the first fight go to his head.
Insanity. We thought he was a G for it at the time but hindsight is showing us that it WAS NOT the move. Still an amazing legacy for volk regardless of the losses though. He's in absolutely elite ATG company now
He should've taken his time before coming back with such a fight!
Yeah, he did what a young man would do, but he's 35. Damn it volk.
Exactly what happened with tony ferguson cutting weight twice full camp on different fighter and accepted interim tittle fight early notice that’s why you have to prepare for these fights
Sad. Volk is still my favorite.. His coaches should be ashamed of themselves
This is the sad truth about fighting it’s metal mostly
In the post-fight press conference Volk says he took the fight basically because he was struggling mentally in between fights. He almost starts crying talking about how if he’s not training or not preparing for a fight that he lost it mentally, and so he basically accepted the fight because he believed it would help him mentally and saw the sudden opportunity as “a sign” that he was meant to fight
Yea I remember being so excited when they announced Volkanovski was fighting Makhachev again on short notice but in hindsight I wish they would’ve just let Gamrot fight Makhachev since he was the original backup fighter. I think they wanted to cater to the Abu Dhabi crowd.
Absolutely
That rematch shouldn't have happened, it wasn't smart to take that fight that quick
We are gonna remember this era I feel like the short notice era fighters were taking short notice fights left and right that’s how we got Chris Curtis Sean Strickland Kevin holland so many guys are taking short notice fights it’s actually ridiculous
Respect to Topuria he worked hard for this
It's a shame Volk had to take a fight on 11 days notice just to get paid what he already should have been paid. The ufc's greed is now stealing our favorite fighters health and prime
It's crazy how quickly someone can be done in this sport.
I remember someone saying " Either u retire a GSP or stay long enough to be a Tony Ferguson "
He'll regret it for the rest of his life
Lesson learned don't try to be a tough guy be the smart guy 🧠
The winning effect is definitely real, and when you lose it…. well we can clearly see
Why did you have to add the little sound effect though 💀😂
Was the silliest decision of his career, once you get knocked out too you’re never the same
to be fair, he achieved greatness already. Nobody expects these guys to be immortal anymore. It's just a part of it and being in his mid 30s.
It’s called aging my guy people get older and when your living that good life you don’t really need to try your hardest anymore 💯
Not only that, lack of preparation
Fighters, especially in the UFC, need to be protected from themselves sometimes and they need to learn that it’s okay to say “No.” Volk’s team failed him in this case. Badly
Joe knows that after fighters get slept they are never the same
Let’s not forget the fact that to be great, you have to take risks, just imagine a world where the risks Alex took worked out for him. Wow that would have been amazing, doesn’t take away from anything that he’s accomplished, the man was just thinking legacy
The first GOAT to get slept twice in a row.
Always gonna be new competition always stay humble u never know who’s all out there
I don’t agree with the “downfall” comment he still has his life , his family most important of all and his health. Still one of the GOATs that is currently fighting.
Volk was a good champion, he deserves his flowers. He owned everyone in the division forever now and stepped up to try never turned down a fight that's a champion
Alex should've taken atleast 6months off after that Islam fight. Alex still a beast I believe he can come back ❤️🔥
He had nothing to prove he shouldn't have taken short notice. We all knew how good he was before that. Problem is when you get to that level and stay there for so long you feel you need more. More. More
Very few attain greatness, remain untouchable, and retire gracefully.
Real competitors aren’t afraid to lose
The irony of fight life
At my gym, we called these guys ‘Cracked Eggs.’ They might’ve been the toughest SOB that ever lived, until eventually, one day, they get rocked, and their chins never recover. The human brain is fickle and oftentimes, uncontrollable. Once it learns that simply turning off helps prevent further trauma, it becomes very difficult to unlearn.
i remembered this early time he beat Max. Everyone blame him this or that but now almost everyone admired him as well. This is good.
Sport is brutal in that way. Entirely reliant on performance. You can be the best for 20 years, as soon as you’re not anymore, you’re spare parts.
At least in most sports they’re well paid.
Regardless of the late notice , as an mma fighter , you should always be training !! You should always be ready !! No excuse
If anybody can come back from this, it’s gotta be Volk. Ik he’s old but he can get it done man, especially he gives himself the rest and recovery he really needs. He’s a once in a generation fighter.
You've got to realise Islam too took that fight in 11 days notice. Changing from oliveria to Volk is a big difference.
Just gotta keep getting up those knockouts are tough but they arent the cause of someone likes volks downfall he let those losses get to him never let losses get to you
The best part about fighting is it's not WWE. It's real life you get your 15 minutes and then it's over. No matter how great you are stuff happens and age catches us all.
Man every time I see a post from Volk now I damn near wanna cry because I know he's just smiling for the camera and suffering behind it
That goofy ass sound always gets ma ass 😂😂
Going bald was volks worst decision
That happens when you fight for the money not for legacy.
In my opinion to be in the GOAT debate you should be able to take fights on weeks, days notice not needing to have a full camp every fight
He kept saying.."if there is anyone who can do it, I know it's me"....then afterwards says..."well I had a 10 day camp".... really.....
I’ve noticed that a lot of other Islam fans LOVE to discredit the short notice as if it means little to nothing and has zero effect on the fight and pretend like the result of that fight was 100% Islam figuring out volk and nothing else. These types of “fans” make us all look bad. It makes us look delusional and/or completely ignorant. It also makes Islam fans disliked and will inevitably lead to even more toxicity surrounding future Islam fights. and so that being said, on behalf of Islam fans that actually know and understand MMA: these “fans” do not represent all of us. In fact, some of us are embarrassed by them.
I think Volk just rates a good ol’ scrap and you got to love a guy who just cracks on with it, no excuses.
Fighting the best of the best has its consequences
Father Time knocked on the door twice and he didn’t answer. Now look where that got him.
Pride comes before the fall
This happens alot. Fighters are dominant for a long time and then they lose. After that they're never as dominant. A. Silva, Kamaru Usman, Jose Aldo, Israel Adesanya and A. Volkanovski. Age might play a factor. But that loss does something to them. Maybe it's all mental.
The curse of being a prime athlete
Downfall my ass, he's still in his prime.
That size difference, though almost like weight classes aren't a thing. I can't believe they weighed in at the same.
hes an elite fighter.....he knows how important a training camp is specially against an opponent like that....too bad he chose money..
“Gimme Mayweacher Wooo”
Bad career management, fought the most important fights in a too short period of time
If volk never went into the octagon in 294 then he mightve been double champ now
A man loses to two of the most talented fighters I've seen in 20 years and he is done for
After taking a bad loss it is best to redeem yourself first before going into a very competitive fight. You are also going to have to learn your own mistakes and openings to evolve your defense so that your opponent won’t exploit it again. Potan is did it to Adesanyia and is doing it to others.
It was deserved. Islam beat Volk the first time they fought, but the delusional world of MMA decided that since Volk moved up in weight, that means since the fight was close that automatically Volk should have been given the decision, so he kept his P4P #1 rank even though Islam beat him. So karma set in and Islam rightfully took his #1 P4P rank in the rematch that he already earned but was robbed of after the first fight by knocking Volk out and beating him again.
It's now time for Holloway to rematch him for the 5th time
His coaches failed him.
I’m not even a big volk fan at all, if anything I’m still a bit salty about how he did max 😂 but I feel like people are counting him out waaaay too quick, the dude pushed himself a bit too much let him take some time to recover I’m sure he’ll be back
Shit happens it’s life, Alex is still a beast 🐐
