- Through the Eyes of Love - Performed by trombonist Ryan Haines and the Quarantine Jazz Band, led by Roberto Rabello. This is a tribute to trombonist and former leader of the USAF Airmen of Note, Dave Steinmeyer's brilliant solo on this piece, arranged by Gil Cray
- Hudba
As a former trombonist I have to listen to this fabulous performance at least once a week. So sweet.
😲 Wow!
What a performance all instruments in tune with precise timing especially the trombone soloist!
Well done, never stop performing!
😲 Thanks for Sharing!
Have a Happy New Year!
I’m a fan. I hope I can play this some day.
Ryan, Outstanding job by you and your Quarantine Band. In case you haven't noticed, I have the same last name as Dave. This is Scott Steinmeyer, Dave's nephew. Logged on using my kid, Michael's Google account because I don't have one! Uncle Dave is one of a kind; of course my favorite trombonist! Appreciate the tribute. And I know uncle Dave does. Can you read my mind is fantastic as well.
My trumpet teacher was Ken Smukel ( lead trumpet for the Airmen of Note.) back in High school....looking back such wonder-full times.....Cheers indeed. : )
Mr. Steinmeyer's version of Ice Castles has become an inspiration for many players around the globe... whether you're trombone player or a trumpet one. God bless him!!
Scott, I can’t believe I hadn’t responded to this yet. Thanks for the nice words. I’ve enjoyed some nice text conversations with Dave because of this video. I’ve always admired his playing and he’s been very kind with his comments about this post. All the best to you both.
Your uncle is incredible.
perfection
Wow! You're playing is wonderful! I know this was a tribute to Dave Steinmeyer but in my opinion your playing is even better than his. Your vibrato is more controlled and you play much more in tune than Dave. You have amazing style that makes me want to listen to you all day. As a trombone player myself, I don't know how I didn't find you before. I studied trombone with Keith Brown at Indiana University in the early 80's and played in Dave Baker's jazz band. Thank you for the joy of hearing you play!
Muito lindo.
Ol trombonist. Love what you do. Mad chops
This is the first worthy performance I have seen since I shared the stage with Dave that night at Austin Peay back in 1988 and videotaped the entire joint concert. There is only one level more that you could attain if you are up for the ultimate challenge: PLAY THIS LIVE!

Lovely tune, beautifully arranged and rendered. I listened to and watched this performance before reading the introduction and comments. I thought: "Gee, this arrangement sounds familiar." Well, of course it's one of those magical products of the the talents of the Airmen of Note, Dave Steimeyer and Gil Cray (arrangers don't get enough credit!). Ryan Haines and the Quarantine Jazz Band have truly produced a worthy tribute of a high caliber to those musicians who went before them. But... we want more! When, for example, do we get the wonderful tune that introduced you to Dave Steinmeyer -- "Can you read my mind?"
Kudos for tip of your cap to Dave .. certainly one of my favorite musicians.
I’m so happy CZcams suggested I watch your video. You definitely are a remarkable player.
Nice sound on the horn. Pretty arrangement. Would love to a copy of it to play myself. Very nice Ryan!
CZcams algorithm finally got it right. Thanks Ryan!
I was a pro trombone player for 35 years,, when I could no longer play because of hand and shoulder pain I retired. took up photography and really got into it. Thank God I enjoyed it as much as playing tbone. AnywayI was so glad to find your site. In my 20's I saw Watrous and played many of his solos in concert over the years. He is gone now, but in my mind for so many reasons I won't mention them all , your playing so reminds me of him . I love listening to every song you play in your style. Ryan your silky smooth playing is perfect. Looking forward to your next post. P.S . Dave Steinmeyer must of been your hero growing up like Bill for me. By the way my name is also Bill
Thanks for the kind words. Wanted to let you know that I have a new album on iTunes etc. Here are some clips from each piece. Best to you. czcams.com/video/Mqnb9XmX4UM/video.htmlsi=HvQdxIY_mh0I3RQr
Bill, I should also add that Bill Watrous was definitely one of my primary influences. He, Carl, Fontana, and Frank Rosolino. Of course, Dave’s ballad playing as well. Urbie Green. JJ. Probably many of the same people for you.
It’s like you read my mind. Exactly thanks for getting back to me. I really appreciate it that you took the time.
So well done. Just beautiful. Great blend and balance and tuning. Wonderful. Thank you.
Just great 👍🏻
Marvelous tribute. Exceptional.
Ive just managed to source 2 of your cds after hearing this video, new horizons and people and places, just superb playing I love your big sound and the music is fabulous, its my kind of modern big band cd listening ,reminds me of some of the Dave Stahl cds too another favourite of mine.hoping you are going to release another cd soon .is that a Doug Elliott mouthpiece and a Bach trombone? All the best from the UK
I appreciate the nice words. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and those two CDs. Actually I have two more. The first one I released listed as Ryan Haines To the Sky. The other one I just put out last year. Ryan Haines Big Band Emerald and Sapphire. I went through basics training with Doug Elliott. That’s when he hipped me to his Mouthpieces. I use a 100 rim for my large bore and smallbore. E cup for the large bore, C cup for the small bore.
Thanks for replying,I will now be on a quest to buy those on cd too.I use Doug Elliott XT 102 H*8 on my large bore trombones and same rim XT102 on a D3 cup for big band trombone.Allnthe Best from the UK
Wow, that is great!

Hey man! Great hearing from you and thank you for the nice words! Hope all is well with you and the family.
Amazing
Excelente, superb
Lovely playing Ryan - lush and tasty. Sounded very much like Dave, except he's got the most amazing vibrato in that top octave as well.
Belissimo som....uma Interpretação sensacional....parabens ....que delicia de ouvir.....
Gran sonido.
Beautiful Bone playing
Nice!
Thx.
Very nice
NOW THIS IS MUSICAL GREATNESS‼️‼️🎼🎼🎼🎼 I’m a Songwriter and a Jingle-Writer. I would Love to send u one of my Original songs and or Jingles and have u all Master it!
I actually like the tone and touch of this solo more than Steinmeyer's performances. Trombone, mechanically, is a very unnatural instrument to sing & swing with... so it's really great to hear how effortless and gentle this sounds.
Thanks for the kind words. Wanted to let you know that I have a new album on iTunes etc. Here are some clips from each piece. Best to you. czcams.com/video/Mqnb9XmX4UM/video.htmlsi=HvQdxIY_mh0I3RQr

Eu adoro essa musica, e eu ja tenho a partitura para a trombone, mas eu queria saber onde vocês acharam este arranjo, e si você ia poder me mandar a música para tocar com meus amigos? obrigado!
Ryan, superb recording! I’ve been looking up Gil Cray’s arrangements. Can you tell me where I can buy it?
Sorry for the long delay. You might contact the leader of the band in the video. He transcribed it from the Note recording. Thanks for the nice words btw
Anyway we could get a PDF to the solo part?
His brother is my music teacher
sup darius it’s rob in ur class
Solo by Johnny Sins (just kidding) ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
Wonderful sound and super clean technique. I hate him! Ok I’m just jealous 😌
Great band, terrible song..
Uau! O som do Ryan é incrível, consegue fazer todas as regiões de maneira suave e precisa, muito show 👏👏👏
