- This is a bowl made from wood from my family's home, it's over 400 years old! My dad has asked me to make a peanut bowl for a long time and I found this piece of wood that fit my historic and design criteria perfectly. it's an offcut from a 400 year old beam from our Stuart era house.
the piece has been sanded to 2000 grit and finished with food safe oil, and wood wax on the outside.

Looks like old growth pine. I wish I could find some like this these days.
It is Cabman. Very old, hard, strong, resinous and smells beautiful! Difficult to find now... 😃🪵👍

Love the rich colour in the grain and it's hard to believe the bowl is made from ancient wood.

Hello Harry do you know what the wood is called? The wood has lovely grain and colouring. I did wonder what marvellous thing you was going to turn with this wonderful piece of wood. Thanks Amanda. It is an offcut from a large floor beam in our house. It is approx 300-400 years old, a pitch pine. It's very hard and smells delicious. What did you think of the pub and the after turn filming? 🪵😃👍 x

That seems to be the nature of wood turning or even wood working, in general. There's always a fair amount of waste wood.
@@stuartwise7272Hi Stuart, I waste nothing - I hate waste. The offcuts are used in other projects, unless to small then they are consigned to the kindling pile. The shavings are used for composting, mulching and organic fire lighters ... 🪵😃👍

@@HarrySmithShorts That's really good to hear, Harry. I wasn't have a dig at you, just that there are a lot of scraps left when using wood. My grandfather was a cabinet maker and I always remember his workshop being full of sawdust and shavings. He'd bag them up for people who used to burn them on their open fires. Mind you this was in the 50s and 60s.
