Back in the early 2000s I was at little hole in the wall lunch spot outside Nashville and after getting my food in the cafeteria style line I searched for an empty able in the packed dining room. After wandering around for a minute or two a voice said "sit down right here, son". Low and behold it was Jerry Reid and the other guy sitting with us was Chet Atkins! I was so in awe and shook up I could barely keep my food on my fork. Both were friendly, kind, and gracious. I will NEVER forget that day.
@@JustBenInLA probably about 1999 or 2000. This was at the City Cafe. I also ran into Chet and his wife at Boston Market near there a year or so prior.
The legendary Chet Atkins called Jerry the world's greatest guitarist. He could sing, wrote fine tunes, and was a terrific entertainer: the TOTAL package.
I ain’t sure what it was or how it happened, but a couple months back I watched Smokey and the bandit for the first time. And ever since then, I found myself slowly getting more confident in ole western style, got me a cowboy hat one day and that was it from there. Jerry Reed was an amazing talent...and it is notable that, in this live performance, his bandmate Kenny Penny was equal to the task during the dual guitar solo...an incredible amount of talent in that live band!
Back in 1976 (I think), my brother, another friend, myself were headed to Houston, TX. , and stopped at the Union 76 just before you get to Atlanta (I believe that's where the Best Buy is now).
