Here’s a visualized/geometric version of Spasm you might enjoy - this is from a rhythm game that sort of turns riffs into shapes, and Meshuggah being what they are, their songs turn into really cool shapes :) :

That hidden riff is exactly why I love this song so much! It's like a steady anchor to ground the whole thing, but it's sooo subtle amidst the loud, heavy spasming, it gives a feeling of holding on to a thin thread trying not to be swept away by a violent storm. Absolutely magical!

Meshuggah's rhythms are a bit too wild for my taste, so I always listen for something to latch on and bang to. That said, this 'hidden riff' always stood out to me.

You missed THAT riff/lick in Spasm!? I can name two of the riff you discussed that I missed, but that high dissonent riff together with the heavy chorus riff was the thing that got me hooked on this song when it came out.

Same, that atmospheric lead/lick/wtv is what makes Spasm stand out to me as a less typical sounding Meshuggah song, alongside the whispered vocals. Not sure how anyone could miss it but hey, that's the beauty of music, everyone hears different things!

I love this song-- a gem along with Organic Shadows. But I also love the humility you show. Not at first consciously recognizing the six-beat nature of the phrase and telling us about it is rad, because it shows that even talented musicians like yourself don't always hear everything the first time.

This song was one of the first from Meshuggah that truly struck me when I first started listening to them waaay back. In a sense, rediscovering it through your perspective made me realize that the song actually has the same sonic mindbending quality as "Catch 33", which has been my favorite Meshuggah record, and one of my all time faves for quite some time. Yogev I just wanted to say I’m a drummer and huuuuuuuge Meshuggah nerd and I’ve struggled to play that snare solo in spasm for years. I can play the rest of the song but always get lost at the snare solo, I just can’t count it consistently, as soon as the crash comes in I end up playing some hits too early or late. This visual representation FINALLY unlocked it for me. Thank you so much 👏🏻

I did two dirty videos last year about the Drum patterns on Thordendal album solo "Sol Niger Within". You never thought making a series of videos about this album and all the extraordinary patterns on it by Morgan Agren ?

Amazing as always :) Have You every listen band Confessor ? ( apparently its called technical doom metal ) it's bit different than bands like Meshuggah because tempo it's much slower but in my opinion they do some crazy rhythmic stuff .

Great work! What about some song from Chaosphere? Corridor Of Chameleons, Sane or Elastic would be wonderful. Thank you.

Would be really glad and appreciate it, if you could ever make a breakdown of the beast in "Nostrum" from The Violent Sleep of Reason Album, what an underrated masterpiece, Fredrik's best guitar solo genius, in my opinion, thanks! 🤘🙏

because i naturally hear all these patterns without breaking it down, it's funny and peculiar to me that others don't. I've tapped out many songs to my friends while counting the beats and they say "huh, i've never thought of it like that". HOW THE FUCK DO YOU LIKE THEM SO MUCH BUT YOU CAN'T COUNT IT?! I hear every repeating rhythm and where it is in the measure because it's simple 4/4. idk.people
