I can't wait to hear Gale and what he thinks of the next rendition of the L5P . He is the king of turbo charging and engineering, what a legend !
Wouldn’t it be cool to buy a “Banks” edition Duramax 2500 right off the showroom floor.
you'd never be able to. from what I understand, the banks up-fitted l5p Duramax's going into the LVP's mysteriously lack all the "standard" emissions components required for on highway trucks. Heard it was because EGR and aftertreatment is too high maintenance and inconvenient for the government or something like that.
@@liamfogle8367 it’s pretty simple, poorly maintained broken down civilian vehicles don’t wind up with body counts. Servicing isn’t always a convenience that these vehicles have when things go sideways running on contaminated fuels and getting people out alive.
@@liamfogle8367 so theyre admitting, it dont work. Shocker.
What he’s talking about are the EPA emissions exemption for military vehicles. Imagine being out side the wire and your def tank get punctured and the truck that’s supposed to get you out of dodge is limited to 5 miles an hour because the DEF is gone.
@@chadsteele1 They (assuming you're talking about the government) aren't admitting emissions systems don't work (also assuming you mean in the context of helping improve the environment). They're admitting that emissions systems can be problematic and cause the vehicle to break down at the most inconvenient moment, which wouldn't be good during a mission behind enemy lines. I don't think the military would just call up roadside assistance.
Military: "Hi, we need a tow."
Roadside, speaks with enemy accent: "What's the vehicle description and location?"
Military: *click*
You get more helpful information from Banks in 10 minutes than you could get from everyone who wants to be an amateur in 1 hour.
Thanks Banks! 10 minutes is never enough!
Ok when I was in every military truck sucked (no power). I’m glad some facilitator in the army is actually pushing the power while keeping it maintainable. Thank you
Love it! Thanks so much for continuing my education. Yes, that is selfish. It is unselfish of you to share all this knowledge with the us, the rest of the world. Thank you.
The amount of R&D that goes into this tech is insane.
Good to see Gale back doing the videos 👏👏👍👌
Outrageously cool Diesel educational stuff as always !! Can never get enough!! Great video Mr Banks !! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
DAMN! He left us on a cliffhanger! 😂😂
Very impressive. Thank you for continuing to push the engineering envelope.
Nice intercooler setup, great upgrade !
Gale quote '...boy I can't wait for this...let;s get it on!'
I remember purchasing a Banks intercooler/PROM back in 1997 for my F-350 crew cab long bed. What a package it was. It's the one truck I regret selling to this day
I'm not a diesel guy but I do like my Monster exhaust. Sounds really good and not obnoxiously loud. Just a deep rumble
I've still got my 96. I just wish it had an intercooler like the 97.
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 love the Gale tech videos.. awesome content
mr.banks earned my total respect many years ago.he IS the real deal.
That’s the kind of interesting cool tech information I like on your CZcams channel
The "is that lake still there?" on the Great Salt Lake. Brutal, but true.
And I'm still amazed that there are People, Who have no Idea who Gale Banks, is and what he is capable of doing and across All Platforms! Simply Amazing !
Love to see engineering at its finest
We had similar sit ups to cool engine oil with coolant from the radiator, the problem was occasionally the water pump seal would breakup due to the WP bearing failing and a piece of it would get caught in one of tubes and over the course of time would work its way threw and cause oil in the radiator. Also some engines used water only and the bottom tubes would freeze and leak oil into the cooling system. More than once we'd plug off the affected tube or two and move on. My 2 cents worth.
Mr. Banks and his team are absolutely the best guys for your diesel engine performance.
Advanced thermodynamics spoon fed to the masses in a way anyone can understand. Every great teacher has a good sense of humor.
I served in the U.S Navy 🇺🇸 so thinks for serving our military vehicles🙌 and this is the only channel that does REAL TIME PERFORMANCE RESULTS👨🔧
🤯 I love this man! He is so awesome
Gale Banks is my spirit animal. Wonder if they still make the torque converter for my 01 Ram diesel? Either way cool video as per usual.
Come on Gale. I want to see that Duramax go boom
RIGHT! Let's go! put on your safety squints. Go for 1500hp.
Can a duramax really go boom?
I want to see the heads on the ceiling or the crank on the floor!!!!!!!
Nice work. When is the LM2 Derringer coming out. I have been checking your website since June of 21. Patiently, faithfully waiting on this product. Please please please pleeeeaaase…………… 😎🤞🏽
Gale has been a horsepower hero for me since 1977😂
Gale Banks an ingenious Man in every way! Good job buddy!
Looks a lot like the heat exchanger we use at my work. Steam heats water in what we call a tube bundle like what you have but much bigger than the hot water goes to a plate heat exchanger to heat milk product to pasteurize it.
Love this guy
Let's get back to the duramax videos.. and while we're at it .. whens the duramax crate program dropping
YES!
Got it. I need a intercooler. Thanks for clarifying.
i thought those billets were blocks....all the best gale n crew
Banksssss. More Gale 👌🏻👌🏻
Ever have the supercharger feed the turbo(s) boost for the compounding effect in your "Super Turbo" applications?
I can't wait
Was the inspiration for this cooler the sabre pre cooler , the conical one ?
This is really honest engineering and I love that you show us all. Thanks
I wonder if making tracer lines on the downtube would have a big effect. So the charge air is already cooler before it enters the intercooler.
9:54 "Hey, Gale, we're still rolling!" 😜
The ad at the end cut him off. We've disabled the ad.
@@bankspower "Add lightness." -some racing chap
Friggin epic.
Good to see ya", Gale! What sort of tricks have yo got Eric and the gang up too? Any more details on that diesel crate motor? Those intercoolers look to bomb; I can see where two would be much better than one, as you can balance the car put that way! FR
That's awesome! But we are all waiting for Derringer for LM2 !! No wonder it kept getting postponed.
Agree!
Wish you would come out with a charge air cooler for the L5p street trucks. 20& up
Very nice. Looks to be some Cummins Marine parts in use there.
Sweet
Gale do you prefer air to air or air to water cooler? is the shorter distance with air to water better for boost/back pressure balance?
Grand pappy Gale at it again!!!
That dude is bad ass 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Whatever happened to the killing a duramax series???
Also during the dyno tests it would be cool to see the hp change as he ramps up the charge air cooling in real time. Hopefully that's something he'll show.
The 2024 GMC and Chevy Hd's drop springs 2023, will there be a derringer, cold air intake, tuners, exaust systems etc?
When are we getting the "killing a duramax" series back up and running?
Yeah, how long has it been??
@@drthik1 It's been too long.
I hesitate to ask, but what would I be able to swap into my ‘04 f150 heritage and how much would it cost?
How do you control CAC outlet temp?
What I would give to see similar aftermarket products for the public.
As much as I love the l5p, I really want to see a banks Cummins 6.7 with a full send
The best in the business Banks.
What about printed circuit heat exchangers?
I swear Gale Banks is the Second guy who I came across that are as Smart as they come, the other man is a owner of a Concrete plant here in Richmond, Michigan the Guy is as Smart as they come.
In the Marine Engine world it’s known as a rule of the thumb 1 degree inlet air temperature down is 5 degrees exhaust temperature down
What's happened to the blowing up a duramax series?
This man is insane in the best possible way.
And I really wish he was my real brother!
Can I buy an L5P for retrofit into my 2012 GMC 2500?
There are those who tell you "it can't be done", and there are those who do extraordinary things, and then there's Gale Banks
Will we get it as a drop in?
When will 19-20 Ram 6.7 intercooler come out??????????
I love how the flag on his sleeve is correct!
Wouldn't that be nice if they could sell the mil spec engine to the public.
They already sold it to the Taliban
@@Entertainment_Enterprise gave
5:02, can we normalize saying intercoolers increase oxygen density more than the turbocharger or the blower??
Let's get it awnz
😎👍
Have you made anything for cat engines
I am curious why Banks doesn't make this a dry sump engine. It would greatly increase reliability in the harsh environments these are expected to operate in
This is basically the setup for reactors
👍👍👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
What happened to the 2024 teardown video??... It was up for a little bit
there's already a new version of the JLTV? Jeez
Want to see some love for the LM2. :+ )
does the government abide to the epa laws as us peasants have to? I've heard all government diesels don't have any emissions on them. also the beast is deleted isn't it.
Shell and tube heat exchanger. Much more expensive than plate and frame or wide gap plate and frame.
6:44 What on earth is shoving "in the hundreds of pounds" of boost into an intake?
Actually, that might be a brilliant idea.... If you boost up to "hundreds of pounds" to get the air SUPER hot and run it through a cool intercooler, that will bring it down to "pretty hot" in a very short amount of time. (Thermal transfer is logarithmic compared to time, so greater the delta in temperatures (hot intake air vs cool water core in this case), it will cool off a LOT more for the same amount of exposure time when the air is SUPER HOT and the water core is cool than it would if the air was pretty hot and the water core was cool.) Then, you can run it through an expansion valve (think orifice tube in an A/C system) to bring the pressure down to a normal 10, 30, 70, or whatever is actually going in your engine. The air would cool down a LOT and you'd have SUPER chilled AND boosted air going into your combustion chamber! Like, dang near A/C level chilled!
I wonder if that's what he was getting at when he said "Intercoolers make more power than the turbocharger that creates the boost". He was pretty adamant on that statement.
BTW, I'm still holding out for the last of the "Killing a Duramax" series! You promised, Gale!
Is this a product that's available to the consumer market?
Yes, it will be available in the 2024 Chevy/GMC 3/4 and 1-ton diesel pickups.
What happened to the other 2 series the killing a duramax and the monster truck engine?
Both the Super Turbo (Monster Truck Engine) and the L5P for “Killing a Duramax” on hold for an extended duration while we conduct testing for our military program (Banks Tech) in Dyno Cell # 1 & #2. The moment these projects are completed, we’ll roll both the Super Turbo and the Killing a Duramax back into the dyno cells.
I have been watching you guys use these cores since early 2000s and I have always wanted to ask you if you have the same issues as us in the marine world? Our biggest issue we have is the dissimilar metals and the condensation eating our housings up. This has been ruff for us all the way back to the 6bta diamond series. Over the years Cummins has made some changes with orings and check valves to drain the water when at rest, but still we go through housings like crazy. Cummins won’t sell just the core or the housing it’s a package and it’s expensive and now because we live in a socialist country I just waited 6 months for 1 qsc cooler and Cummins can’t even tell us when or how they will get the other. Do you have the same issues in the dyno cells? Or in any of your projects? Or is it just because of the salt water that we have so many issues? Sorry for the long question but I can tell you this ,if banks can make a replacement aftercooler for qsc Qsb Qsm that doesn’t fail like Cummins oem you will make a million dollars in Florida alone not to mention save hundreds of peoples motors. No exaggeration I rebuilt these engines like you change underwear down here because of it and the people with Qsbs are ,screwed because they have no liners and if I can’t stone hone it in the boat cost gets so crazy we toss them and get Cummins recons.
Galvanic corrosion. Do you use a sacrifical anode, like merchant vessels have ?
Wait you mean the socialists won't let Cummins sell things quickly?
@@Sjanzo
That's exactly what I was going to say. Use a sacrificial anode that is aluminum, magnesium, and zinc. The proper alloy will depend on the alloy of your system. Usually with brass and bronze housings we used zinc anodes, but if your housing is made of aluminum, then you'll have to use some magnesium in the alloy to make sure you still have cathodic protection. If you want to get a decent idea of how this works, you can watch a CZcams video by Grady on his Practical Engineering channel. This stuff has been working for the navy for many years!
@@davidscott5903 i think cathodic protection exists since the use of bronze propellers...
We have the same issue with both Cummins and CAT marine intercoolers here in NZ.
CAT is def the worst one tho. C7 intercooler costs close to $10,000 per C7 engine. Cummins have a better product by far.
Can you Dino a 3.0 L
Ft/Lb Gale... :)
Ssshhhaaoooww.. let's get it on!
This is cool as fuck
How about love for the baby 3.0 was so waiting for the tuner for it… now I feel like it’s been so long it will be forgotten by banks…
3.0 duramax tuner!!!!!!!
Best of all, No emissions junk!
I believe you can ask for it and you shall receive…..
Wonder how hard it’d be to throw one of these duramaxs and Allison transmission in a jeep JK
Whatever happened to the monster truck engine?

Your air to water intercooler is almost as good as the Volvo I have in my boat, where the turnaround end cap is separate on yours it's built into the housing on this 1990s vintage Volvo.
but I will say yours is prettier
No Duramax Engines were harmed.
I just want to be a pion in his Shop and try to act like a sponge when at work.
