    Buy the hose kit with shut off for $20. This allows you to fill the small tank standing vertical. No need to worry about temperatures.
    With the tank on it’s side, it can only fill liquid to half full.
    Put the tank on the scale while filling. If it will not fill to two pounds. Plus the weight of the hose setup on the scale, purge the tank of air/ gas.
    The small tank should be lower in elevation.
    It should only take a couple minutes.
    If you want to be legal, buy the refillable tanks, that have a purge screw.

    I just purchased an adapter like that. After doing research I found the seals will leak because they are not made to refill. They are weak. Soap bubble test them once in a while or get those brass screw on caps with a rubber seal to store until use. I learned to let it all out on this video. The gas that is. I used to drive a mail contractors truck years back that ran on propane. About a half hour before I reached the refill tank I had to open the doors and let the truck tank cool. It was a step van truck. We are talking about winter time here. Yeah froze my ass off. If the sending tank is colder than the receiving tank it would not fill the receiving tank. That is when the sending tank was about half or less full. One major pain in the ass to save a few cents per mile. Anyway the receiving tank needs to be cool as possible and empty as I learned here. Thanks for the video.

    Put the small one in the freezer over night you can fill it on one shot as long as the larger tank is not close to empty. Flame king sells refillable 1lb bottles has a valve you can release the vapor as its filling. Real filling station has a pump that increases the pressure to force it in larger 20lb bottle only has so much pressure in it.

  • @kandykorn6136
    @kandykorn6136 Před rokem +4

    You can reduce the pressure in the large tank by placing it in an ice bath. You can help the one pound tank receive the propane by placing it in your freezer before filling.
    Doing this will help to fill the cylinder more accurately. Remember that you may refill the cylinder ONLY to the 80% level. If you fill it with to much fuel the explosion hazard increases significantly if the cylinder gets too hot...like in the summer when you go camping.

    If you have a pair of electronic headphones for target shooting ear protection, you can use the sound amplification feature on them to help you hear that gas flow process. You might feel a little goofy doing it, but it works 😆 .... and like several others have said, a little longer air purges will make it go much quicker. Don't forget to CHECK the 1 lb bottle is not leaking after refill. Cover with wet thumb the opening, if you hear a faint 'splok' sound, it may be leaking - store only outdoors. Sometimes you can gently and quickly push down the refill valve to eject some propane and seat the valve better or to remove any debris that it's blocking it. Some 20 lbs tanks also have welding spatter inside at the bottom - tilt them at 45 degrees and listen to metal particles sliding inside the tank - these particles can block the tank or bottle valve during the refill. Try finding a 20 lbs tank that doesn't have this spatter - normally it should be removed at the factory before installing the tank valve

    I am sure that you don't need to wait 3 minutes between fills. I have seen it done on CZcams with less than a minute on the tank and when the pressure is released it can be released more than you are doing. I saw a guy doing it for about 4 seconds. I guess you can get a feel for it. I purchased a stand and a filler with a shut off. It is definitely worth doing because the expense of those 1-pound tanks is ridiculous. Thanks for your video. You might try burping it a bit longer and just waiting until you can't hear the gas going in to repeat process. I have a Little Buddy heater for my blind and an Ugly Annealer that needs to use those small tanks. People should make sure they don't leak as well and maybe purchase some brass caps with seals for the tanks they fill. Thanks again for your video it is always good to see a variety of ways people DIY.

    If it takes more than 30 seconds to fill your 1lb cylinder, then you are doing it wrong. If you have to vent the tank while you are doing it, then you are doing it wrong. The only problem you should have is overfilling the cylinder. In that case, you should definitely vent it off until you have only 1lb in the tank.

    Place, those green 1 pounders, in the deep freeze overnight. This, will reduce the atmospheric pressure, of the air inside it ; thereby allowing the liquid propane, to nearly fill it up, to the 0.9 pound limit, of those green pressure vessels. Keep the large 20 pounder, at normal temperature; even slightly warmer ; like leave them in the sunshine for a morning. Easier to fill 'er up....this method.

    Unless you have super-hearing, when you no longer hear propane going from the 20 lb tank to the 1 lb, it is still slowly filling (I've listened with a stethoscope). So if you want to keep putting in 3 oz., taking off the tank & purging it, screwing it on again & putting another 3 oz in, then go for it. Myself, with a full 20 pound tank for the 1st 5 refills I will let it fill for around 9 minutes & upon weighing it will be close to 1 pound (it doesn't need to be absolutely full). The middle 5 refills will take around 15 minutes, & the final refills will take longer as the 20 pounder will become more empty & it will take longer. So there is no need to keep taking the 1 pounder off & on until it is filled unless you enjoy doing that. I don't.
