  • I see that "pick resistant" claim far too often but at least they don't claim pick proof. While I do have several locks I consider pick proof, this is not one of them.
Please do your homework before buying ANY locks.
If you have one in mind, just do a quick internet search and see what people are saying and/or watch my videos. I can also be reached via email for any further questions.
Stay safe out there. Lock it or lose it. Don't be the easy target.

Great video bud! It’s funny I’ve been picking a Brinks (model 662-50091) for the last 4 or 5 days in preparation for a lock challenge. It doesn’t feel like it has any spring tension behind the key either, but it isn’t key retaining and has a spring to pop the shackle. The model 662 is also a 4 pin lock BUT 3 of those pins are spools (future video idea for you), so it’s not a bad lock for about $10 at Wally World. The one you have here also reminds me of a Commando Lock. They too are also with no spring behind the key or shackle and are key retaining. Great video buddy!🤘🏻😎

Great video Big Al! Definitely an oddity, atleast to me, to find a dead shackle and core Brinks! Pretty cool 😎

Nice AL! Yes that is how these are made, I've had 2 of them, they are both key retaining, dead core dead shackle locks. The bitting can make these more difficult one was very easy and the other because of the bitting, not so much and it did feel like there were some sort of spools in mine...

Nice picking Al. I've encountered a few locks that had dead shackles and cores like that, usually of the cheap Chinese variety. Take care my friend.

Definitely is a weird little lock lol, great picking 😊💙. Have the same one and it's also dead core and shackle.

The spring-less core reminds me of the American lock military line, which sometimes specified a direct coupling between the cylinder and the actuator tailpiece. I'm not sure of the details, but from a quick online search it seems that Brinks' parent company, Hampton Products, acquired Commando a few years ago and introduced this 4 pin lookalike version as a low security but physically tough alternative to the main Commando 5-pin lock type.

Thanks for the info. Yes, these laminated steel padlocks are tough in a way but so weak in security.

It looks like a Commando lock especially without the spring

I guess all the "cool kids" aren't subscribing anymore? I think when they designed this lock they thought ether we use a spring for the core & shackle OR we can have a brass key ring that looks pretty and shiny where everyone can see it!

    “4-pin, Pick resistant!!!!

The unsprung core does seem odd. And "alloy shackle" doesn't tell us if it's hardened or not. 4 standard pins doesn't inspire confidence either. You don't get much for that price anymore so maybe it's worth having for low-security purposes.

It is not defective. it is normal. It is supposed to have a dead shackle and dead core

    Crap design and manufacturing. Shame.

Ya I agree. The one upside is ball locking and not spring loaded locking pawls. But that core is a joke.
