    Oh, also, if your air purifier has an ionizer, don’t use that function. It can be dangerous. Also, make sure it’s a HEPA air purifier.

    A good cleaning solution that you can use safely around Birds contains water white vinegar and peppermint oil you can do a lot of cleaning safely around your birds with this solution. For 10 oz of water you use a fourth of a cup of white vinegar and 10 drops of peppermint oil not only does it smell good but the vinegar is a disinfectant and also will stop mold from forming. Also the peppermint oil has a wonderful smell and is safe to use around your birds. Just be sure when you are doing the cleaning that the birds aren't right there breathing odors as you're cleaning because even though it's okay to use around Birds it's better to let the area dry before you allow the birds back there. And thank you for the wonderful video I definitely need to get an air filter did the research says a HEPA air filter is the best and be sure to not use the ionizer because that can harm Bird's lungs. Just wanted to share that info about the cleaner that I use that smells great and cleans lots of things and doesn't harm my birds

    If you have asthma or allergies you should make sure that your vitamin d levels are appropriate before you get a bird. Have your doctor test your D3 levels and if they're not somewhere around 80 to 100 make sure you start supplementing. I currently take 5,000 units per day. Probiotics are also good for all of the bacteria that gets in the air from your birds

    Sorry to go off topic but I need to give bird owners a heads up on something that is probably a freak thing. All the same, one of my birds just had a close call. There was a small piece of metal loop not much bigger than her leg bracelet attached to a bar on her cage (not sure what it was there for) that her leg bracelet got looped to somehow. I just happened to glance at the birds when I noticed one was pressed up against the bars oddly so I inspected and sure enough, she was stuck. I backed off for a moment to think about how I was going to go about releasing her cuz I didn't want to cause panic or injury. I tried to free her from the outside but the metal piece wasn't easy enough to bend and if I pulled on it, it would smash her foot against the bars. After about five minutes I started to worry she was going to hurt herself trying to get loose so I slowly and carefully put a hand towel inside the cage to cover her so she wouldn't panic or anything but she did. She went nuts and released herself and flew out of the cage in the process. She wouldn't stand on her foot for hours. I think she twisted her leg cuz I saw no injuries on her anywhere. It seemed her mate was trying to coax her back into the cage for hours and ended up staying outside it with her which he never does. And they always go back in by themselves. She wouldn't for hours. She seems to be ok now but she's going to the vet tomorrow. It doesn't appear to be broken. And while she's not being her acrobatic self, she is eating okay and climbing around now. My big concern now is they will never ever trust me and I've worked so hard for weeks to gain their trust. They're new to me. I've been following your videos to teach me how to care for them. I've learned a lot but I wasn't prepared for this one.

  • @jmdenison
    @jmdenison Před rokem

    You don't have to worry about your cookware it's good to about 350° to 400° f as long as you don't burn stuff. For a short time I get a homeless woman live with me and I had to get rid of her because she kept on turning on the stove or the oven and walking away. As long as you don't burn stuff you can keep your old cookware but try to get some new stuff too

    And you do realize that if you have cloth upholstery like the chair you are sitting in that tends to attract and trap dust. Leather or PU is a lot better because at least you can wipe it down and get the dust completely off of it. I also try to avoid rugs and you should have a tile floor in your bird room. • @lizziehn5928

      Sometimes safety is up to us bird owners too, not just the harness! It's best to choose times and places with few birds of prey or potential predators (dogs mainly) that could hurt our birds. Keeping an eye out for these guys is key, though often our birds will see them before we do. Gotta stay safe.

      It'll be best to get (at least) 12 straight hours of sleep at night so they're less likely to get into breeding mode! One purifier should be fine if you're in an apartment - just be sure to put it wherever your birdie goes most often. I would personally suggest meeting some conures in person if possible, interacting with some can help you figure out you mesh well with 'em!

    • @MrJdubz100

      @stuckinthelazycorneragain4016 Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Ty! It's great that you're considering getting a bird but as others have said conures (Sun conures especially) are VERY loud birds. I understand you have thought about it but assuming you live with your parents are they also aware of how sun conures are? Sun conures are not considered a great bird if you're living in an apartment unfortunately.
      I would suggest watching videos of sun conures making noise if you haven't already. Birdtricks has a video about her 3 sun conures you should watch! Regarding sleep it doesn't matter exactly when your birds sleep as long as they get 12+ hours each day and that they experience both day and night! Good luck with your bird! Also one air purifier is enough 😊

    Thanks hun, I’m adding this to my shopping list now. I live on the Central Coast CA where temperatures are often over 100 degrees throughout July and August. We run the AC a bit during the day and then like to open up the house all night with fresh air until the morning. I assumed this would be best for our bird, but now I’m not so sure. We have a horse ranch which makes our dust situation insane all year long. This could be a big problem for the birds right? Also, do you know if it is safe to continue shampooing my carpets every month? I’m wondering if I’ll have to nix the cleaning solution and just use water and vinegar. You know I hate to tell you this but I have several friends that own birds I don't know how they do this but the birds are perfectly healthy and they smoke like chimneys. My one friend had an Amazon that lived to age 85 documented and she currently has a 25-year-old macaw she raised from a baby and she also has a 30-year-old African gray. I don't get it but these birds are perfectly healthy and she feeds them junk food and that cheap seed mix from Walmart as for me I vacuum so much with all my birds and I vacuum cleaner has a half a filter I don't think I need an air purifier. I think the dysons are pretty good at purifying the air while you vacuum. They seem to have two or three really good air filters in them

    Hey Elle, what should I do I'm 11 and my mom got me and my sister ( 9 years old) 2 lovebirds because we won in level 1 mental math (I also won level 2 they did not continue it) it was very sudden and a surprise since I didn't do research, right now I'm researching EVERYTHING, also what should I do, the cage rn we have is 'big' even though it's kinda small, it's a table top cage but wider, like wider than me, but I still don't like it, and we don't have much space in our house, I also don't have enough savings to buy them much toys so they usually play around in the curtains and get very dirty, I'm concerned about respiratory infections since it's kinda dusty, any way I can make home made stuff?
    Note : I don't have much access to anything above 2.5 dollars (my savings), I really want them to be healthy.
    Anyways I love youuuu smmmmmmm

    Didn't know about scented candles! Thanks for the info. Can they be used in a separate room enclosed room or should they not be used at all? Received some as gifts but have rarely used them since we also have cats. Do you know if it's the same thing with diffusers (essential oils)?

      They are like $150 if thats too expensive I strongly suggest rehoming your birds to a family that has the resources to take care of them or figuring out how to get the money to be able to take care of them properly. $150 for a pet is nothing.

      @@MrJdubz100 It's not helpful to say "birds are expensive" and "rehome them then". Very rude and off-putting imo. It is an expensive thing. 150 dollars is expensive lmao if it's not to you then you must have quite a nice amount of money. This person never said they weren't going to buy it they said it's expensive. Which it is (especially if you're a teen/kid or not working!). Also they could live in a country where it's more expensive than that, you don't know their circumstances.

My dad bought my 8yr old brother birds some time ago (their birds from petsmart) they’re very uncared for there are only two bird toys in the cage and two wooden rods. The the water is changed every 2 days and the food every 3 days. I explained to my dad that the care was improper and but he’s planning on keeping them like this. Patience, positive reinforcement, and personal space will be your three keys to success!
      Patience - Not everything will go according to plan at first, but that's okay! Birds (especially small prey species) will take time to trust humans. Don't give up!
      Positive reinforcement - Be sure to reward your bird with praise or treats if they make progress! This can include when they're calm, if they come up to you, or if they land on you in a desired location. Millet can work pretty well as a treat, just make sure they don't have much of it in their normal diet.
      Personal space - While you don't want to give up, you WILL want to respect your bird's wishes through it's body language. If it doesn't want to be touched, don't touch it. If it doesn't want to interact, pause on the interaction for a bit. This will help prevent you from getting bitten and your bird from stressing out much further.
      For specific activities, you can try out...
      * Different forms of training (target and/or clicker)
      * Talking or singing to your bird
      * Making food or toys around your bird
      * Offering occasional treats
      * Generally hanging out and carrying on normal life.
      * Get on their level (literally!) by kneeling or sitting on the floor!
      * Move slowly, freeze, or back off when you see your bird getting a bit overwhelmed.
      Best of luck taming your birdie friend!
