- The last broad gauge freight to operate to Mildura departed Melbourne on Fri 04/08/17 before the line was closed for 6 months to allow it to be converted to standard gauge.
The last move was 9103 empty containers to Merbein ( Mildura ) and was powered by BL32-X42-G524. The train is shown on the Sat morning after it's overnight run as it passes Morton Plain shortly before sunrise.
The next view is as it passes the grain silos at Tempey.
The final scenes show it as it passes through Mildura station providing some entertainment for some locals as it slowly passes the disused railway station ( now just a bus terminal ).
The BL/G class are locally built EMD units with turbocharged 645's, basically just an SD40-2, and entered service in the 1980's. The X Class is an ex Victorian Railways unit built in 1970 and runs a gm-emd 16-645 roots blown power plants. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Wait, why is this the last move if this was on the DOWN?
Because it was the last Mildura bound broad gauge freight.
emd645e3c yes I know but wouldn’t it have to come back? You said it was the last move when it was still on the down. Anyway. Good video

Are there any long distance broad gauge routes still in situ in Australia?
Depends what you classify as long distance. Interstate? No. Intrastate however, the longest one would be the Manangatang line. The Sea Lake, Piangil, Warnambool, Bairnsdale, Tocumwal.
Has the line been converted to S.G. ? NSW viewer.
Yea, it's been open now for a little while.
