    The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

    Thank goodness for these Ed Sullivan clips or we'd never have heard from most of these fabulous singers.

    Brava! Great performance! I glad they didn’t use Memorex Tapes to record her high notes….or there would be allot of broken glass…😂!
    Have a great day!

    I’ve always thought Moffo’s background as a violinist and a pianist really influences her interpretation. She approaches singing the way a violinist would handle their strings, and the result is a deeply nuanced, deeply felt interpretation. Each word she utters is so alive with meanings, you can actually feel the unique shape of each phrase line…

    I became a big fan of Ms. Moffo a few years ago when I stumbled upon one of her records in the music library of Hofstra University. I now possess an autograph that she signed at the stage door on April 1st 1962, and I am thankful to now be able to listen to her performance from that night.

    1:51 those staccato notes remond me of the great Lily Pons' cadenza of this waltz

    I made it all the way to the thirty-nine second mark before I downed a full-strength aspirin and moved on to another CZcams channel. I tried, I really did, to listen to those painful high notes.

      Too bad. You missed the part where one of those notes popped the buckle on Ed's belt and his pants fell down to his ankles.

      I'll never understand how someone can grow up in a world where blasting rock or hip hop on their car speakers is commonplace but the moment they hear an unamplified human voice hit a note in head voice they whine that their poor little ears hurt.

  • @Momus2024
    @Momus2024 Před 5 měsíci +13

    perfect example of what the human voice is capable of...though rare.....compare this to the silly stuff you see on all those "talent"...shows with screaming audiences for less than mediocrity

      It’s not necessary to complement someone by disparaging others. Every performer has a valid place.

    • @Momus2024
      @Momus2024 Před 5 měsíci

      no they dont ...the public decides who they want to view who they want to pay for...performing is an art a talent..NOT a woke ideology

    • @andreialexeeff7086
      @andreialexeeff7086 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Have you ever performed in public? Easy to criticize, hard to do. Even more intense on TV. Nobody likes everyone but no need to disparage someone in the middle of a complement.

    • @Momus2024
      @Momus2024 Před 5 měsíci

      lol..i went over this....performing in public does not make you a performer and yes for what it is worth i have performed in public but i would never pass myself off as a performer...now if you are aware of the shows i referenced then you must know that the judges on those shows criticize the performers all the time that is their job...and most are told sorry you do not have what it takes...and if you do not understand that..there is nothing more to say to you...@@andreialexeeff7086

      @@andreialexeeff7086fine. But you should not be singing opera until 16 and that is when the training BEGINS!!!! And I know what you may say “callas and ponselle were singing Santuzza at 16 and Leonora at 17” but we are not in those times anymore. Schooling has changed, now if a 12 year old comes along and sings like Julie Andrews then by all means go ahead. Unless that day comes though, I still say KIDS SHOULD NOT SING QUEEN OF THE NIGHT AT 10!!!!!
