- Today, the Netherlands has two huge man-made lakes - Markermeer and Ijsselmeer - which were created by building a massive dike and water pumping system to keep the ravages of the North Sea from continually inundating the low-lying villages of previous day Holland. In this episode, we enter these lakes by passing through a lock near Amsterdam. It is almost as if the lock is a time-transport. We leave bustling, modern Amsterdam behind and visit Volendam, Monnikendam, Horn and Enkhuizen - all very special towns dripping with charm and history.
We hope you enjoy!

I’m currently docked right next to you at Marstrand. When I saw the American flag I had to figure out who you were. Not a lot of American boats here. I enjoy your channel. Feel free to knock on my hull and say hello. I’m in arcturus. homeport Annapolis
Nice to meet you - thank you for saying ’hello’! Pretty incredible place to visit, hah?
