  • Come join us as we sail the renown islands comprising the Stockholm Archipelago, discovering remote anchorages, bustling harbors, and sensuous saunas. We have selected ten of the most special places to sail to in the ‘skärgärd’, as we show you the wonders of this ‘rocky garden’.
    Be sure to check out our other sailing adventure videos from onboard our Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 ‘Sea Rose’ as we complete our fifth year of sailing throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. We also regularly publish how-to videos on such topics as anchoring, varnishing, engine maintenance and boating safety.
    Lastly, check out our blog site - www.lifefourpointzero.com. We periodically post written stories and pictures of our sailing adventures on our blog.

    Top marks for showing to the world my home waters in such a splendid way. Having sailed here for 50 years , I recognized all the places you showed and it amused me a lot that the sauna at Nämndö, which you enjoyed so much, was actually also used by me and my two sons in early september 23 as we took a few days off, cruising up and down the Skärgården i n our First 40.7. Lovely! Keep sailing😊/Anders

    You’ve got a solid communication and a good division of task between the two of you when you manoeuvre the boat. That’s really nice to see. That’s always a challenge when you sail as a couple. You can sail a whole life in Stockholm archipelago and still have things to discover. My favourite parts are the outer skerries around Kallskär and Norrpada.

      oh, thanks! Yes, it takes work and patience to sail as a couple and still enjoy one another! ;-) We absolutely love sailing the Stockholm archipelago and know that we only scratched the surface. You have some wonderful islands and waterways, that's for sure.

    Thanks for a nice presentation of my old stomping grounds. FYI the entrance to Säck is not that bad. We use to sail in. You can go very close to the rock and the other side is mud. If you take it easy you feel when you touch and it’s time to tack. We sailed in everything up to a 10 M and a 150 square meter skerry cruiser,
    On the left side you can even anchor up with the stern to the rock,
    It takes a while and a few groundings to really learn how to sail the skärgården.
    As I now are on the US I really like the selection and the beauty of the video.

      Thanks so much for the great information in your comment. We were certainly impressed by sailors in Sweden and Finland - the first couple times we zigzagged through rock channels we went so slowly!! Eventually we settled into the place!

    In 1987 Luleå in the far north of Sweden hosted one of the pre-stages for ameticas cup.
    The weather was dpectacular as boats competed in the Luleå archipelago under the midnight sun.

      Kookaburra and New Sweden where later used in the Swedish comedy movie "SOS Sälskapsresan" where the boats are raced in the finale of the movie.

    Sauna is the Finnish name. In Sweden we call it bastu. Short for badstuga, bath cottage/bath house.

    • @LifeFourPointZero
      @LifeFourPointZero  Před měsícem

      Thank you - yes, we should have referred to it as a bastu but instead used the American term for it which is the word from the Finnish language.

    You say the Central Route is narrow and enter Stockholm via Stäket which is the narrowest of them all.
    P.S. noticed i was a bit confused. The central southern and northern routes are actually defined in the archipelago, these are routes into stockholm one enters via Kappelskär and one enters via Sandhamn and one enters via Landsort. These are routes for large vessels and they all merge in Trälhavet outside Oxdjupet (The Ox Deep) and from there enters Stockholm.
    The central route you described is named Strömma Kanal (Strömma Canal) and the route you took i'm not sure it has a name you normally say you sail via Stäket which is the narrowest point and then it's assumed you don't go down Strömma Kanal unless it's specified.
    Stäket had a major battle in 1719 which saved Stockholm from the Russian galley fleet burning it down that's why there was a monument there.

    • @LifeFourPointZero
      @LifeFourPointZero  Před dnem

      Thanks so much for all this helpful clarification! I think we needed to come in via Stäket for some reason. It was certainly narrow but doable as long as we stayed focused! Thanks for watching!

    We ordered standard keel. Shallow keel would be better for Swden voyage.

    • @LifeFourPointZero
      @LifeFourPointZero  Před 7 měsíci +1

      We have the deep keel and are happy with the choice. Although we talked about several shallow areas, there are plenty of deep water passages throughout these islands. This is absolutely an area NOT to be missed!
