  • Just build a 4-door plug-in CTS for less than $85,000 and you'll see sales.
    Cadillac also needs more flamboyant light fixtures to denote the plug-in nature of the vehicle.

    There is exactly one reason why the ELR failed: the Volt. The Volt was roughly half the price of the ELR and is a very good car. The Volt sells VERY well - in most months, it sells better than the Tesla Model S.

    Beauty it’s in the eye of the beholder , I have a 2014 and I wouldn’t change it for anything . With only 3000 units sold it makes it an instant classic in the automotive industry , why go and get a me too car like a Camaro that everyone and their momma has when you can have something that’s unique , luxurious and comfortable the gorgeous sexy lines this vehicle is unmatched by anything else on the road . Again my personal opinion.

      Yarmay Lopez
      The newer Lyric EV is similar to the XT4.
      That will do very well.
      Eventually, your ELR will get so expensive to keep, you’ll ditch it.

      I really want one, just like to speed and not sure it at least pulls like a v6, does it at least feel as fast as a 5cylinder jetta when they made them, they pulled like a V6 when you punch it

    I payed 20 thousand for mine used and it's worth every penny and more . The car in my opinion is very well made just the cabin is worth over 20 thousand but I have to agree 80 thousand was crazy. Great car for us who can't afford a Tesla. And in my opinion the cabin materials surpass even some of Tesla .

      I loved the ELR as I loved the CTS COUPE V.
      But Cadillac was STUPID to focus on a 2 door coupe over an EV SRX.

      salvatore Perna It failed because its priced way too high for what it is. I really hope you didn't pay more than 50k for it.
      And you do not get 92 miles per gallon. MPGe is not an accurate measure. Its total EV miles which is around 34-40 and MPG which is around 30-37

    300 mile range and be able to charge in 8 hours would difficult for many homes. Mathematically speaking an electric car consumes 333 watts per mile. Means you'd need a 100kw (100,000 watt) battery. You'd also need a dedicated 240volt 50amp circuit minimum to charge this. Many homes only have a 100 amp service going to their house. It'd be difficult to sustain a load like this.

    • @kaseykyle7107

      Not really, plug is like a dryer plug, most who would purchase have a dryer plug or have a garage to get some charge and not to mention the paddles for power when used for breaking

    He is correct on some things, I think the price was the issue. But the thing is a used ELR with super low mileage is now 30-40k. Definitely the best bang for your buck that isn't ugly. What I do is buy used, do a 60 month lease term and keep it for 2 years. Rinse and repeat.

    I totally agree with most you have stated here, except for iPhone over android. Some of this comes down to perception and preference there of. Good vid! I'm sharing this. You make several good true points. Took the words.. Thx
    I just had this conversation.. $50k gasoline engine auto is equivalent to a? $100k electric set up. Pay now or pay later.. But it's gonna mean increased expense either way. Going green is a sales pitch. What ever happened to hydrogen engines??

    The real ELR failures ... 1. Over pricing/consumer gouging + 2. Cadillac & Corporate greedy + 3. Unproven/unreliable technology & low range = GM Executives haven't learnt shit.

    So the update on this in case anyone interested. The 2016 model is rare and goes for $50k. 2015 or 2014 goes for $26k. I am actually interested cause its a very interesting car and it's cheap now. You can't beat 90+ miles per gallon. Plus if you drive less than 12O miles per day. You probably will never fire up the range extender unless your an aggressive driver. Ignoring the commentary this is still a great car to keep on the side at $20k.

    So, if it failed, then its Cadillac/GM's failure, not yours (people who bought it). You like it and enjoy it, then its value has been met. Perhaps GM/Cadillac took into account the other options but keep in mind, the Volt platform was already available. I own a volt and I do believe it is a better value, but at the end of the day, enjoy your car. To argue about the ELR back and forth, its a waste of time. Let the car company worry about the that.

    I want one not to be green, but just be cool to have. But 30 mile electric range (best case scenario) on the ELR is pathetic. Why bother.

      @dana4261 Před 8 lety

      Not what I meant by cool. I mean it'd be cool as in a unique experience as I've never driven an electric car, but I'm sure the novelty would wear out quickly in about a week. And that's likely how long it took for people to regret their purchase.

    • @PassportBrosBusinessClass
      @PassportBrosBusinessClass  Před 7 lety

      I disagree. Cadillac's cars are better and more reliable than ever before. My problem is that they are boring.
      They look great and feel great inside, but they just aren't exciting anymore.

    • @peter455sd
      @peter455sd Před 7 lety

      Reliable ? Pre 1981 Cadillacs were indestructible,the only thing capable of destroying the old ones was rust,now depending on the miles you can not even consider buying it so many electronic problems they have,nice try though....
