Considering just recently tesla revealed the model s plaid which foes 0-60 in 1.9s and is probably as dull feeling as a prius while driving normally, this is very true. I just hope that evs can actually become interesting in the coming years once battery capacity starts being less and less of a problem. But even if they don't, at least we still have wonderful cars like the honda beat.
656 cc. How do I know? I own one. Every passenger | driver will be amazed by this car's performance, handling and reliability. I often get asked if it has a motorcycle engine..... no it's 100% a car and technically way ahead of its time. In 1991 it came with air conditioning, electric windows and an mtrec engine. ( multi throttle responsive engine control) It was the first production car offering an airbag option. I can tell this hasn't got one because it has a light on the rev counter if it's fitted..
+PeePee2000 yes, it has disc brakes all round too! Stops confidently and corners as if it's on rails. It can easily be beaten on a sprint but cornering after late braking shrugs off many who want to race it. Appearing tiny encourages many to want to drive as if to force it out of their way.... Every time I drive it I must use its horn as some pull in front and don't see it or I suspect they think it is inferior. I always say if many cars were parked up with their ignition keys on their bonnets (the Beat included) I think it would be one of them with most requests to test. All would be amazed by it! I own two other desirable cars but friends always ask to see my Beat and (easily) persuade me to take it out.... providing it's dry that is! It is well looked after and has the condition and appearance of a car about 2 years old whereas it's 25! Apologies, I know I am biased.
I'm definitely thinking of getting one. I just have fears of something going bad and not being able to get parts. Other than that, is it really that great of a car? I see it a scaled down S2000 lol!
I get 9200-9500 on mine. It's imported so I have no idea what the previous owner in Japan did to it. It's common that the gauges are off a bit though so take that into account.
By far the Funnest low powered car I've ever driven. Forgot to mention that. It'll also get chicks in the states if that's what you're after lol. I'm married but have had many want a ride, and had to decline.
Apparently they go to 11k quite easily. The torque band is quite flat so you do have to use a fair amount of revs; I find I get up to 6-7K fairly regularly.
It has 3 cylinders which complies with Japanese kei class vehicles specifications. Honda don't turbo charge their engines though some kei class manufacturers do. Drive it and you'll realise "it's a world away" and in another league from those you compare it to. Its engine was developed at the same time as the Honda NSXs and some aspects crossed over to it making both very sophisticated yet sorted units. They are both mid engined two seaters too. Both have similarly influenced body parts. One day I'll have a mk 1 NSX........
