Trump did divide but so did Obama. He could have done a lot more than he did to help the middle class and the poor but he decided to serve Wall Street and big money interests instead. In fact the occupy wall street movement were brutalized by police and forced to retreat. Then when Obama left office he took a big payday from wall street for paid speeches. Obama was more centre right and Trump is far right. That's my opinion on the matter.

The united states is divided. It has been done purposely for various reasons. It is used to regulate and control people differently than others. It is done because of logical reasons sometimes, but often to take advantage of the separation. The united states is divided into 50 states and 5 major Territories. It is further divided into 3,143 counties and over 108,000 townships. From my understanding it was done by government officials.
