#WarForRayuba - Hry
The final comic submissions for this season of War For Rayuba have now been submitted, meaning that the tournament is officially over! If you're interested in competing in the future, keep an follow @Orbitaldropkick on Twitter.
Ah Damn. Wish I knew about this sooner this looks like fun. Kinda reminds me of RHG stick fights I watched as a kid.
@@DuBstepAnDa98 Eh round 9 and still gonna happened tho, join anyways
So, this is like Dojo Duels that is hosted by Hyun's Dojo.
@@cubic_skull Round 9 has now closed, just FYI
Anyone know what Annie used for making the comic?
They are about to get some really ambitious stick figure comics submissions as soon as I'm done with this video.
that actually happened in the previous tournament that was also run on that server, the ring of power
our lady of anguish, a stick figure, was one of the contestants
@@SurnameName Honestly, could make for a good tournament elsewhere. Make part of the judging criteria, "most pages, lowest effort". Would certainly be fun.
@@radical_dog But wouldn't people just add a whole bunch of empty pages to their comics in such a contest?
@@dr.eckschwein1062 not if the rule also states that the pages need to still contain drawings that do advance the story of the comic.
I think it would be funny to have a character that is a scientist that wanders around with a morbidly obese woman in a supermarket car that sporadically gives birth to mutated babies that the scientist use to trow at other characters, use as weapons, eat for healing properties, use as bombs, and to feed his cat ._.
"artists are having a war" - - Yeah, I know about tumblr.
Yeah at first I thought he meant the culture war too
i thought this was 4d chess
I thought it was “Artfight”
I thought this was going to be about very bad professional comics vs. underground comic artists.
Yeah I saw this and thought, “who is trying to fix art now?”
"history is written by the victors"
- winston churchill
imho the losers storys should be collected in a "forbidden dark book" 😉
“History is written by the victors”
-A victor
Meanwhile the English monks in their monasteries chronicling their defeats from the Vikings: You sure about that?
History is written by the victors. Except all the times it isn't...
A what if? Book
These types of 'artist wars' happen across the internet, though usually not to this scale, and I've seen some of the craziest most original and inspiring artworks come of it. Fantastic.
Care to share with us some cool stuff you found?
@@FatherTime89 One of my very favorites was a tournament called Law of Talos. A few of the artists animated their rounds and others had full blown comics with their parts, it was really impressive!

to give the short version, YISUN, the paradoxical omnigod, contains all that is, isn't, can, can't, will and won't be. so an alternative timeline where things happened differently is fully possible, because that timeline is part of YISUN and we're just not seeing it right now.

I don't know how Quinns finds out about all these cool things, but I'm glad he's sharing them with us.
Probably people telling him about cool stuff they found and others voting it up
This is genuinely so cool... It's like roleplay, but in a graphic form. I love it.
This was an incredible video! I count myself among the lucky few who were a part of this project's predecessor: The Ring of Power, and both OCTs have allowed me to meet some truly skilled and gracious people. Thank you for making such an expertly presented video to bring some much-deserved attention to all of their incredible efforts!
Eyyy
YOOOOOOOOOO, WHAT THE FVVVCCCFKKHAKDGEJWHSI!!!
I didn't know you were in it! That's awesome dude 👍👍👍
I'm in the tournament and the whole server is going nuts about this video.
Thanks for your video!
There must be countless numbers of people who want to or try to join.
how do the judges ever manage something on this scale with this number of creatives?
@@charlieterry8506 the number of newcomers has indeed exploded since the video.
However, the battles work by rounds and since a new round has already started, new characters cannot be submitted until the next round.
Also the attacking team can only attack up to 25 different tiles per rounds, dispatching up to 25 artists, and with the 25 artists sent to defend there's a base of 50 "combatants" (some special tiles will host bigger battles instead of the normal 1vs1).
This is what the judges go trough in details each rounds. It is capped because of the 25 tiles maximum.
However to not exclude the "non-combatant" artists each rounds will see two zones designed as "Grand Battles" which have "less" impact on the overall contest (but will still be canon.). Here any artists can participate, either by submitting character development comics, fighting NPCs, or making their own collaboration matches with the other team.
Instead of designating a winner like in tile matches based on a comic against another, Grand Battles are judged by team effort.
For example I'm not fighting for a tile during this round, but I'm doing a "3vs4" collab for the Grand Battle.

How do you guys continue to find these unique and inspiring games? It feels like every time I tune into your channel I walk away feeling like I've just caught a glimpse of the most feel-good once-in-a-lifetime event
It's actually a very old concept and used to happen all the time! Look up "Original Character Tournament" and you'll find a whole bunch of those, although most are smaller in scope because most are organized by groups of like... 5-10 people tops.
if 100 people make a once in a lifetime project, then you've got 100 lifetimes worth of projects to enjoy
assuming they all make it within your lifetime and a lifetime is 100 years old
-my annoying scientist brain who has to qualify the variables even if i was just making a fun observation
I did not expect too see you here.
I thought absolutely the same. I watched this video with my mouth open, burning inside, and wanting to be part of this amazing stuff.
Do Nestor Makhno
This reminds me a lot of the Korean Roleplaying Campaigns way back in 2010s. Instead of written roleplaying accounts that were favoured in the western fandoms, Korean fandoms had campaigns done (usually original themed), and instead of writing, artists join and have their characters interact via comics. I found out about it from a korean classmate in art uni who was active within the sphere. It looks like fun!
Reminds me a lot of those old stick man animation where every animator has their own character and they battle each other
I never thought I’d see kill six billion demons on CZcams, let alone on this channel and definitely not about war for Rayuba, I’m glad to see it get the attention it deserves, especially from such a high quality channel as this.

I love the idea of a porcelain sword at 9:30, there are a lot of talented people involved in this, not just in the art itself, but in the character design and writing.
I LOVE Temurin's design, does anyone know where her entries are (if she has any)?
Kill 6 Billion Demons is a masterpiece, by the way, and Abbadon is a genius. The fact that the whole comic is available to read online for free is borderline criminal. One of the best fantasy stories of the last decade even _before_ you consider the breathtaking art.
Seriously it's so fucking good guys. It's A Lot to get into at first but believe me it's well worth it.
Did they serialize it? I remember reading it a couple of years ago.
@@MWAY3000 K6BD started as a webcomic and is still going as a webcomic, though the artist has announced the current arc will be the conclusion and longer than the previous ones. Image Comics does nice large-format 'remastered' print releases for it, one for each arc, but those are lagging a couple of years behind the webcomic.
Fr ? Dude , saw the title and I was like , I gotta fking read it.
Where can you read it?
Original Character Tournaments used to be huge ten to fifteen years ago-there were probably hundreds of different ones run by different judges in a wide variety of worlds and scenarios. It would be amazing to see them rise in popularity again; it was such a magically inspiring time and shaped my childhood a lot.
Abbadon was a huge participant in the OCTs of DeviantArt's heyday and directly inspired him to run this Tournament and the prequel one, The Ring Of Power
I remember spending a lot of time with Electric Ferret over a decade ago probably and having a lot of fun. A couple characters actually made it decently far!
I have dreamed of something like this being a thing
I'm amazed that sites like entervoid is still running, 20 years later almost. 2003-2005 was epic with dumas, james et al. though I grew tired of all the voilence so stuff like j.j was a breath of fresh air.
I loved them!! In so glad other people still think about them lel
8:50 "it's like watching your kid grow up and leave home" YES! YES! This is the exact feeling I get seeing someone else draw my babies. This is why I commission art of my characters before I draw them. Also I'm really really bad at translating my mind's eye to paper so it's a short cut for me to have another more experienced artist transition from text to paper so that I have a reference to draw from. I think my way of doing art only works in this modern age lol. It's almost like I'm having a surrogate parent for the characters.
oh wow don't mind me, just going to yoink that idea.
I remember waaaay back in the day, on the SomethingAwful forums, getting involved in art-only flame wars. It was basically the unrefined, unregulated proto-form of the OCTs that eventually gained popularity on deviantart - a period I missed completely. Great to see there's been a revival
"In pitching a professional artist against Eris' artist, were we the bad guys, after all?"
There are other professional artists competing. War for Rayuba attracts a lot of different folks. Every contestant has a certain chance of going up against a professional.
Yeah, this - there usually is an attempt to make sure that people of similar skill levels get matched up
This sounds like something straight out of an anime and I love it.

It's funny... I wonder how the author feels knowing that, in a certain sense, they are now the finale boss in someone's life story?
Now *that* is a life goal.
I’ll be honest Anni’s comic wasn’t as artistically impressive as their opponent’s. This was pretty clearly won through creativity and exploiting the opponent’s character flaws, not on sheer art quality. Septi’s splash page of Eris dodging Peggy’s lasers is beautifully composed.
This is dope. Thanks for covering it. W4R has been the single most rewarding artistic endeavor I ever embarked on. In four rounds I have made nearly 80 pages.
6:39 oh my GOD this is teleports-behind-you level tryharding, it's beautiful
*_Art Fight is still ongoing now._*
*_And yes, this seems to be a competition about art styles. The best part is that you CAN learn from the others about how they did their work so smoothly and why it beats yours._*
*_At least in those fields, we have fun... Not sure for art contests though._*
Reminds me of animators Dojo duels. Animators create characters and face each other. Animating a fight between their characters with the winner being chosen by both judges and popular vote
too bad duelists don't really affect lore and it's only written by a bunch of unrelated folk and there's no end goal or a turf war, so it kills the whole premise
I remember that as a kid i used to watch a lot those dojo obstacle course collab videos
Hyun’s dojo was the bomb for stickman animation collabs
everybody is talking about how cool this concept is but why is nobody mentioning that this man uses light mode for discord like an absolute animal 4:16

THIS IS INCREDIBLE, WHY ONLY NOW I KNOW OF THIS?
I remember loving these kind of "artist battle tournaments", this one takes it to the max.
This is possibly the coolest thing Ive ever seen.
It's legit hard to keep up with all the art being posted. For sanity reasons it's down to 50 artists per team in the main round. That's still best case 100 comics. It's so much to keep up with when you are also participating.
Other nice things, it isn't a bracket so you can bow out for a round without being excluded later.
Now everyone else, the people not selected in the roll call for the main event, are able to go about in a less structured thing that does have an impact for "Grand battles". They don't need opponents, but you are encouraged to arrange one with the enemy team. IT's very good for lower stakes character building. Turns out it is hard to go "HERE IS CHARACTER ADVANCEMENT" when you have an active fight main round with a bear! Also dealing with the canon situation stuff my last round I asked for my opponent to have a story beat so that it'd be canon regardless of outcome so I can set stuff up later. It's a whole thing.
Sup, sorry for letting koto cut some fun plot scenes involving your waman and furry pals
