Hands on the Titan Dynamics Slinger - Building, crashing, flying and all in between

  • I've spend some time on the Titan Dynamics Slinger lately and with that got my hands on it. We printed it in PLA+ as prefoamed LW-PLA is hard to get here.
In this video I will run through my experiences with which includes building, flying and crashing it a lot. Further we talk about embedding digital FPV (e.g. Walksnail) into it.
    My Thoughts on the Slinger:
The Singer is a nice wing, but too small for the most stuff that could com into mind. It's not about its arodynamics- it's about the weight. Adding a GoPro 11 will turn the thing to be heavy thing. Same goes with a 4s Li-Ion Pack (21700). The weight will not prevent it to fly but increase the risk of damage on landings!
Sadly it seam not to be designed with digital FPV in mind as ventilation is not sufficient to keep a digital fps air unit cool enough. You will have to get creative to fl such stuff!
BUT ... does it need a GoPro?
Not necessarily as it flies good! Sure ... 5k60 and above is nice but then go for a wing with more wingspan to compensate the weight!
I think the best idea is to but something like a RunCam Thumb Pro on it as it offers decent video quality at only 19g of extra weight.
    Do I like it?
So far I do! Don't take my words as negative as It's meant to help you understand what might be possible with this wing and perhaps what not!
If you wand a mid-range wing with 20-30min of flight time and carry a GoPro, then SKIP THE SLINGER!
If you can live with other 4k like cameras and fly a small pack for about 20min then it will be great fun.
Big thanks go out to some people who helped me on this project:

Hi there, 2 pro tips to do before you auto launch inav plane. Well 3 actually. 1-mechanicaly set control throw to designer's recommendations. 2- Set in the pid-section your desired roll and pitch rate. Default Roll is 180/sec which is WAY too slow. Try 360 roll for aerobatic wing. 3 (the important part) - In acro mode, increase or decrease feed forward in roll and pitch untill control throws are 80-90% of what you get in manual mode .This is critical because if the roll/pitch rates and feed forward rates are not set to your model controls then inav by default only uses a small amount of your usable control throws making leveling response very slow leading to lots of failed launch attempts. Happy Flying! :)

Hi, did You try Quail as well ? very good planes, I have/fly both of them. What is the weight of Slinger with all equipment ?

No didn’t try the quail- I found the slinger not to match my needs as it turnes to heavy with a GoPro and vtx. That results in harder landing which make it break pretty easy and almost every time. At least in my usage.
      Currently I’m preparing a Gemini

The Slinger seems to be nice design, but this design needs to have alternative nose sections. First 5-10cm section. While you're not into printing, maybe you could try hand at redesigning a better nose section.
One alternative option could be to mount your FPV camera on the top hatch with a pan servo, and leave the FPV camera hole open. (would likely mean seeing a bit of nose in FPV view, which some pilots don't like) Key is you seem happy flying the Slinger!

There are many things that could be done on the Slinger- alternate Nose sections are present and can be altered. But at the end of the day you buy a design you want to fly, not one to you need to alter and hope it will fly :)
Let's see how happy I am after some more flights, real flight and not short test launches.
