It's so funny how people are still absolutely astouned that Laurie's not American when his life is the epitome of Britishness ever: went to Eton, studied at Cambridge and was a professional rower there in the Oxford-Cambridge rowing race, and best friends with Emma Thompson, Stephen Fry, and Rowan Atkinson. Just shows how amazing an actor he is!

I'm amazed that anyone ever thought that Hugh Laurie was American. I think he's a fantastic actor, but his American accent was pretty ropey. Btw, I'm English and I can't distinguish between American and Canadian half the time!

Hugh Laurie deserves way more attention, recognition and appreciation than he gets. And I don't mean about his work as House. He has interviews about other roles yet they always go back to House. It's insulting! He's incredibly, incredibly, incredibly talented in many different ways! This video is proof of just part of that.

Loved Jeeves (Stephen Fry) and Wooster. It was quirky, funny, and their banter was hysterical.
Also look up a bit of Frey and Laurie- but for gods sake don’t have drink in your mouth, unless you want it coming out your nose. Just the dance and piano bit at every ending is priceless!

I think the duo of him and Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager was one of the best duos in British TV

Hugh is so multi-talented and musically gifted and surprisingly likes rhythm and blues. His ability to speak "American slang" he learned playing House helps him sing it pretty well. He also plays piano and a few other instruments. Very gifted guy!

@@CeeGeeZ Hugh Laurie (along with Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson) was a member of the Cambridge University Footlights Club in the 1980s. Hundreds of now-famous artists started there and still do. I was working in the University at the time - that's how I know he is/was a lovely guy.

And was a Cambridge Blue as a Rower, was training for the olympics when he fell sick and took up comedy while recovering.

Finlay Mathias House (Laurie) has a team of underlings, and in one episode early on they couldn't figure out what was wrong with someone, so they rashly threw out "Lupus!" - which can take several years to diagnose, thinking that was why they couldn't diagnose him. House, just being House, tells them, "It's not Lupus" and, "It's never Lupus". I think that that is just House believing a Lupus diagnosis is his team's way of saying they're too lazy to figure out what it really is, but they really just think it's Lupus because they feel like they've tried everything. Until one day it actually IS Lupus. DUN DUN DUN!
He also did A Bit of Fry and Laurie ..... it's a sketch show from the late 80's :) worth a watch if you liked House :)

It took me a while to get used to Hugh Laurie using an American accent as I'd been a great fan of his since the early 1980s so I'd only seen him in British comedy. The first time I heard him using an American accent I'm pretty sure was when I took my then small son to see Stuart Little and I found it quite offputting at first, I'll admit. I think it took me a few episodes of House before I got really used to it. Still love him - a very intelligent, humble, extremely funny and talented man. If I see something with Mr Laurie in it, I'll always give it a look and haven't been disappointed yet.

his talent is actually hard to wrap ones head around. he’s just so, so phenomenal. he never fails to astound me. what I wouldn’t give to play with him, sing with him, learn from him... he’s not only this amazing musician, but house meant so fucking much to me. it still does. it’s somehow my comfort show (odd choice, I know) but as someone with chronic pain, I can relate to him so deeply at times. I wish I could be angry. I wish I could release these complicated, weighted feelings somehow. I just can’t.

I wish I could offer better advice. I had chronic pain and homeopathy eliminated the pain for me. I got excited and thought: here is a solution for chronic pain. Worked like a charm for me, but not for everyone. Maybe self hypnosis. I am sending you a prayer. I pray all of your pain evaporates. 🌺🌸💜
