    quadrogong@gmail.com www.jjhatcenter.com Panama hats are wove by hand in Ecuador, but are usually not finished,just the straw itself is woven..into an unfinished “body” before it is shipped to America or Ita,y to be blocked and made into a hat. This is a high quality Panama body before it is turned into a hat, the monticristi superfino body.

    I love my Montecristi! It cost a bloody fortune but it is such a superb hat! Should note that even though it's a straw hat, it doesn't breath particularly well simply because the weave is so tight. If you're looking for something for outdoors in the summer, look at the cheaper Cuenca hat. You can also get the latter in any colour, where you'd be hard pressed to find a hat maker that would dirty a Montecristi like that. It's sacrilege to them! Lol

    Definitely an Art. Sad that it like many of the fine hand made things in life, have been or are being lost by cheap counterfeit junk. And so many people think wow I can get a this hat for $35 at store x and little do they know that hat was made by a machine and the fine Monticristi had actually took months for a human to weave... hence the price. Thanks Kevin keep them coming. Education is freedom!

    Hi Kevin, love the videos - I'm a JJ customer, and these are incredibly informative and appreciated! A quick panama hat question: when you store upside down, should one turn the brim up (as with felt hats) or let it keep its shape with the brim turned down? Thanks!

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  Před 5 lety +2

      Upside down and flip the brim back up. Even if u wear the brim flipped down in front. It's best to keep it flipped up

    When a panama says 'made in' whatever country it was made in, does that mean that it was simply blocked and finished in that country, even though it has a burn mark inside

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  Před 5 lety +5

      Yes. All Panama hats are WOVEN in Ecuador, (hence the burn mark) but rarely finished there,
      ..so "made in USA" panamas were MADE/manufactured in USA, but the material was created in Ecuador

  • @JefferyHunt
    @JefferyHunt Před 5 lety +2

    Will your guy do one of these or would you send that out to a particular hat maker to block it, shape it, etc.,?

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  Před 5 lety +3

      Generally we block it in house,in our own workshop, yes.

  • @jaybruz.5688
    @jaybruz.5688 Před 3 lety +1

    can you do a video of one being blocked? when you make it back into the shop that is.

  • @jennifers6435

    How do you clean it?..we used to attach a disposable band inside the hats I used to sell

    • @quadrogong1111
      @quadrogong1111  Před 3 lety

      That's right, prevention is key. U don't clean it.
      Use the pad for $5 and save thousands later on. There are places using caustic chemicals to clean sweat stains from hats, but I don't know of any.. I'd suggest using the disposable pad, my hats have lasted decades and still look new.. because of them
