The Melodifestivalen pre selection has been going on since 1959. The viewers have been able to cast their vote in the Melodifestivalen in 1962, 1993 and since 1997. 1959 to 2002 it was just a single Final night, but since 2002 it've been four Semi Finals and a Final night.

Lmao when The Ark and 'The worrying kind' started playing at the look on your faces hahaha. By no means a favorite of mine, neither then or now. But must admit, after hearing it on Radio and other events many times, the song grows on you actually, real catchy hook. Just don't look at their performence, it only distracts or/and cringes you out. Only listen to the melody, and it's an ok tune actually!
Btw, Kikki Danielsson 'Bra Vibrationer ' is 1 half of Chips in the year 82. She does mainly country music btw and is an honour citizien of Nashville, where she did record her album 'Midnight Sunshine' in the mid 80's, if my memory doesn't fail me. Many artist does Mello (short pronanciation for Melodifestivalen) several times, some do better, some do worse, but still come around again a few years later. And they often still suck or at least their song do. But got to give it to them for never giving up, anyway!Like Alcazar, I think they have competed 3 times, all hardcore discobangers/ discobeats, that are still populare today. Please react to theirs 'Stay the nigt ' and/or 'Blame it on the Disco', if you havent already. Also Wictoria, great singer (1 of the best voices in Sweden), who's been competing in Mello at least 3 times! If you haven't reacted to her, please do react to 'Save me' from the Mello contest in 2016, my personal favourite by her, but all her entrys are great! And regarding the 2005 entry for Sweden, Martin Stenmarck. He is really a great singer and has been playing and singing in roles in several musicals here in Sweden, for exemple in 'West Side story' & 'Jesus Christ Superstar' etc. He has compeeted in Mello 4 times, last time as late as in 2019! Don't know why he won in 2005 and got to represente Sweden with that piece of sh*t-song 'Las Vegas' ! Take care,(especially in these crazy times and this f@cked up World we live in) of eachother and everyone you love and cherrish ...👍🤗🇸🇪

But that pop is the swedish identity. Do you have any idea how big influence Sweden has on the modern pop music? Cheiron studios, Denniz Pop, Max Martin and many more has influenced modern pop to a very high degree! It is international pop artists that sounds swedish, not the other way around. Look at how many of the other countries songs that are written (entirely or partly) by swedes in the last 20 years of ESC. I'll say it again, it is modern pop that sounds swedish, not swedish pop that sound international.

Malena Ernman, not a great entry in Eurovision, or Mello, according to me at least. Great voice and so on of course, but I'm more a sucker for the one's with catchy hooks, or at least a tune you can sing along to, catchy or not! At least a song where you can hear the words get sung, even if it's in a language I don't know at all! On a personal level, I don't appriciate Opera at all, maybe 1 or 2 tunes in Carmen only, I think are beautiful, thats it! I do have problem hearing what they sing at all, even though this was in French and I do speak ,read and understand French fluently, though I'm from Sweden. It doesn't matter to me what language Opera is sung in, even if it's an Opera in 1 of the 3 languages I control, English, French or Swedish, it all sounds like Greek me and my ears! But like we say here, taste in music is like a butt, it's divided, everyone has diffrent taste in everything! But I do have respect for the singers craft and realize that singing like that takes a lot of hard work and training with her voice. But for Melodifestivalen or Eurovision Song Contest= a big No, Nej, Non, Nein! 0 points from me. And I think Europe agreed with me, since it came fourth from the last place, 21 of 25 contestents!

Until 1965 there was no formal language rule, they just assumed that everybody would sing in their own language. When Sweden sang in English in 1965, the language rule was in stated for 1966 onwards.

The turning point for Sweden was around 2011 sad enough, before we had sent the same type of songs year after year and when we tried something different it always failed in ESC. But when Anna did not Qualify in 2010, Sweden started to take ESC more serious than before. We knew we were good at pop music so why not focus more on that...and voila there you have the Sweden we all love to hate hahaha

Ted Gärdestad. The one who sang Satellit in 79 unfortunately suffered from depression and because he didn't get the help he needed he took his life by throwing himself before a train and we lost one of the best musicians ever.

Sweden has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 59 times since making its debut in 1958, missing only three contests since then (1964, 1970 and 1976). Sweden is one of the most successful competing nations at the Eurovision Song Contest, with a total of six victories, second only to Ireland's seven wins, and has the most top five results of the 21st century, with 11. In total, Sweden has achieved 25 top five results in the contest.Together with Croatia and Malta, Sweden was one of only three countries never to have been relegated under the pre 2004 rules of the contest. Sweden was also the first country to win 3 semifinals. In recent years Swedish songwriters have been involved in the writing entirely or partly of entries from several countries apart from Sweden. They have again good results.

I am swedish and can translate diggi-loo diggi-ley:
    Lightning and thunder, magical wonders
    Suddenly one day it happened
Oh, what luck (You are a lucky figure)
A day in the city (You went there and thought)
On the esplanade (Then you saw something that shone)
It felt like I had wings
    Oh, what a wonderful dream
    Diggi-loo diggi-ley, everyone's looking at me
Where I walk in my golden shoes
    I danced around the street
And the whole world it smiled
Diggi-loo diggi-ley, the sky opened up
You can hardly believe your eyes
Oh, I'm almost starting to soar
    In my golden shoes
    I have visions for millions
Golden dojos for you and happiness is done
(Say more, we believe in your word)
Imagine an obstacle (You fly over it)
Wings on the shoes (Is all you need)
Oh, I can be whatever I want
    In my enchanted world
    Diggi-loo diggi-ley, everyone's looking at me
Where I walk in my golden shoes
    I danced around the street
And the whole world it smiled
Diggi-loo diggi-ley, the sky opened up
You can hardly believe your eyes
Oh, I'm almost starting to soar
    In my golden shoes
It was a dream come true but I have to admit
That when I woke up I woke up with joy
Me, a singer and a dancer
    Oh… oh…
Diggi-loo diggi-ley, the sky opened up
You can hardly believe your eyes
    Oh, I wanted to wish
    Ate all the golden shoes
    Oh, I wanted to wish
    Ate all the golden shoes

But then they change so now it starts now in like february and they have evry Saturday leading up to the final. So there are two ever Saturday going directly to the final. FUN FACT 1: about Christer Björkman:
Since 2002, he has been a producer of Melodifestivalen, and remained an important figure in Melodifestivalen and the Eurovision Song Contest where he has acted as the "Schlager President". He will step down from his position after the current Melodifestivalen 2021, which is not on tour due to Covid-19 and is held at Annexet, a roughly 3500 capacity venue in the Globen Arena.
FUN FACT 2: The first out of six Melodifestivalen competition for 2021 was aired on Saturday February 6, Arvingarna won one of the two finalist spots which will be held on the sixth and final show on Saturday March 13.
To learn more about Christer Björkman via an interview held by the Head Production Manager Ola Melzig, (Yes... Roughly 50-70% of the production managers, lights- and sound technicians, stage managers, studio man and other important positions during every Eurovision Song Contest are Swedes. What I think most (if not all) ESC-fans fail to note when it comes to Måns winning in 2015 is that they fail to note the importance of his charm and good looks. No, the song maybe isn't a winner. But combine it with the staging (which was amazing) and Måns charm and ability to connect to the TV-audience and it definately was a winner! He is fantastic at working the camera! The song might not be a winner but he is and the staging was.

So I can understand the criticism that Sweden contributes in Eurovision only with commercial pop music, but that´s what we do and are famous for. We have folk music and other more national smaller genres but that is not what we listen to or who we are.

When you unveil the results, I would love to hear the top 3 from each country. I'm just so curious to see what people voted for in general!
Also, if you're as hot for Robin Bengtsson's performance as the rest of us, you really should check out the semi-final version from Melodifestivalen. They had a slow-panning crotch shot of one of the dancers. It was legit so hot that they had to scrap it for the national final and for Eurovision. It was nothing short of glorious. czcams.com/video/bjd6ll3RP6s/video.html (1:50) (that's also the original nsfw lyrics, where they're saying the f-word instead of freaking).

My favourite is the herreys diggy loo. The song everyone hates to love. But its just such a happy song it always picks my mood up They were so much more than just that song. They wrote some cracking songs. I like you written by per the one in red when he was 18.they are just so wholesome and those brothers are lovely human beings

Melodifestivalen lasts 6 weeks, 4 qualifications, 1 second chance, 1 final. The whole Melodifestivalen changed around 2011, we got in an international jury which is eventually combined with the voting of the Swedish people. The voting also changed according to the actual percentage of the votes you received (this system is AWESOME!) rather than an already set point system. (Which many times years before meant that the "winning" song got several more points ( just enough to take the win) even though the votes were just less than a % difference. Meaning if we had this system earlier - we would had sent other songs, too bad we didn't have it sooner tbh cause there are some great songs at the nr 2 spot, many I still feel should have won ( exp. Nanne Grönvall - håll om mig, check it up!) ). We also have the free "heart" voting, which means you can give 5 free votes to all songs whilst they are playing, voting at other times you have call. This was first in 2015, but the app crashed during the finals and was discarded dung the finals, since then it has been used every year. But this also makes the voting VERY close.
My absolute favorite Swedish / Eurovision song of all time is: Euphoria (first time I saw and heard it.. it was out of this world, magical!)

oh man the late seventies were rancid for them. And then the mid-80s. I forgot all about it until the recent ones. But damn, there's times where a country has one, maybe two iconic songs, but Sweden has at least three with ABBA, Loreen, and I would add John Lundvik to that. But i HAVE to give my vote to Loreen. No questions.

2004...the year that made it clear, you cannot directlz translate songs from swedish to english and yet they did. This english version, is not the song that one the swedish tryouts. Im not saying its better, but its slighlty less cringe in swedish as we dont use the word "hurt" or "ont" in swedish as a euphanism for sexual pleassure.
Edit: Thanks to the english translation that changed though.

Many of these songs were huge in Sweden of course.
12:40 I like this song but it's not his best. He has a sad story to it, he was gay and committed suicide. You wont understand the lyrics but his Sol, Vind och Vatten is his best and has a happy line in the lyrics that turned ironic and sad because of what happened to him in the end. You should react to it if you find it with English lyrics.

Oh god, Euphoria again... This endless hype around it just blows my mind in a bad way. Ok, the song is good, the production is perfect but how the hell is this song still so popular? Literally, so many eurofans still think that it is like the best song of the Eurovision history or something like that. Just how? A dance pop song that literally contains lines "forever and ever together", "euphoria forever till the end of time", "only you and I"... come on... Sorry, can't understand the magic. And the fact, that I have accidentally heard it so many times in so many different places where I have never imagined I could hear it, makes things even worse, I just got tired of this song. When I hear something a million times I start to hate it, I can't help myself

That is also a cultural thing. Swedish songs do not put as much weight on the message of the lyrics, it instead uses the singing voice more like a melodic instrument.
