- Short-lived but well loved, "Angie" ran on ABC from 1979-1980 as a vehicle for Donna Pescow. The catchy theme song was performed by the legendary Maureen McGovern, which was released as a single. This video features the openings from Seasons 1 and 2, the closing theme, plus the full album version by McGovern.

One of the best theme songs for a TV show in the history of Hollywood !!!!!!!! The kind of song you would love to hear on the radio on an everyday basis. Even in 2024. The song never gets old.
Adrissi Brothers "Nanny and the Professor" may be another you may like.
I own a streaming station called Smooth 70s. It's on iHeart radio app...we play this a lot
I was young, but I actually remember hearing this on the radio. What lovely memories!
@@ModSquads Also check out the theme to BLANSKYS BEAUTIES !! I LOVE the Nanny and the Professor theme . It makes me CRY.
Back when music was beautiful
Brilliant song. Composed by the great Charles Fox
In 1979, ANGIE made the top 10 of the Nielsen Ratings. That gave composer Charles Fox four themes in the top 10 simultaneously-- including Love Boat, Happy Days & Laverne & Shirley-- which sat at 1-2-3 many weeks over several years.
Mr. Fox just got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame a couple months ago. He also wrote the iconic song "Girl" by Davy Jones, that all Brady Bunch fans know.
Um, you're forgetting is crowing jewel: Killing Me Softly With His Song that was on the charts - THREE times by 3 different singers! The song was originally presented to ..Helen Reddy who was all "Killing....I don't like a song to have the word killing in it". Fox also wrote Love American Style, Wonder Woman and the cheesy but slightly psychedelic theme to the wonderfully bad "Green Slime" in 1968,
@@MajorSeventh I really love that song and it's not on any record.
Also-- with lyrics by Norman Gimbel-- Fox wrote the Jim Croce classic "I Got A Name" & the Barry Manilow Oscar nominated song "Ready To Take A Chance Again"-- as well as the original "Wide World Of Sports" theme... Yes, a lot of good stuff! Including a tremendous amount of Latin music that he's currently performing live-- in Cuba, LA, Paris and this week in New York City. There is a really cool recent documentary about him and his music that you can rent called "Killing Me Softly With His Songs".
One of the only "comforts" of my freshman year of high school was hearing this song.

I was also in high school when this song was new. My other TV comfort song was the end theme to WKRP in Cincinnati .
Robert Hays was handsome and Doris Roberts is incredible at whatever she is in. Something about her that is so likable. Love the theme song!
RIP Debralee Scott
I miss simpler times. How fortunate to have known them. Thank you for posting. 🎼 ❤ Love it seeks ... Love it finds. 🎶
Everyone is saying the same thing. March 2020 destroyed our lives and our spirits.
Thanks for posting! I was 13 when this show and song came out and I loved both. Different Worlds has amazing lyrics, and especially important in these divided days and times. That song by Maureen McGovern got me interested in the top 40 charts as I watched it rise up to #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 that fall. Was so thrilled years later to be able to interview Maureen (phone call to her home in LA) years later for Baltimore Songwriter. She was so gracious to grant me those 20 minutes. A real class act!
I forgot all about this show! I was only six years old then, but I loved the theme song!
Glad I could bring back those memories!
I was only 3 when this song came out. I heard it tonight for the first time, in I swear 40 years!
@@jaydee975I was 3 when this song came out and Angie aired. Loved them both!!
25th wow I was 19 when this started.... loved watching it..... I live in Philly...have all my life - the skyline has changed A LOT!~
..happy days in Santiago de Chile..show TV memories forever ❤ 🇨🇱
This was an upbeat and family-friendly show, short lived but enjoyable just the same. Thanks for posting!
It never got a chance develop fully.
And that's sad. It deserved better. Laverne and Shirley went in WAY too long. This show deserved a few more seasons
I think the love between the 2 main characters was developed too fast. Usually, in stories that producers want to last, like mork and mindy, the office, etc., it takes up to many seasons for love to develop. Producers could have added many obstacles for the final romance to flourish way down the road. Once you have the main love story consolidated, building up on top of that is challenging, as viewers lose expectations and family-type routine kicks in. In other words, it is another story.
Nothing can touch 70s TV theme songs. Nothing.
Absolutely correct. One that evades me was the theme on a show called "Doc".
Please share with me if you can find it. Thx very much.
One of my all time favorites was the theme to Nanny and the Professor.
2:02 The turkey in the lap gag, don't _nevah_ get old!!!🤣
I think I like the ALBUM version the best. This is one of my FAVORITE theme songs and if people did NOT know; the guys that wrote it - also wrote the themes to Wonder Woman , Love American Style, Laverne and Shirley and ..... the hit single Killing Me Softly with His Song !! (That alone made them REALLY rich- it was a Hit 3 different times over the years !). I think they also did one of my other favorite songs to a bomb TV show: the theme to Blansky's Beauties w/ Nancy Walker (1977) . Look it up on here , it's sound a little bit like Different Worlds.
Did not know that info. Thanks for sharing. I like the album version the best too. It’s a great pop song. Cheers ✌️
This was definitely the golden era of TV theme songs in my opinion. So many of them were memorable.
Great theme song.❤️❤️
A great couple and cast.
How true, my friend - I've been a fan of this show since the series debut, and I'm still a fan; the series debuted in early 1979, and I was a teenager at the time (sixteen years of age, to be exact), and I didn't have that many friends in high school, so I had television - as a result, Angie and her friends became my friends. I still cherish them to this day.
@@MegaJustGeorge What you shared is so true for oh so many people. Great tv shows touched you and sometimes gave you laughs to help hide the tears. The characters seemed like real people you wish you knew. They lived in places you wished you could visit or live there.
Latch-key kids, 📺 and Capt.Crunch
You had to be there. We were all there. Strange time to be an American child.
@@zacharyzapata8559 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Loved this song and show.
Can you read my mind, Superman. Another great song.
and her other movie themes.
I like the "disco" version the best.
It also ran on ABC Daytime after it was cancelled.
Summer of 1985
@@bartkasper4172 No, earlier than that . I'd say 1980 / 81 ?
@@LannieLord Nope - I was a junior in college in summer school - was on at 10 am Central.
Good Quality ❤wow
Never watched it, I think it stopped airing a few months before I was born in November of ‘80. Like the song. Wasn’t aware the show was set in Philly, that’s cool and has some big names in this show as well
I agree. I also forgot about the show recently heard this song on 70s or 80s on Sirius radio!!
I like the first version of the TV theme best. The rhythm guitar is better than the disco beat on the album version.
Thanks for sharing.
Wonder if Robert Hays was casted as a pilot in this one as well lol
Anybody remember what happened to Tammy Lauren's character? We were the same age, so I always wondered.
R.I.P.: Doris Roberts
I will never forget her Tofu Turkey on Everybody Loves Raymond.
I remember this show it was like the Italian version of Rhoda
Philly is so different now
A lot of cities are different now😢
song was better than the show
I agree
Agree ! Great time period - Disco Days , Grease songs etc. @@TheCloggingRepublican
"ANGIE" was the "Dhama & Greg " of its time (aka Chuck Lorre's OTHER hit sitcom, before the Iconic "Two & A half Men")
The show was funny and cute. Very innocent.
I watched every episode. It was witty and tender funny
Philadelphia!!!
I loved Debra
Lee Scott
Wasn’t she the thot in Saturday Night Fever 😂
Yes, Annette. She had a huge crush on Tony (John Travolta). Annette cigarette? Lol! 🤣
Underdogs!!!!
I like the first one better
2nd grade when I was this much older. Sorry girls. Mr. And Mrs. N_____.
Wow Robert was the only male cast member.
Good point.
The album version is over produced. The TV version sounds better and not so urgent lol
